balance Defn:
Balance is the ability to control the cog over the bos in a given sensory environment.
Balance is a complex process involving the reception and organisation of sensory inputs and the planning & execution of movement to achieve a goal requiring upright posture. ref
Key terms: • • COM • COG • BOS • LOS • GRF • COP
BALANCE >Balance is ability to maintain body’s position against the pressure of movement. It requires a number of skills operating together our sense of equilibrium has a tailor with our proprioception or awareness of the relative positions of the parts of our body.
> Balance is the set of functions which maintains man’s upright during stance and locomotion by detecting and correcting displacement of the line of gravity beyond the BOS.
Control of balance
• Reactive control- in response to external forces (perturbation). • • Proactive control – in anticipation of internal forces imposed on the body’s own movements.
