If you are considering a new sink within your kitchen or bathroom, a copper sink may be the way for you to go. Many people are choosing copper sinks over other traditional styles such as porcelain. The reason the popularity of copper sinks has grown so drastically is because not only does it have a simplistic beauty unmatched by any other style, it is also extremely functional within the kitchen.

comparison. Thanks to the antibacterial benefits of copper, a bacterium that is found on the copper will not live any longer than one to two hours.

The great thing about copper sinks is that they are virtually maintenance free, if it

needs cleaned water and soap will do the trick. Chemical cleaners are a thing of the past when it comes to copper sinks, they do not require harsh cleaning and with care its beauty will last a lifetime. Another positive aspect of copper sinks is that unlike many other types of sinks, these tend to grow in beauty over time. With age, the copper sink will change its color, however, if you do not want the color to change, you can simply use a furniture or brass wax to prevent it. Copper sinks makes things a whole lot easier on your life. Another great aspect of the copper sink is that it is overall cleaner and more sanitary than other material types. Copper is a natural elemental that contains antibacterial benefits, therefore bacteria and other harmful substances cannot hope to survive on copper. In a study performed on, stainless steel and copper, it was shown that copper is extremely sanitary by

When purchasing a copper sink you will want to look for a few specific things. Make sure you consider the decor and look of your home; this will help you understand the type of copper sink you will want. Another thing is to make sure the copper sink is made by hand and not manufactured in a factory somewhere; this will help ensure that you are getting a quality copper sink for your home. When it comes down to actually purchasing your copper sink, make certain you are purchasing a copper sink of high quality. Yes, price is an important factor for everyone today, however remember the old saying, You get what you pay for. This saying holds true with copper sinks as well. The cheaper a copper sink becomes, the less copper it is actually made of. Cheaper copper sinks are typically made of recycled copper, this means that the copper comes from machines or computers that used copper. This further means that the copper used in your copper sink, could only be 90% pure or even less. I never really took into consideration how many designer pet products were available until we finally had the opportunity to adopt our own two little puppies. In a matter of a week, our two precious divas were sleeping in nicer beds than ours, using shampoo products more expensive than our own, relaxing on designer print pillows created just for them and enjoying la crème de la crème of dog food. Oh yes, and not to mention the “Roots” jackets that were a necessity for those cold winter days. When did a dog’s life get so good? Manufacturers are definitely getting on board the bandwagon with creating incredibly stylish furnishings for pets. You’ll easily find luxury items such as designer sleigh beds, pet sofas slip-covered in custom prints and accessorized with matching pillows. If comfort isn’t enough, they can now eat their dog food from elaborate personalized porcelain serving bowls. Leashes brushes are even adorned with Swarovski crystals that sparkle beyond belief. The list goes on and on while the prices creep higher and higher. Pampering your pet with all the good things in life is definitely one of the latest new trends.

mid-tones or darker colors are usually a better choice to camouflage any marks or stains. Slipcovers are also a great option that will protect your furniture. They are completely washable and will eliminate the hassle and expense of professional cleaning. Choosing fabrics with patterns will generally disguise stains better than solid fabrics. Some fabrics available are made with a protective finish that will last for years, even with regular washings. Choosing upholstery fabric that has a tighter weave is another smart option for pet owners. Looser weaves are an invitation to sharp claws that may snag the fabric. When it comes to having pets, drapery may also be on your list of concerns. For those of us who love the look of those extra-long drapery panels that puddle so elegantly on the floor, you may have to pack them away (even temporarily) if you find your pet prefers to use them as a playground. Every animal reacts differently to things in your home, so it will time and patience to come up with the best solutions to maintain your home without sacrificing style.

When it comes to homes, many pet owners today want to ensure their home is pet-friendly while maintaining the look of elegance. There are a few things to keep in mind when planning out the pet decorating process for your home. Safety and maintenance should clearly be on the top of your list. When it comes to flooring, selecting a product that is scratch-resistant, such as ceramic tile or laminate, is a wonderful choice. Laminated, nonporous surfaces will resist stains and can be wiped clean without any problem. Hardwood and marble products may not be your best choices for flooring as they tend to scratch quite easily. When it comes to fabric and upholstery, “ultra-suede” or “micro-fibre” remains one of the hottest new fabrics available on the market. It’s both elegant and durable and comes in a wide range of colors, although the best quality micro-fibre does come with a higher price tag. When it comes to having pets,

HOUSE FOR SALE (NC)—When it comes to romance, we can be a tongue-tied nation. According to a recent surveyby Ipsos-Reid, 25% of Canadians in relationships find it difficult to express their feelings in writing. Come Valentine’s Day, 50% find it easier to show their feelings physically. “It can be tricky finding the right words when signing your Valentine’s Day card,” says Jennifer Kinnon of Hallmark Canada. “But it doesn’t have to be that hard to put a smile on your sweetheart’s face.” Kinnon suggests adding your own touches to your Valentine’s Day card: • Quote a line or two from “your song” • Include a poem or an excerpt from a favourite book • Enclose a photo that captures a cherished moment • Provide a clue to where a gift is hidden • Enclose tickets for a week-end getaway, concert or sports event • Simply write the time and location of a rendezvous – perhaps where you had your first date. You can find more Valentine’s Day ideas at www.hallmark.ca. - News Canada

If you’re like most of us with human characteristics you most likely spend a great deal of time in front of the bathroom mirror. We spend hours looking at ourselves, primping our faces, styling our hair and making certain we are ready to start our day. With all this time we spend in this setting, I think it would be appropriate to take a good deal of time choosing just the right mirror. One that will suit you and the room it’s in. For centuries the bathroom mirror was considered more for function then as a decorating piece. Typically every house has one, but what makes it unique to you is the style. The bathroom mirror has become the perfect compliment and an inspiration for its beauty.

mirror with an adjustable arm. This should be placed directly across from the mirror above the sink. You will love it and never have to wonder again what your hair looks like in the back! Also available are wall mirrors with magnifiers. With this your friends will think you had a make up artist at your home. A popular new trend is to hang a sconce directly on the mirror. This is an easy way to double the light in your room. Another trick is to hang different mirror styles over matching his and hers vanities. With the vast varieties you will be able to find one that fits your budget.. One word of advice, be careful how you choose to hang the mirror. If you get too creative and try to hang one on an angle the cost will double due to installation. You should always clean your mirror with a soft dirt free cloth and warm water. If you decide to use a spray cleaner just spray it on the cloth never directly on the glass surface. If you do this incorrectly the moisture could make the backing come off.

One of its most important functions is to reflect light both natural and artificial. It adds a depth to a room making it look larger then it is. It helps to enhance your bathroom with warmth and inviting features. They are available in all shapes such as round, oval, rectangular, square and with or without a frame. You can create a traditional, modern or Victorian style design just by the mirror you purchase. A traditional style looks best with a framed mirror where as a contemporary or modern look should be unframed, circular or beveled. Have you ever wondered why you look better in some mirrors then others? This is all do to the lighting around or above the mirror. In order for it to be a pleasant experience the mirror must be properly lighted. Mirror lights can be perfect for a small room but for a larger area an extra ceiling fixture is needed and essential for general lighting purposes. Make certain that your mirror reflects an object back that is pleasing to your eye such as a picture or floral arrangement. There is not a written law on the size of the mirror but it does look best if it is not larger then the width of the vanity. There are an abundance of choices in the market place. You can purchase mirrors with medicine cabinets that will help with extra storage. There are also wall mounted mirrors, make up mirrors, vanity and wall hanging. If you are blessed with a large space you can install a wall hanging

Page 10

To accompany your mirror you can also purchase heaters. So when you are ready to shave, or put your make-up on or do your hair the mirror is ready too. This device will keep the mirror from steaming up. To make this a truly unique piece, try to dress it up. You can buy a stencil or frosting kit and see what magic you can create. In my very first apartment I had a beveled flawed bathroom mirror. I went to a thrift store and purchased a frame. I came home and painted it to match my vanity, I can’t begin to tell you how many compliments I received. I hope this information has inspired you to set your creativity free and find the serenity that you deserve. A chandelier was always one that was associated with timelessness and romance, particularly a crystal chandelier. Perhaps this is because a crystal chandelier comes across as sparkly; something that a lot of people would attribute to being magical when perceived. Another thing that makes crystal chandelier awe-inspiring is with its play of light by the way it disperses light. Indeed, a crystal chandelier inspires. It works more favorably with a room that would be able to accommodate the grandiose and the elegance that a crystal chandelier demands. Imagine putting a crystal chandelier in, say, your summer cabin, wherein most furnishings are of wood. The crystal chandelier would most definitely look out of place. A crystal chandelier is a great way to make a home a living statement of beauty and elegance. When you first think of a crystal chandelier, you might associate it with being historical or antique. This may be because whenever we see crystal chandeliers being shown on television, the setting always seems to be that of a historical one. But the changing time have also meant upgrading the design of a crystal chandelier. Nowadays, there is crystal chandeliers designed for the modern home. Crystal chandeliers come in a variety of styles, colors and sizes. If you wish to purchase one for your home, you first know what type of crystal chandelier would work best to your advantage.

Take note of the size Another important thing to consider in choosing the right crystal chandelier for you to purchase is the size of the chandelier. It should be proportional to the size of the room. The crystal chandelier will always tend to be the focus when one enters a room, because of what it aesthetically signifies. Thus, it should not be too to overwhelm and completely dominate the room but nor should it be too small as to decrease its aesthetic appeal. Height also matters Chandeliers hang from the ceiling, and for this fact another important consideration in choosing the right crystal chandelier would also be its height. Sometimes, the height of the chandelier will be the one determining factor of its appreciation by others. In the case of putting it in your dining room, for example, hanging the chandelier too low to be close enough to the table would be distracting and therefore a big no-no. Hanging it too high, on the other hand, would reduce its appeal, for it would out of immediate sight. The illumination is also one to contend with After you have purchased your crystal chandelier and after you have it installed, adjust the illumination of its light according to the feel and ambience that you want to bring into the room by which it is placed. Remember that crystal chandeliers are not to be the main light source in a room, for they are there mostly for their decorative aspect. Thus, the illumination that it gives off should be adjusted to one that would give you your desired aura of the room, instead of one that would provide the main source of light in the room. Crystal chandeliers, when chosen carefully, will always give you all that they represent elegance and beauty in your home.

Consider the room you want to place it in Remember that a crystal chandelier states elegance. Therefore, you cannot just place it in any room without consideration of the decor of the room. This would defeat the decorative purpose of purchasing a crystal chandelier, and you do not want that. You have to make sure that the crystal chandelier would blend with the type of room that you place it in,

as well as the decor that the room consists of.

Pesto in Italy and Pesto in the rest of the world; is just not the same. So what is it that makes authentic Italian pesto unlike any pesto you have ever tasted? Is it as simple as making it by hand or are there certain techniques that ensure a successful or a flopped pesto? The following will give some general hints as to how to make the perfect pesto from scratch. Pesto originated from the region of Liguria. It is named for the method of its preparation - pestatura - grinding of the leaves and the other ingredients in a traditional marble mortar (murta) using a wooden pestle (pestellu). This gives us a hint of the true key to the perfect pesto - that is hand-grinding using a mortar and pestle. Most pesto that you will encounter, will have been machine blended. This causes the ingredients to become homogenized into a paste with little or no definition between them. By hand chopping the ingredients, you allow for definition between them so that when you taste the final product of the dressed dish, individual flavours pop into your mouth in a unique way for a unique taste. Ideally, when chopping the ingredients, you should chop some of the ingredients, then add some and chop some more. Continue this way until all ingredients have been added and chopped. This allows for different sizes of cut ingredients throughout the pesto, which adds to its texture and character. Make sure that you use a sharp knife when chopping the basil for your pesto. If your knife is blunt, the basil will turn a dark shade. It can take twenty to thirty minutes to chop all of the ingredients for a pesto, so a sharp mezzaluna (preferably with a large, single blade) is the ideal knife to use. The ingredients often get stuck in the double bladed knives, so these can become frustrating to use. A halfmoon shaped pizza cutter can work a treat as well. Genovese pesto is made with small, young basil leaves - a distinction that has made it famous. It is possible to find these in the stores, but if you grow your own basil that will afford you the flexibility of choice of basil leaves that may make all the difference to your pesto. Seasoning is very important with your pesto. It is quite acceptable not to add salt to the pesto, but if you are serving it on pasta, then make sure that you salt the water for your pasta well, or the overall flavour will be lost. You may need to slightly adjust your seasoning before serving. Pesto tastes best when it is served soon after it is made, though it will last a short time in the fridge. If you are serving your pesto on pasta, you can add some of the pasta water to thin it for more coverage, but this is not a necessity. Just before serving, give the pesto a good stir to mix the olive oil in with the basil leaves, dress your dish and have a treat.

Recipe of the Day - Pesto Chicken Swirl This recipe assumes that you have made your own tradition pesto (ie a combination of garlic, olive oil, basil and roasted pine nuts). If commercial pesto is used, may be add a bit of coarsely crashed roasted pine nuts and/or chopped basil leaves to enhance the texture and flavour. Ingredients 1. 1 Skinless Chicken Breast 2. 50g of Gourmet Cherve (or mild goat cheese or feta) 3. 3 Tspn of your homemade Pesto 4. 1/4 Cup of Olive Oil 5. 1 Tspn of roasted Pine Nuts 6. 1/2 Cup of Chicken Stock 7. Salt & Pepper to taste Method 1. Pound your chicken breast to a thin piece. To minimise the mess of the pounding you could create, just make sure you cover the chicken breast with a layer of glad-wrap while pounding. Make sure to avoid pounding through the meat creating holes. 2. Spread the Pesto on one side of the chicken generously and season with salt and pepper. 3. Coarsely crushed the cheese and arrange on one side of the chicken and sprinkle the roasted pine nuts along the cheese. Make sure this is arranged to allow you to roll the chicken with the cheese becoming the centre of the roll. Also make sure there is enough room at both ends to allow you to secure it with wooden skewers to prevent the cheese filling from escaping from the roll. 4. Roll the chicken to ensure it is a reasonable tight roll, securing both ends. If the chicken is too big a piece, cut it into half, it is easy to cook and less likely to fall apart if the roll is smaller but big enough to cut into half (if not thirds). Brush the chicken roll with olive oil generously. 5. Heat up a pan with some olive oil. When the oil is hot enough (but not smoking), place the chicken roll with the unseal side down first and turn down the flame to medium. Gently pan fried the chicken rolls about 5 minutes on each side depending on the thickness of the roll. 6. Pour in chicken stock and cover to simmer for 10 minutes (make sure that the stock does not dry up, add hot water if stock looks like drying up). 7. Dish up the chicken roll and remove the skewers at both ends of the roll. Cut the roll diagonally in half to review the cream, green and white swirling colour effect of the roll. Drizzle the remaining cooking juice from the pan onto the roll. Server it with either cooked vegetables or salad.

Sometimes we all need a little comfort in our lives. Whether we just need a little pick me up from a bad day, or whether we have had a serious loss and need some warmth and care. A lot of times, we rely on others to provide the help and comfort we need. However, there are lots of little things you can to do make yourself feel better when you need to. What follows is a list of things that you can do to make yourself feel better and smile more. . Fix a pot of your favorite tea, serve it to yourself in your best china, with a sprig of mint, and relax while drinking it.

. Count backwards either in your mind or under your breath from 10 to 1.

. Fix your favorite “comfort food” from when you were a child. Whether it was Campbell’s Chicken Noodle soup, or grilled cheese sandwiches, it is amazing how much that special comfort food from our childhood can pick us up today!

. Tense up your entire body at once, make it as tense as you can, then relax . Smile! You would be amazed at how much tension and stress the simple act of smiling can relieve. And if you don’t feel like smiling right then (which you probably won’t!), fake it til you make it!

. Turn off the telephone, lock the doors, run a hot bath with bubbles, add candles to the sides of your bath, and put on some soothing music (I recommend Enya!). Relax in your homemade “spa” for at least a half hour! . Call or write to a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while! See what they are up to, and share with them what has been happening to you. . Rediscover the lost art of letter writing (snail mail!). Yes, people do still write letters sometimes! If you don’t have anyone to write to, find a penpal group online - there are tons of them, and you can find many new friends this way also!

. Take a slow, deep calming breath, in through your nose and out through your mouth (It worked for the Karate Kid, it will work for you!).

These are only a few ideas that you can use for some extra comfort in your life. Feel free to make up some of your own to add to the list as well! And of course, these aren’t always for just when you need extra attention. You can also do these anytime you wish, just to smile about it! It is undeniable that now and then we need warmth, especially during those cold winter nights. Before the emergence of technological devices that allow us comfort at the most possible convenience, people catered to fire places to keep them from being overwhelmed by the cold. It became the main source of heat and warmth in American homes, and thus was very much a necessity in every household.

course, an important material that would help bring this about is a fireplace screen. Advantages of Catering to a wrought iron fireplace screen If you want an inviting and warm aura for your fireplace, then you would best cater to a wrought iron fireplace screen. A wrought iron fireplace screen generates a warm look, whether there is a fire crackling in your fireplace or not. It also gives the place grace, and it can complement almost any type of decor. This works to your advantage in such a way that you retain the original decorations in the room, without making the fireplace screen seem out of place.

Kelly & staff at the Dairy Queen in Fort Qu’Appelle invite you to come in and taste the DQ Grill & Chill difference for yourself.

DAIRY QUEEN Nowadays, in the advent of technology, heating systems have replaced the necessity of having fireplaces in our homes. That is why catering to fire places are now considered to be more of a luxury than actual necessity. Fire places now serve a decorative purpose, and so people are always trying to make it more beautiful. It is quite irrelevant if it is actually used or not. One of the accessories in making your fireplace more beautiful and more inviting to the eye, as it no longer considered to be functional in the sense of need, are fireplace screens. A fire place screen keeps the house from being dirtied by what the fireplace emits, like the smoke and ashes. It prevents these from escaping into the air inside the house and from sullying the floors. It also serves as a shield from the overwhelming heat that can result from an unshielded fireplace. It is not important whether your fireplace serves it basic use or not. What is important

is that you make it beautiful, because it is now part of your home furniture. To enhance its look or make it more beautiful than it actually is, what you can do is to buy a couple of things or decorative materials that would best fit the style and finish of your fireplace. With the right materials, you may not only beautify the fireplace alone. You might be able to enhance or change for the better the entire touch of the room where your fireplace is located. Of

Another advantage of going for a wrought iron screen is the number of designs and handwork that can be done to it. You could plan on any design that you might want, because craftsmen consider the material as one that can have endless designs. Some designs for a wrought iron screen Rotating screen This is perfect when you are hosting parties, because you can easily rotate it according to the activities that your parties may consist of. Garden gate This kind of design is set so that a number of panels are positioned in such a way as to create the garden gate look. This kind of fire place screen would best suit friendly and casual get-together. Monogram wrought iron screen This kind of wrought iron fireplace screen is made of bronze and is more fitting for formal events, because of its elegance and its conveyance of formality. This is brought about by its startling fit to a combination of black iron. It will look more brilliant with a fire crackling behind it. Somebody once asked me why I was so fascinated with muscle cars. You know, it’s hard for an outsider looking in to understand why we muscle car lovers are so fanatical about our cars. Until they’ve been behind the wheel of a newly restored ’66 Pontiac GTO, they just haven’t a clue. Why is it that we can browse through muscle car advertisements for hours on end? Why do we have to go to every muscle car show that comes near our town? Why do we drive out of our way to see some of the hottest muscle cars around? Why do we seemingly pour all of our extra money into our muscle cars?

First, muscle cars are original. Those who collect or restore muscle cars put their heart and soul into their hobby which makes every muscle car truly unique. Second, muscle cars are powerful. There’s nothing that gets the adrenaline pumping quite like sitting behind the wheel of a classic, high-performance muscle car. Third, when you take a classic car, restore it and muscle it up, you really have something to be proud of. It’s a lot like an artistic ability for me – like

One thing is for certain, regardless of the reason a muscle car devotee is interested in muscle cars, we all seem to talk the same talk and walk the same walk. Dealing with muscle cars is an incredible social outlet. Whether we collect, restore, show, or race our muscle cars, it doesn’t matter. We’re all on the same wavelength and we truly enjoy looking at and chatting about muscle cars. Some enthusiasts have specific lines of muscle cars that they are interested in, while others are just crazy about muscle cars in general. Some like imports, others like exports, and most all muscle car enthusiasts have a strong interest in classics. We can look at them, talk about them, drive them, or just work on them. Muscle cars give us something to look forward to, something fun to invest our time and money into, and the muscle car hobby keeps us out of trouble – for the most part. Some people think a passion for muscle cars comes from peer pressure – a need to impress other people per se. As a muscle car enthusiast I can honestly say that’s not it, at least not for me. My interest in muscle cars dates way back to before I was ever concerned about what anybody thought. I have always found muscle cars to be fascinating and exciting.

The history of GM, the world’s largest automaker, saw it’s beginning in 1908. The company was founded by William Durant in the year 1902. The shrewd businessman that he was, Durant realized that the future lay with cars and not carriages. Initially, the company was founded as a holding company for Buick. The latter part of the year saw the company acquiring Oldsmobile, followed by the possession of Cadillac, Oakland and Elmore in the very next year. Many of the motor companies were in dire straits during the difficult years of the early 1900’s. The stock market panic in 1907 put a lot of small companies into financial distress. Many of these companies were running on credit from various bankers. This was a golden opportunity for Durant, who proceeded to buy smaller car builders, and companies that built car parts as well as car accessories. In 1908, these various companies were folded into a single unit, thus creating the new GM entity. This marked the exciting beginning of the true history of GM.

brands of GM - Pontiac, Cadillac, Buick, Oldsmobile and Chevrolet began changing every year with the focus being directed mainly at looks and style. This strategy paid rich dividends. Ford was pushed to the backseat again by GM.

William Durant

William Durant was a flamboyant businessman whose curious mix of genius and over-reaching took GM both to its heights as well as plunged it into financial distress. In 1910, bankers were forced to step in to prevent financial collapse of GM, and Durant was removed from the company he had founded. But by 1911, the company had made enough advances into the international market that the General Motors Export Company was established to handle sales outside the U.S and Canada. Durant managed to use another company he formed, Chevrolet, to come back to power in GM during 1915, and the history of GM from 1915-1920 is full of successes. During this time, the Cadillac became wildly successful. In 1918, GM bought the operating assets of Chevrolet Motors. But, soon America was hit by a power recession and in 1920, Durant again found himself out of the company.

Alfred Sloan

During the financial boom in the 1920’s, the history of GM virtually glowed with success. Auto sales reached the 4.5 million mark, and the auto industry now had three giants - GM, Ford and Chrysler. GM now had a brilliant engineer turned industrialist at its helm. Alfred Sloan who was later acclaimed for his marketing genius had slowly worked his way up among the ranks of GM. His marketing genius breathed a fresh lease of life into GM that was beginning to get overshadowed by Ford.

Ford’s philosophy of giving the public the best value for their money offered little variety. But Sloan and GM were interested in providing the public with more than a black box. Stylish colors, features and comfort became the new motto of the company. GM also made a path-breaking offer - the public could now buy a car on credit. The five

Issue #5

The great Wall Street crash in 1929 put an abrupt stop to all expansion plans at GM for the time being. Stocks of GM fell rather badly. But, by early 1930’s GM bounced back and bought the Yellow Coach bus company. In 1930, GM bought Electro-Motive Corporation, the internal combustion engine railcar builder. The next 20 years saw GM powered diesel locomotives running on American railroads. December 31, 1955 is another landmark in the history of GM. GM became the first company to make more than a billion dollars in a year. There was a time in the History of GM when it was the largest corporation in the US. The history of GM also shows that there was a time when GM was the single largest employer in the world. But, in recent times GM has been beset with financial woes. November 2005 saw GM booking a $4 billion loss and about 30,000 employees were laid off. 12 plants were closed down. It is far more enjoyable to ride a horse that trusts you rather than one who does not. But getting a horse to trust you is a difficult task, especially if the horse has a history of past abuse. It is indeed possible to befriend a horse who is shy and reticent but does not have a history of past abuse. Make sure that you approach the horse from the left. And always remember to show him what you have in your hands – even if it is a hoof pick, meant to be used on him. The second thing to remember is always to wear tight clothes. Loose clothing flaps in the breeze and may unnerve you horse. And once you have scared him, it is difficult to make him believe you. Its hardly comfortable both for the owner as well as the horse, if there is an element of fear and mistrust between the two of you. To put it simply you should not make the horse do any activity, which he does not feel confident to do. The horse has to have full confidence on you, when you ask him to jump or trot down an unfamiliar path. If you ask him to take a jump and he fails to do so, he will lose the confidence he has in you instantly. He will be frightened to take any command from you the next time. So, instead try and build his confidence in you slowly and gradually. Practice with him, going down a wide and easy road or jumping over easy hurdles. This way he develops trust in you. Never make him do anything which is beyond his capabilities. Gaining trust from a horse which has been previously abused, is nearly impossible. However with a lot of patience, you may evoke

some confidence at the end. Taking to your horse if a soft, soothing voice helps. Do this before you ask him to do any task. Never make yourself overbearing to your horse, demanding to get his attention. And never try to ride him before you get his trust. Relieve him of any fright or mistrust first. When he is used to your presence as well as your voice, approach him then. Remember always that a horse who is scared is very difficult to manage, so never force anything on him. On the contrary, offer him some food that he enjoys. Soon after he has relished something given by you a few times, gently stroke his muzzle to befriend him further. You know you have reached some understanding with your horse, if you find that your horse is letting you stroke him. You must however never ride an abused horse, without the help of a horse trainer, who has had some experience with abused horses. These horses are calm when you are on the ground but starts panicking when you are trying to ride them. Have you ever heard of powder coating? Do you have any idea just what it is? Well if you don’t, then this article is just what you need. Powder coating is one of the best painting technique out there however not everybody is aware of it. In powder coating the preparation is very important if you want to have the best paint job results. The preparation includes the stripping of the motorcycle parts of all its paint. It is very important that the motorcycle parts to be coated must be entirely stripped of any remaining paint, dirt, oil and any other substance. Sandblasting is required to completely clean the motorcycle parts. Afterwards, the motorcycle parts are going to be baked to get rid of the moisture from the metal. The motorcycle parts are now treated with degreasing solution to prevent from rusting.

and surpass the originally painted parts of your motorcycle. And aside from that, there are also hundreds of colors to choose from. Likewise, powder coated motorcycle parts can also withstand acids, solvents, impacts and even abrasions. The process of powder coating can be used to paint items including valve covers, wheels, trim parts, sway bars, bumpers, coil springs, strut bars as well as other items. For those who are interested there are online as well as offline powder coating companies that you may turn to. The usual thing required is for you to either shipped mail or bring personally the part or the item of your motorcycle or even your car parts that you want to have powder coated. About The Author: Written by Maricon Williams Please visit Yamaha Motorcycle Parts site at http://www. yamahamotorcyclepartsonline. com/ for comments and inquiries regarding this article. Article source: http://www.articlecity.com/articles/auto_and_ trucks/article_744.shtml

The process of powder coating is used especially for selected motorcycle parts in which they are coated with fine powder of resin as well as pigment which is more of a ground up paint grains that form a powder-like substance. The items being coated are then hanged on a rack which grounds the item. A spray gun is then used to spray the powder onto the motorcycle parts. Afterwards, spraying on the motorcycle parts, these are then baked on a large oven in order to cure the coating. The usual temperature used for curing is between 400 and 450 degrees. Another purpose of curing and baking the motorcycle parts is to melt the pigments, melt the gel in order to come up with a hard-wearing finish. The end product is an even coating. Powder coating can also be applied to steel, zinc, aluminum as well as to some other materials. The great thing about powder coating is that it has the ability to withstand

(NC)—During the winter months, many Canadians find themselves longing for a warm, tropical vacation. If you are planning a winter getaway, don’t forget about your health. There’s nothing worse than returning to snowy Canada with a travel illness you caught in the Caribbean. When planning a winter get-away down south, many Canadians know to take health precautions – they pack sunscreen, buy travel insurance, and bring an extra bottle of pain relievers. But many don’t know that malaria is present in common Canadian vacation destinations. Malaria is often associated with areas like Africa and South Asia, but this illness occurs in popular travel destinations, like the Caribbean including Jamaica and certain parts of the Dominican Republic. Malaria is spread through the bite of infected mosquitoes and symptoms include fever, headache, chills, tiredness, muscle aches and vomiting. In general, it is a curable disease, but without treatment it can lead to more serious problems and can sometimes be fatal.

Issue #5

Page 52

You can prevent a malaria infection on your vacation by avoiding exposure to mosquitoes and by taking a preventative anti-malarial medication. So, before you dig your toes in the sand and take that first sip of your cocktail, read these helpful tips to ensure a healthy holiday: 1. Mosquitoes are most active between dusk and dawn, so try to stay indoors at these times and wear light-coloured, long-sleeved clothing. 2. Consult your health care provider about taking a preventative anti-malarial medication. Some medications only need to be started one or two days before your trip. 3. Use insect repellent containing DEET on exposed skin. 4. Use screens and bed nets to reduce the number of mosquitoes entering your room. comparison to a utility ATV. Utility ATVs ( i.e. http://www.atv-parts-naccessories.com/atv_shoppers_guide.htm) have a few features characteristic only to its classification. They are always the ATVs with a larger body and most utility quads have racks for equipment carrying. The suspension on a utility ATV is generally stiffer than the sport styles because you need a smoother ride when carrying a work load.

Nearly anyone who knows what ATVing is also knows that the sport appeals largely to a young population. This known fact is also the root of much controversy. Many people protest the use of ATVs by children under 12 and others even believe teenagers under the legal driving age should be banned from driving ATVs. There are actually no strictly enforced regulations or age limits for riding ATVS. Court cases have ruled with requests that ATV manufacturers print a recommended age limit for certain size engines. Manufacturers now recommend that ATVs with engines larger than 70cc are for ages 12 and up. A 90cc engine is recommended for 16-year-olds and up. These recommendations are not enforced, which frustrates some people, however, ATV manufacturers continue to make ATVs for the young crowds. Several companies have released an ATV model for riders as young as six-years-old.

As you familiarize yourself with ATV riding you will learn which quad styles suit your body and riding type the best. ATVing is similar to many consumer products in that it is wisest to try them out first hand in order to make the best decision. If you are trying ATVing for the absolute first time, start with a smaller engine, just to get the feel, and then move up as you gain confidence. Recreational Vehicles

If you have experienced all terrain vehicles in action, whether it was for sport and/or utility purposes, then you know the reason behind the growing popularity of their use. ATVs can perform multiple tasks very effectively and because of this they appeal to a diverse audience. For many of you, your ATV adventures have just begun. Whether you plan to rent ATVs for recreational riding or are thinking of buying your own for a farm utility vehicle, there are several aspects of quads that should be taken into consideration in order to find the best four-wheeler for your money.

Sport and sport/utility ATVs are those used for racing and thrill riding. The suspension on these styles is longer to endure hard landings. SUV ATVs may still have small carrying racks for work as well, but the sport styles have as little body material as possible for speed. All ATV styles have a common characteristic, which is their ability to endure rough rides on the toughest terrain.

The age limit is ultimately up to you, but no matter how old you are, it is important to find the right ATV style to ride whether it is a rental or your own. If you have a choice when renting ATVs, find one that suits your comfort with respect your weight and height. Rentals are typically for sport riding; therefore the ATVs will have a light design with less body plastic in

The idea of sitting (or standing) on a craft that is designed to provide the rider with the thrill and fun of riding a snowmobile, only on the open water, is either: a) nerve-wracking, b) old hat, or c) something that “I’ve got to try before I die!” We’re talking jet skiing, folks, and for those who already know, the thrill that comes with cruising on the water’s surface

at speeds that can exceed 50 MPH (80 km/h) is second to none. For those who have yet to discover this aquatic nirvana, you’re only a rental at your local beach away from getting in on the action. Jet skis are, quite simply, not skis at all but rather watercraft that operate on a skiing premise. That is, they skip along the water’s surface, much like snow skis would do on the slopes. They are driven by gas-powered engines, some as strong as 150 horsepower. Some jet skis enable the driver to sit down, and with a person riding ‘shotgun’. Other units are meant to be operated by the driver in a standing-only position. In either instance, you are in command of a powerful watercraft that will have you the envy of beachcombers and boaters alike.

Power and fun aside, these aren’t toys. Anything that provides the thrill and excitement that jet skis do must be operated with training and attention to your surroundings. Knowing at which speed to safely operate the craft, versus how many other small crafts are on the water, who might be water skiing, what natural and man-made obstructions may exist, etc., is not only important but could ultimately save you from significant injury or even death. Proper safety equipment, such as life jackets and helmets, are also required, and rules to this end vary depending on where you are using your jet ski, so make sure you know the local law before going out on the water. It is estimated that operator error is responsible for about 95 percent of all jet-ski accidents. If all safety regulations and rules and items of common sense are adhered to, and if speed and open water and personal watercraft are three things that go together well in your mind’s eye, look no further than jet skiing to provide you with the time of your life the next time you find yourself at the lake For information abut this sport then please feel free to visit my site at http://www.justjetski.com About The Author: Written by Ashley Barnard http://www.justjetski.com/ Article source: http://www.articlecity. com/articles/recreation_and_sports/article_1210.shtml

Ice climbing is not for the faint at heart. This exhilarating and dangerous sport takes participants into some of nature’s fiercest and most beautiful elements and requires strength, stamina and the willingness to stay outside for long periods of time in below-freezing weather. Many ice climbers describe the experience as electrifying and exhilarating. The danger involved in scaling vertical cascades of ice can create an amazing adrenaline rush, and reaching the top of a difficult and steep ice or snow formation can leave a climber with a tremendous sense of personal achievement. Ice climbing often is done in a surreal ice world of frozen waterfalls, huge icicles and compacted snow slides. Ice climbers, even those one-day experimenters, need to have a basic level of physical fitness. Ice climbing requires brute force and good technique, as climbers uses ice picks and crampons, which are sharp steel claws that attach to boots, to make their way up the ice. Many climbing schools offer one-day excursions that usually involve shorter climbs up a gentle slope. Experienced climbers, however, will ascend vertical and sometimes overhanging ice walls, which requires excellent physical conditioning, stamina, courage and technique. Ice climbing can be done on all levels, from one-day climbs to a lifetime pursuit. For those who want a one-time thrill, it is recommended that they hire a guide or take a class on the basics, then go with more experienced climbers. Climbing schools offer one-day classes, but it is recommended that beginners take twoor three-day classes so that they can spend adequate time learning climbing techniques before attempting a climb. Classes and guides can cost several hundred dollars, and they are offered at many popular ice-climbing sites. Rock climbing experience is helpful, but some short ice-climbing excursions will take people with no

experience. For those who are serious about the sport, then you can read more about it at ColdClimbs.co.uk. Ice climbing can be an expensive investment. Serious climbers not only travel to places to climb, but they also need to buy the basic equipment of crampons, boots, ice axes, belaying devices, ice screws and a helmet. Ice climbers also need warm clothing that will keep them comfortable in extremely cold weather. Ice climbing offers athletes the opportunity to continually challenge their physical fitness. The growing popularity of the ice climbing, including the proliferation of manmade ice formations that has brought the sport closer to home for many, has made ice climbing more accessible to more people. For those who are daredevils at heart and love a never-ending challenge, ice climbing can open the doors to satisfying and thrilling outdoor adventures. About The Author: Written by Ashley Barnard Ashley Barnard is an experienced ice climber, and has been ice climbing around the world for the past 15 years, his resent ventures have taken him into the artic to find more exposed icy locations for ever looking for that ultimate ice climb.
