Getting to Know You It is September and most children and teachers have now returned to school. Over the past few weeks I have heard several teachers talk about their return to the classroom. One said to me, ―Whew, I have forgotten what it is like on the first day. It took me an hour to unpack their book bags.‖ I can fully relate to this teacher’s statement and I know you can relate as well. After eight years of serving the East Marion Circuit, I too had forgotten what it was like to start over again. After six years with Aaron as your pastor and spiritual leader, you too have forgotten what it was like to start over again. Part of the frustration of starting over is the time it takes to get to know one another. I would like for us to get to know one another better. I grew up in Indiana and my family still lives there. My mother, Meriam, lives on the west side of Indianapolis. My brother, Mark, lives on the north side of Indianapolis. Mark and his wife, Debbie, have two sons, Brent and Austin. I am a graduate of Indiana University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Telecommunications, specializing in Video Production. I am also a graduate of the FAA Air Traffic Academy in Oklahoma City. My Master’s of Divinity degree is from Duke Divinity School. I am in my fourteenth year in the ministry. I have served one year at the Campground Parish here in the Kingsport District, four years at Newbern-Mountain View in the Wytheville District, and eight years at the East Marion Circuit in the Abingdon District. I have served on the Wesley Foundation Board of Directors at Radford University, as Minister in Residence at Camp Dickenson, Camp Ahistadi and Buffalo Mountain, served as Camp Committee Chair and Program Director at Camp Ahistadi, served on the Conference Camping and Retreat Board, and served on the Board of Directors for Project Crossroads. Beginning in January, I will serve on the Buffalo Mountain Board. I am an avid basketball fan. I will watch any college game, but prefer to watch Duke, Indiana and Lady Vols. For the past seven years, I have volunteered as a referee for Upward Basketball. I also enjoy softball. In years past, I have played on several teams. I have not played as much in the past few years. Last year, I was ready to give up my softball swing and bought a set of golf clubs. I am learning to play golf, but still having a lot of difficulty with the difference in the swing. I love to get away and experience God and God’s creation. I enjoy photography and you will see me at most church functions with a camera in my hand. You will find me and my dog, Scout, residing at 1917 Northwood Place. The parsonage telephone number remains 423-246-6862. My cell number is 423-967-5365. Feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]. My birthday is November 30, 196?. Now that you have learned more about me, I would like to learn more about you. Please fill out the information sheet found in this newsletter (or the September bulletins). This information will not only help me learn more about you, it will also help the records in the office as I look for things there. It would also be very helpful if you would give the name in which you would be registered at the hospital. This way I will be sure to get the information, should I need it. Thanks for your help as we start over and get to know one another. Grace and Peace, Pastor Donna
