Tight Times It seems as though everywhere you look, people are trying to “tighten up.” Paying off debt, getting rid of the non-essentials, and watching spending. If only our government did the same! Jewelie and I are planning on attending the Billy Graham Evangelism Conference in May and noticed that even the BGEA (Billy Graham Evangelistic Association) was having to lay off 10 percent of its’ staff due to giving problems. You know times are tough if even Billy Graham starts cutting back! Just to let you know, we’ve been watching our spending at the church too. There are lots of things that we currently need, but are having to put off because we know times are tight. If you’ve noticed the ink streaks in our publications… It’s because our copier is on its’ last legs, the folding of bulletins, newsletters, etc. is all done by hand (because the folder eats more than it folds), and we’re babying the church van as much as possible as it nears 100k miles. The thermostats. lights, etc. are constantly checked, and when the budget committee meets in June, I am going to recommend a budget “freeze,” meaning no spending increases for the next fiscal year. I say all of this to let you know that as your Pastor, I don’t believe it’s appropriate to ask all of you to sacrifice in tough times from the pulpit if we are not willing to do the same here at the church house. Even the conference that Jewelie and I will be attending in May will be on scholarship with very little cost to the church. Every week we need to bring in at least $2000 to meet expenses. Even though our debt is gone (PTL), we still need to meet our basic obligations. Let’s face it… We spend money on the things that are most important to us, and I can think of no greater cause than the CAUSE OF CHRIST! If we give sacrificially, and are good stewards with what HE has provided us with, He WILL honor our efforts!

Night With Bill Saye The Morgan County Ministerial Fellowship will host “A Night with Bill Saye” at the Community Center Friday, May 8th at 7 PM. Bill was a runaway at age 12, a gang leader by 14, was involved with organized crime, shot twice, his wife was killed, children kidnapped, ran a five-state prostitution ring, and later became the head of the largest drug organization of its type in the USA. He was a multimillionaire and thought he had it all until his “kingdom” came to an end in 1980 after being arrested for first-degree murder. While in prison, September of 1982, he picked up a Gideon New Testament and gave his life to Jesus. Because of a dramatic change of events, Bill was granted a pardon in 1985 and has been preaching ever since. You do not want to miss this event! Everyone is welcome!

See You In Church Sunday!

First off, thanks to everyone who helped with the Spaghetti Dinner. We had a great turn out of help from adult sponsors and the students, and I have to say even the left-overs from the next day were really good! I think it was one of the best tasting Spaghetti Dinners that we have had! Thanks for all your support! We raised about $350. Expect more of these fundraisers before the summer is over with. We might even branch out next time and try something different. Remember we have a Sign-Up sheet & paperwork for MOVE (CIY) in the basement. Also, as a side note, Rachel and I are not moving. In the last newsletter I said that we are going to MOVE. MOVE is the new name of the summer conference we go to every year affiliated with CIY (Christ In Youth). Some people asked Rachel if we were moving away last week, so I just wanted to clear that up! Also we have had quite a few people say they want to be involved with Relay for Life. If you are interested please let me know. The event is scheduled for June 5th. I know graduation has been scheduled for that evening, but the event lasts all night, so come join us afterwards. It’s a great thing, and the
