Homes, Renovations & Real Estate
Home entertainment centers provide pride of place in any home and also serve a purpose as the family gathering point in the home. Keeping these thoughts in mind, it is very important to plan furniture purchase carefully.
Issue #36
First and foremost, you should give special attention to the side cabinets or stands. Even though the concept of TV entertainment side cabinets is relatively new, there are a wide variety of these side cabinets on the market. Often these cabinets will be separate pieces of furniture standing on either side of the TV stand. They should blend seamlessly with the entire unit to create the look of one large entertainment center. Designed to support, protect, and stylishly display your electronic equipment, crafts, accessories, and knick-knacks, they come in various sizes and depths.
The primary cabinet or TV stand in any entertainment center is the middle piece of furniture meant for the TV. The size of the TV stand can vary depending on your need. For instance, if you have a normal, square-shaped TV or if you have a huge wide-screen flat panel TV, there is a TV stand and entertainment center that will accommodate your needs. Normally, the size of the middle stand can be anywhere between 85 inches in length to 22 inches in depth, supply plenty of space for even the largest of home theater television screens. Keep in mind your side cabinets will most likely be holding remotely controlled pieces of electronic equipment such as DVD players, cable or satellite receivers, and surround sound receivers. Make sure that you buy side cabinets with open shelves instead of solid doors so you don’t run into issues with remote controlling. Another option, if you don’t want to have open shelves because you would like to protect decorative display pieces is to buy protective glass plates to cover openings. Also, make sure you take measurements of your electronic equipment so you don’t have problems with fitting these in a smaller space. The side units in an entertainment center, while usually being taller, are normally not as wide as the
Page 4
center TV stand. Now, while deciding upon the side units, you also have to keep in mind that electronic equipment produces heat. If there is no place for this heat to escape it can possibly damage your sensitive equipment. I definitely recommend purchasing open shelved entertainment centers. Personally, I feel that they provide a better look and eliminate any problems you may have with over-heating electronics. A very important part of your decision will be the style of your home entertainment center. Always keep in mind the style and designs of existing furniture and decor in the room. Ideally, you want your new entertainment center to blend in to the room seamlessly, while also providing an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere. You want a place that the whole family will gather to be entertained by movies, music, TV shows, and even video games! Whether you prefer modern or traditionally styled furniture your bound to find something you’ll love. A great place to find these home entertainment furniture sets is online. You may have visited a local furniture retailer and been turned away by pricey, expensive entertainment centers. Well, I’m here to let you know these same incredible furnishings can be found at a super discount online due to the competition between rival websites. Turn your home into the happening family hub you’ve always wanted it to be. Happy entertainment center shopping!

It really is important that you have a good idea what your decorating style is before you begin to decorate your home. For the most part, it will be a much more enjoyable experience if you have a clear idea of what it is you’re looking for. The best thing to begin doing is to browse through magazines and books to find photos of decorated rooms that appeal to you. Flag the rooms you like so that you can refer back to them when you need to. When you finally compile a few pictures together, take note what colors, fabrics, wall treatments, furniture, lighting and room arrangements were used. You’ll probably start to see some similarities between the rooms at this point. If you discover that you like a little bit of “all worlds”, such as “Traditional”, “Victorian” or “Contemporary” your decorating style would be referred to as “eclectic”. Many trends today generally fall in this category. Transitional decorating is one of the most popular choices as it incorporates styling that lasts. Keep a notebook handy to make a record of your favorite things. Include such things as what colors appeal to you the most. Do you prefer soft and light colors, dark tones, bright colors or muted shades? Also take note of the fabrics you enjoy. Do you prefer patterned, solid, plaids or brocades? Do you like light-weight fabrics or fabrics that are heavy and rich-looking? This will determine what window and furniture coverings you’ll enjoy having around you. You’ll also have to think about what type of woods you like. What wood is dominant in the pictures you chose? Do the rooms show mostly natural and comfortable looking woods, or are they highly polished and dark? Don’t forget to consider what furniture was used in the rooms as well. Is the furniture over-sized and
Issue #36
Page 6
comfortable looking or is it traditional with high back chairs? The pictures you have chosen may also show furniture with sleek straight lines that is more along the contemporary line. The way the furniture is arranged in the room will dictate the formality of your room. Do you prefer rooms that have furniture brought together in a cozy grouping, or do you prefer the furniture to be spread out? Are the rooms you chose arranged symmetrically (everything matching on both sides of the room) or asymmetrically (furniture mismatched around the room). Symmetrical rooms lend formality to a room while asymmetrical rooms are more informal.
No matter what, enjoy and appreciate the effort you’ve put into decorating your home. They are a reflection of who you are. And remember to keep your decorating style in mind as you decorate, you will have a much easier time creating the look you want. E-mail your decorating questions and photos to

Decorating your kitchen can be a fun and rewarding task. One of the first things you need to decide, however, is what color to paint or wallpaper the room in. Since the color has a huge effect on the look of your design, you should consider this carefully. Here’s some tips on what colors you might want to use for your chosen kitchen design style. French Country French country style is both rustic and elegant at the same time. Since the furnishing and accessories highlight this style, it is often best to go with plain walls. Try using a light colored paint in pale blue or yellow with crown moldings on the walls, or if you want something different go with stenciling. For an aged look try faux painting the walls to look like aged plaster or use plaster with a warm golden shade. Tropical There are a couple of variations on the tropical style. One is the traditional “Florida” tropical that uses corals or pinks and turquoise. These colors can be rather bright on the wall so you might want to stick with white walls and use these colors as accents or include them in borders and stencils. The other variation is the more modern “palm tree” tropical which uses more earth tones in khaki tans and greens. Painting the walls a sage green or tan and using palm tree borders is great - you can even get a nice palm tree wallpaper with matching border if you want. You could also consider having a tropical mural painted right on the wall, or you can buy wallpaper murals - there’s even a cute one of a faux window overlooking the beach!
color. Consider a faux plaster with an aged patina on the walls, or use faux painted walls that look like cracked plaster. A mural of a window looking out on the Tuscan countryside could really add some interest to this type of kitchen. Victorian When I think of a Victorian kitchen, I think of a simple black and white motif. White walls with black and white checked tile. You may want something a bit more colorful and in that case you can go with a floral print on the walls or plain paint in a white or off white and accent the walls by hanging antique plates and other assorted items. Mexican The Mexican motif is about deep rich colors - reds, cobalt blues and dark yellow. You can use any of these colors successfully or try using a stucco on the walls, or maybe go with faux paint that resembles plaster. Think about adding some colorful Mexican tile to the back splash to really get liven things up. Your colors are a vital piece of your overall decor, yet many people are afraid to paint their walls in anything but white. If you really want a great look - try adding deep rich color to your walls then if you don’t like it you can always repaint them!
Tuscan Tuscan walls should have an age old look. Try a golden mustard yellow or earth tones as a paint Issue #36

If you watch history programs on television or do much reading in this vein, you may recall seeing some of the beautiful medieval tapestries that frequently depict hunting scenes or well-known figures in freeze-frame motion. Hand-woven by women or perhaps monks with obvious artistic talent, these art forms preserve and showcase the exceptional talent of those who produced them centuries ago. Tapestries originally were shaped like large area carpets that might be laid on a stone floor to keep
it clean and dry. Instead, they were hung on drafty stonewalls of secluded palaces or fortresses to enliven the place and to prevent the damp cold from creeping into residents’ bones. Woven with heavy yarn spun from animal wool that had been dyed a variety of shades, the beautifully crafted designs capture the long-ago adventure of battle scenes, treaties, and other monumental events that shaped the course of history. Handed down through a long family line or traded in open markets as well as donated to museum collections, many famous tapestries from Europe and other regions survive today to remind us of the ancient artisans who wove them with great care. You can get the same feel of history, art, and comfort when you buy a modern-day tapestry. Or, better yet, make one yourself. While you need not shear the sheep to get their wool for your project, you can purchase the wool or silk at any stage of its
SASKHOUSES.COM
development that will be needed. Then you can needlepoint a selected design into the fabric to bring long-dead ancestors or family history to life. Your tapestry need not be as heavy or as large as those of old. Instead, begin by making a smaller version that can be used as a decorative wall hanging in your den or used as an accent rug in the family room. You can get tapestry kits from a craft or fabric store. Choose a ready-made pattern or make one yourself from an old photograph or art piece. Then select the proper type of thread and needle that will be used to imprint the design on a fabric backing. Follow the directions posted in a tapestry guidebook, or enroll in a community college course or fabric store sewing class devoted to tapestry to learn more about this historical art form. No one will be disappointed if your first effort isn’t a masterpiece. Just learn from any mistakes and try again until you get the result you want. Your family will love the exquisite designs that you can mold from heirlooms and special mementos. If time will not permit you to make your own tapestry, visit one of the well-stocked specialty shops that offer this type of home decoration. Compare prices and quality before making your selection. Either way, your guests and loved ones will appreciate the unique look of a tapestry adorning your personal abode. (NC)—There’s good news and bad news for Canadians who suffer from arthritis pain in the winter. Let’s start with the bad news: although it’s tempting to stay indoors and hibernate in front of the TV, inactivity during the winter months can actually cause the pain from arthritis to worsen. The good news is you don’t have to go down a double black diamond ski slope to ward off your winter aches and pains. Maintain your health this winter without freezing your nose or wetting your toes by following some simple guidelines. • Exercise – Explore new activities such as yoga, tai chi, or a brisk walk indoors at your local community centre or shopping mall. If you’re feeling more energetic, and don’t mind braving the cold, try low-impact activities like snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. • Preventive care – Arthritis pain can hit at any time. Be sure to follow your doctor’s orders and take your medication as prescribed. By taking your medication Issue #36
consistently, it can help to not only manage the pain, but also prevent it from getting worse. Over-the-counter pain relievers containing acetaminophen, such as Tylenol Arthritis Pain, are often recommended as the first line of defense against the pain of arthritis. • Stay hydrated – More water on the ground shouldn’t mean less water in your glass. Continue to drink water throughout the day to keep your joints lubricated and allow for maximum movement and flexibility. - News Canada

Champagne is not only the name of a sparkling wine, but the name of the place that it comes from. The area that it comes from is cooler and has a shorter growing season than that of the typical area where vineyards are found. About one hundred miles northeast of Paris, near the Belgian border is the largest area.
Montagne produces some of the world’s best champagne due to its anomalous microclimate. Vallee de la Marne has vineyards that produce mostly Pinot Meunier. A wonderful Chardonnay is produced in Cote de Blancs. Cote de Sezanne may be a new comer to the production of champagne but the southern location but its southern location allows for the grapes to ripen better than many of the other areas. The furthest south region brings you to the Aube where the temperature does have greater temperature extremes. It has numerous blends of champagne. You may not have heard of this area though because it is much less well known than the others.
Chalky soils are the best for growing the vineyards because they provide natural moisture regulation with good drainage. The chalk also reflects the sunshine and heat upward to the grape and within to the roots. There is also a thin layer of topsoil receives the needed addition of fertilizer from those that care for the vineyards, called vintners. Some of the vintners care for the vineyards part time. Although there are other zones the three main zones here are Cote des Blancs, the Vallee de la Marne, and Montagne de Reims. The best and biggest are in the department of the Marne. The minimum temperature required to ripen grapes is fifty degrees Fahrenheit: ten degree Celsius. They also must be located high enough to be clear of frost which is ninety meters or two hundred ninety five feet but yet low enough to be sheltered from extreme heat which is below two hundred ten meters or six hundred eighty nine feet. Great examples of a location such as this are Montagne de Reims, Grand and Premier Cru. Grand and Premier Cru grows primarily Pinot Noir.
Theoretically the best way to produce the best champagne is to mix together the best features of all the best grapes from all of the different areas. Each area stores millions of gallons of wine from the various vineyards for just such a purpose. The blends are produced from these varieties. Pinot Meunier is the most commanding Champagne variety. It makes up nearly forty percent of the total acreage and makes up the foundation for all but those that are the most exclusive champagnes. Coming in at a close second is Pinot Noir with about thirty five percent of the total acreage. This makes up much of the longevity of champagne. Chardonnay makes up for the remaining twenty five percents and it also adds exquisiteness.

Moving and relocation can be an exciting time. It can also be a time fraught with worry and apprehension. Placing your entire life inside a bunch of boxes is no easy task. But it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Tackle some of the stress head-on with these tips on how to stay organized during the packing process.
and carry it with you. This might include a change of clothes, a towel, prescription drugs, a toothbrush and other personal items. In separate bags store plastic utensils, paper plates and cups, toilet paper, trash bags, snacks and beverages, a box cutter or utility knife, and anything else you might want.
In the long run, it pays to purchase appropriate moving supplies. Sturdy moving boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap, and packing peanuts can purchased at moving companies and truck-rental firms. In addition, clothing, blankets, and pillows can be used as buffers between breakable objects.
With millions of Americans moving each year, odds are that even the most organized person may forget something. Those “out of sight, out of mind” objects are at the highest risk of being left behind. According to Mayflower Transit, these 10 additional points should be added to every mover’s preparation list:
Approach your move with a plan. Pack up one room at a time, and include any essential information on the box that you may want to remember once you reach your new home. Keep track of your valuables with an inventory list to help organize all the items you’re moving. Have a copy on hand as you’re packing up your belongings and then place it in a safe place during the move. Once you begin the process of unpacking, use the inventory list to help account for your belongings. As you begin the process of packing your belongings into boxes, place heavy items in small boxes and light items in big boxes. Keep boxes to 50 pounds or less. Your back will thank you later! Use clean newsprint to wrap items and bubble wrap for padding. Breakables should be placed loosely in plastic storage bins, surrounded by lots of bubble wrap. Mark each box by room, so you know exactly where everything goes; color coding or using a number system works well (i.e. red stickers for the master bedroom or the number 1 for bathroom). Pack breakables such as dishes on edge, surrounded by bubble wrap. They will have a better chance of being unharmed in the bed of a bouncing truck. Write “Fragile” on boxes with breakables and stack them on top of the box of encyclopedias - not the other way around. On cartons containing essential items such as cooking utensils and toiletries, write “Open First.” Before the move, plan ahead for what you will need for the first night and day by packing essential items in a separate bag or suitcase

1. Obtain copies of family records, including dental and health information, as well as veterinarian records. Think ahead and transfer any current prescriptions to a drugstore in your new town. 2. Be sure to collect any valuables that have been hidden away in the house before leaving. Place these in a safe deposit box instead of packing them on the moving van. 3. Pack phone books from your existing residence to take with you. 4. Remember to collect all items that are being cleaned, stored, or repaired. Make sure to return any library books or movie rentals. 5. Keep your new address handy in your wallet or purse. 6. Leave out cleaning supplies for the final “once over” before closing the door to your old home. 7. Take the electric garage door opener out of your car before leaving town. 8. Plan ahead for the safe transfer of your pets and/or plants. 9. It’s a good idea to open a checking account in your new town prior to your move so that you will have immediate access to your funds. 10. Remember to retrieve all of your spare sets of house keys and leave for the new homeowners before you depart. Once you arrive at your destination and begin to unpack, sort boxes by content labels and identify one or two boxes in each room to open immediately. As you unpack the boxes, note any damaged or lost items and check the condition of each item. Empty boxes should be broken down and recycled along with packing materials. Once upon a bathroom wall a unique, refreshing, miracle took place. With some adhesive, grout, ceramic tile and a little love, an undesirable wall turned into a masterpiece. In fact the entire room was a place where one could retreat and be surrounded in beauty.
change with trims or boarders. There are also bathroom wall murals that make an attractive focal point for the room. For a dramatic touch use accent tiles between plain ceramic tiles for a fashionable statement. You may decide to have tiles custom made from digital designs you create.
The bathroom has become more of a sanctuary for most to either become refreshed for the day ahead or the final place where we relax before we hit the pillow. This room can have a calming effect or can produce an energizing atmosphere.
Always in style are earth tones and classic white. Either of these will give you an elegant appearance and reflects natural light. If your aim is for a Mediterranean or country decor, choose colors like peach and yellow that are lively and will give you that cozier feel. Blue, green and violet give you a tranquil or cool feel and reflect the shades of the ocean. Bold colors like red and black add intense drama and should be brought in through accent pieces. For a romantic look use a floral pattern in soft colors. For another approach place some tiles vertically and diagonally. You may also choose a grout color that contracts with the tile. If you wish to use the same color for the walls and floors use larger tiles for the floor and smaller tiles for the walls or vise versa. There are so many options it is literally endless.
It defiantly can be a mood enhancer. Just by the tile design, textures, shapes and colors that you choose for the overall effect. It sets the tone for the entire space. There are two varieties of tiles. They are porous and non porous tiles. It is best to use non porous tile for the bathroom. Bathroom wall tile serves a functional purpose as well as an aesthetic one. Wall tiles protect your walls from damage. You can place the tile almost everywhere in the room. Over bathroom vanities, shower, shower stalls and also on countertops. The fun part of bathroom tiling is choosing the tile design. Here is a list of the most popular materials for bathroom wall tile:
In years back it was said that you should use smaller tiles for a small space. We now know that you can use large tiles since you use less grout it makes the walls look less busy and adds space.
1. Ceramic tile is the most popular choice it can be glazed and fired in any color or design imaginable. It is very easy to clean and is water resistant. Its one downfall is that it can chip or break easily. 2. Stone tile can be the most expensive and difficult to install. It is water resistant and durable. You can find this in marble, granite, travertine or any other stone option. 3. Glass tile has become the next in popularity after ceramic tile. Most glass tiles come from recycled materials making this tile eco friendly. It comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors so working with it can be a design treat. 4. Mosaic tiles are the most elaborate, stunning and innovative designs whether it be of glass, ceramic, metal or a combination of all three. 5. Subway Tile is vintage imitation but simple and utilitarian and the perfect look for a contemporary design.
You must use a backing on the tile that will hold up to water and moisture. You should use a green drywall or cement backerboard for all wall tile design projects. My suggestion is if you do not feel completely confident doing this job yourself, call on a professional. What you do not want to happen is the risk of water damage down the road.
Once you have decided on which tile you will use, the next step is to choose the color, pattern, size and texture. Some textures they come in are matt, glossy, bumpy or unfilled travertine. For bathroom walls a glossy finish is preferred. Keep in mind that the bathroom need not be tiled from the top to the bottom. You may wish for a subtle

Jeff Gordon is a famous American race car driver who was born in 1971 in Vallejo, California. He has won the Nascar Winston Cup four times, and he drives car #24 for Hendrick Motorsports. As of this writing, one of his most prominent sponsors is DuPont. Jeff Gordon began racing when he was only five years of age. He loved to race cars, and his family was supportive of him. His family actually relocated primarily because they wanted Jeff to be in a location where he could better harness his racing skills. While he was still a minor, Jeff had already won a number of races and was given the USAC Midget Car Racing Rookie of the Year award. After this, Gordon went on to win the USAC Midget title, and by 1991, he had gained the USAC Silver Crown. He broke a record by being the youngest person to ever capture the title. He went to the Busch Series after this, and had a large number of victories. Gordon crashed his car during the the Hooters 500 race in Atlanta in 1992, and this caused him to be placed in the 31st position. Jeff Gordon was one of many young racers who would be placed on high quality teams early in their careers. The success of Jeff Gordon allowed a younger generation of racers to begin competing in Nascar. Many critics felt that Gordon was not ready to compete at the professional level because of his habit of racing cars so hard that he crashed them. However, Gordon proved them all wrong during the 1994 season, were he emerged victorious in the Lowe’s Motor Speedway, which was a long and difficult race. Gordon would also go on to win at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Brickyard 400. In 1995 he won what would become the first of four Winston Cup Championships. Jeff Gordon is also famous for rising up against the legendary Dale Earnhardt, and he has become a fan favorite. Many people consider Jeff Gordon to be one of the greatest drivers in Nascar because he achieved so much at a very young age. Even at 35 years of age, Jeff Gordon has successfully won 75 races, which is just one victory behind Dale Earnhardt. Jeff Gordon is also notable for making Nascar a popular sport with mainstream audiences. For a long time, the sport was only regulated to the south, but Jeff Gordon has allowed it to reach a high level of popularity due to advertising and his skills with the media. Defensive driving is a method of driving that can keep road traffic participants avoid an unfortunate event for as much as possible. The accidents are unpredictable happenings that can catch anyone off-guard when you least expect it. That’s why the simple, yet so overlooked prevention methods need to be taken into consideration before going on the road. Here there are. REGULARLY CHECK YOUR CAR’S CONDITION You car is a mechanism that needs oiling from time to time. You should give it regular inspections by professionals from an auto service in your area. Good maintenance of your car is imperative, as many accidents could have been avoided if the respective cars would have been in good shape. Aside from taking your car to an auto service from time to time, you should check its parameters every time before you go on the road. You should check the tires to see if there’s any danger of a flat tire, you should check the oil, water and gas levels, and so on. Your car is your means of transportation, so treat it with respect. DON’T DRIVE UNDER THE INFLUENCE I’m going to tell you a sad reality: one in seven road deaths happens because of driving under the influence. It could easily be taken out of the accident category, that’s how preventable it is. It’s sad to realize that so many persons could have been alive today if someone hadn’t been driving under the influence. I mean, is it so hard to restrain oneself from drinking when with the car? There’s even a solution for people who go to parties with the car. Go in group, and in turn specify an assigned driver. That’s the person who is not going to drink for the night, but the next time it will be a different one. Just don’t put lives in danger because of the alcohol. MAKE REGULAR EYE INSPECTIONS Good vision is necessary for a driver, I needn’t say that. You can’t get your driver’s license if you don’t pass the eye test. So, if you have eye problems, make sure you wear your glasses when you drive. You can take them off whenever you want the rest of the time, but when you drive just put them on. Make regular inspections of your eyes, because as you get older your vision may be affected. DON’T EXAGGERATE WITH THE SPEED Even if you have a clear road ahead, don’t exaggerate with the speed you’re cruising at. High speeds deliver the most devastating accidents, and it’s easy to see why. When too cars collide, the higher their speeds are, the greater the force that breaks them apart is. Also, when you are going at very high speeds and you also have distractions like cell phones or fog, it’s always easier to get involved in an accident because your brain can’t process fast enough the informational feedback it gets from the environment. FASTEN YOUR SEATBELT This simple yet so underestimated action could save your life. Always put it on and try to tighten it as much as you can. Many deaths happen because the driver didn’t fasten the seatbelt, and the lack of the seatbelt increases your chances of being involved in a fatal accident. DON’T TALK ON THE CELL PHONE WHILE DRIVING The cell phone is one of the leading causes of car accidents. This is because it distracts the driver from safe driving, and it causes lack of concentration. The road ahead is the thing that you should really be concentrating on. So, as a precaution measure, try to keep your cell phone conversations to a minimum when you are driving. BE CAREFUL AT NIGHT Driving at night is a lot more dangerous than during the day. Seeing that they have a clearer road ahead, many drivers think they can go as fast as they can. A recipe for disaster. At night time your vision is impaired, and consequently so are your reactions too. Driving at night is tricky, so be careful!
Happy Holidays!

These are just a few prevention methods that everyone should be aware of for safe driving. So many accidents are preventable, that you can’t help yourself from regretting that many drivers don’t respect this basic defensive driving advice. The Dodge Challenger was a car that was first released in the 1970s and at that time every teenage boy wanted one. Now however they are coming back and it seems that the love for the Dodge Challenger will start all over again. Due to be released in 2008 you can be sure that there will be a lot of people that will lose a few nights sleep as they start to get excited about the release of this legendary car. The Dodge Challenger secured a place in Americana car culture forever as the classic 1970s muscle car that every teenage boy wanted. There was always that one really cool guy in school that had rich parents and they bought him a Dodge Challenger, usually bright orange to draw even more attention to this fast car. Ladies flocked to the guy with the cool car and the guys wanted to be his friend, riding in the Dodge Challenger was a privilege and honor to most high school kids. Then there were always those guys that somehow got their hands on an older model Dodge Challenger or one that had been in an accident that they worked on in a garage for weeks on end to fix it up and hot rod it around campus. A concept of the 2007 Dodge Challenger was revealed at the North American International Auto Show recently and people went wild for it. Although it does not appear as though a Dodge Challenger will actually be available to the public in 2008, the 2007 Dodge concept was a spectacular sight. They even made it bright orange to remind the crowd of just what the Dodge Challenger had been nearly thirty years ago. The exterior may be the same as the 1970s version of the Dodge Challenger, but the 2007 Dodge concept Challenger had many differences under the hood and body. The new Dodge Challenger has a brand new platform that is also found in the Chrysler 300, Dodge Magnum and Dodge Charger. This LX platform is impressive from start to finish, as it is one of the most highly refined and responsive chassis available in any American manufactured automobiles. The importance of a solid underpinning, like the LX provides, is essential when handling the amount of horsepower generated by

Page 42
the famous Hemi performance engine. The 6.1-liter SRT8 models generate 425 horses and 420 pounds per foot of torque, which can be a lot for a driver to handle without a well-built chassis to support the power. The similarities in appearance between the old Dodge Challenger of the seventies and the new 2007 Dodge concept car are evident to event he amateur eye. However, the new version is slightly longer than the original, by nearly half of a foot and it is two inches wider. This does not seem to impact the stunning presentation of the nostalgic vehicle to most people because the overall look is still so cool. The updated mechanical features and power of the classic Dodge Challenger will only help to increase the likelihood of the cars success in the market in 2008 or whenever Chrysler decides to release it. The way things have been going in the automotive industry; Detroit could sure use the boost from a popular new car coming out of the once dominating car capital of the world. We will just have to wait and see how well the Dodge Challenger can comeback after three decades of hibernation, the challenge it on! Not everyone will remember these cars but we can all agree on one thing and that is that they were defiantly in need of a facelift. When they were first released they were new and looked perfect for that market. But now Dodge need to make sure that you do not look like you are driving a dust cart. Snowshoes as the name implies are footwears for walking over snow. Snowshoes distribute the weight of a person over a larger area so that the person’s foot does not sink completely into the snow. Traditional snowshoes are made of heavy hardwood frame with leather lacings. Modern high-tech snowshoes are made of light metal such as aluminum and alloy, or even of plastic. These modern snowshoes are raised at the toe for maneuverability and are generally smaller than the traditional snowshoes. Racing snowshoes and gliding snowshoes are just some examples of modern snowshoes used for movement in deep snow. Snowshoes were used some 6,000 years ago as an earliest form of transportation. But presently they are generally used for recreational sports. Snowshoes are divided into three types: aerobic, recreational and mountaineering. Backpacking or hiking snowshoes, recreational snowshoes, and running or aerobic fitness snowshoes are the more popular snowshoes available on the market. Snowshoe size is specified by the body weight and the type of activities one plans to do. The Outdoor Industry Foundation reported that in 2004 nearly 4.7 million Americans went snowshoeing. Snowshoeing at present is acknowledged as one of the fastest growing winter recreational sports next to skiing, so snowboarding snowshoe sale has doubled in recent year. The sales of snowshoes is up because people are putting greater emphasis on fitness, outdoor cross training and family recreation. The popularity of back country sporting in recent years, like skiing, snowboarding and ice climbing, is also helping to promote strong snowshoe sales.

Snowshoes for sale vary from shorter, wider shoes to longer, narrow shoes. Materials of these snowshoes are generally lightweight aluminum, rubber and durable plastic. Women’s snowshoes and kids snowshoes are of varied shapes. For example, beaver tail snowshoes are shaped like a tennis racket and bear paw snowshoes are oval shaped. These shapes enable the snowshoer to lift up the shoes’ weight easily. Cleats are the teeth present at the bottom of the shoes that provide traction and allow for more confident stepping. Kids snowshoes are not limited just to kids; they can be used by anyone weighing less than 80 pounds and of shorter height. Kids snowshoes can also be used by children for off trail hiking, on golf courses, in packed trails, etc. A low impact workout with a pair of snowshoes provides many health benefits. Snowshoes can be used by folks of all ages who enjoy a winter snowfall while walking, running, jumping, or climbing. Snowshoes are great fun to use in any type of snow conditions. Just imagine racing down a snow-covered hill, cold wind blowing in your face, your warm, wool scarf fluttering behind you. You are bouncing up and down, trying to keep yourself on course, but occasionally drifting off to the side. You feel like flying. Sledding is one of the best forms of recreation for a snowy day.
Recreational Vehicles
Sledding has been around for hundreds of years and is one of the oldest winter sports. Descriptions of sledding can be found dating back to the 1500s. But it was not until 1885 that the first official sledding race, the Grand National, was held in Switzerland. Sleds come in all sizes and shapes and are made from a variety of materials, including metal, plastic, wood, and even rubber. A straight running sled is the most basic kind of modern-day sled. Most are made of plastic and are fast and easy to steer. Some even come with their own brakes and steering wheels. The most recognized kind of sled is a steel runner sled. These are the wood and metal sleds that you usually see in pictures and have been around for a long period of time. Another type of sled is round, and its name sounds like it could be found in outer space. It’s called a saucer sled. Saucer sleds let you spin and turn. But you better be careful. Since they do not let you steer, you might just be going backwards, sideways, or off the path altogether before you realize it. Also, snow tubes are round. They are filled with air and can also be used for floating in a pool or lake. Snow tubes let you bounce as you go over bumps, but they do not give you much control. When filling these kinds of sleds with air, remember not to fill them too full. If you do, there is the risk of them bursting in front of your eyes! Remember that not all sheds can be bought in stores. A flattened cardboard box or garbage can lid can work just as well. Take your kids, your friends or just yourself and sled away when you have a chance. The feeling of being back to nature can be better conceptualized when experienced, so do not waste time or procrastinate. Sledding is one of the best exercises you body and mind can enjoy. The best part of sledding is that you can watch your friends and family smiling at your or their snow adventures! What color is a horse? The words for a horse’s coat color have very specific meanings. A bay horse has a body coat that is a shade of brown with black legs, mane, and tail. Within the bay group, there are blood bays which is a more dark reddish shade of brown and bright bays which can look a golden brown. There are also black bays, which might appear to most people as a black horse. Truly black horses are a more rare color.
Most horses that you might think look black are black bays, which is a very dark brown. You will see lighter colored hair between the hind legs and tummy area and around the muzzle. This makes them black bays instead of black horses. People also call this seal brown. A chestnut horse has a coat that is a shade of red, while the legs, mane, and tail may be lighter or darker than the body, or the same color, but never black. A chestnut horse can be any shade of red, reddish-brown, or orangey-red. A very dark brownish red with no black on the legs, mane, or tail is known as liver chestnut. It is a more rare color. Sorrel is another word for a light chestnut color. Grey horses have black skin with white or gray hair. A grey horse might look white, but if its skin is dark, it is a grey. Grey horses are born a dark color, such as black or brown, and their coat grows lighter as they grow older. There are light grey, dapple grey, flea-bitten grey, and steel grey variations in coloring. A white horse must have pink

skin, which is more rare than grey horses. Dun horses have a sandy yellow to reddish brown coat. Their legs are usually darker than their body and they sometimes have faint zebra stripes on their legs. Dun horses always have a dark stripe down the middle of their back along their back bone, known as a dorsal stripe. Sometimes the dorsal stripe continues down the horse’s tail and through the mane. Many dun colored horses also have face masking, which makes the horse’s nose and sometimes the rest of the face a darker color than the horse’s body. A buckskin horse has a sandy yellow or tan color with black legs, mane, and tails. Buckskins are similar looking to duns, except that buckskins do not have a dorsal stripe or other primitive markings that are seen in duns. Palomino horses have gold-colored coat with a white or light cream colored mane and tail. A palomino coat can range from a light off-white shade to a deep shade of gold. Roan horses have white hairs mixed with a body color to produce blue roan, which is roan mixed with black, red roan, which is roan and bay, and strawberry or rose roan, which roan and chestnut. There are other white body markings and spots that can affect the horse color to be a Paint or an Appaloosa, which also have breed registries just for them. (We’ll save those topics for another article.) So next time you see a brown or black horse, look carefully - What color is the horse?
