Still Confused? Yes, how do I decide which B-schools I should apply to?

We care for your Career

FAQs 1. How many B-schools I should apply to? - Depends on your budget - Suggested number: 10 -12 - Apply to B-schools in more than one ‘band’ 2. Authenticity of Surveys done by different publications? - Sample Size - Non-participation of institutes - Low knowledge of people involved 3. How is B-school ‘X’?

We care for your Career

FAQs ( Contd.. ) 4. How to check B-school claims - Personal visit, websites, not just companies but salaries & designations too! 5. I need minimum Rs ‘X’ per month. Which Bschool will guarantee me this? - Take-home or CTC? - Are you looking at the MBA only from shortterm or long term perspective? 6. Salary statistics: Average, Highest, Lowest – Should I believe in the figures quoted in the media? - Check ‘Mandatory Disclosure’ We care for your Career

FAQs ( Contd.. ) 7. Institutes not having ‘min 50%’ criteria? - Hold your breath, it’s coming! 8. Any good ‘MAT’ institutes? - Unfortunately not many, pl. wait till we get into B-school ranking! 9. ( Rs 17 L at ISB ) - Bank loans are easily available at good B-schools 13. Should I apply only to those near Delhi since I do not wish to stay far away from home? -NO 14. Since CAT / IIFT is difficult, should I apply only to those B-schools that use other tests like MAT? -NO We care for your Career

Some more Guidelines?

Rules of Thumb..1

Ease of Admission

1. Tougher to get admission → better is the B-school ( Reverse is also true! )

Low

Quality of B-School →

high

Rules of Thumb..2

Quality of Students

2. While you ‘naturally’ want to get into the best Bschool, they also want the ‘best’ of the students!

Low Low

Quality of B-School →

high

Rules of Thumb..3 3. ‘Normal distribution’ of salary takes place at each & every B-school, including IIMs.

N U M B E R S Salary → Even at an IIM, if you are at the bottom, your salary will not be an envy of many people!

Rules of Thumb..4 4. Most of the times, quality of B-school is inversely proportional to the size of the Ads! Did you understand this one?

Rules of Thumb..5

5. When in doubt,

Some Common Refrains • I can’t waste one year, so I should join whichever B-school admits me. • If I do not crack CAT this year, it means I am incapable of cracking it. • Since I have a ‘gap’ year, I cannot make it to a good B-school. • All ‘CAT’ institutes are better than all ‘MAT’ institutes. • Since work experience can give me an edge, I should get a ‘fake’ experience certificate to enhance my chances of success.

Last Words … • Selecting a B-school for yourself is possibly one of the most important decisions in your life, … almost as important as getting married. • Would you therefore go by what others say … or invest enough time and efforts in deciding which B-school to join? • Why not visit the B-school yourself, speak to the students, faculty members and decide … Whether you like to spend your two years there? Invest enough time & efforts before deciding

Institute Ranking How do we do it? 3. Inputs from T.I.M.E. students across the country 4. Discussions amongst all T.I.M.E. centres 5. Reviewed every year
