Conflict 1

Amanda’s father did not give approval for the relationship between Dawson and Amanda.

“Never once was Dawson allowed into their home, and the only time her father ever spoke to him he called Dawson “a worthless piece of white trash.” Her mother begged Amanda to end it, and by December her father had stopped speaking to her altogether.” (pp.29-30)

Temporary Solution

Initially Dawson and Amanda maintained their relationship even though they were not approved by Amanda’s father. But in the end they decided to separate for the future of Amanda.

“The hostility surrounding them only drew Amanda and Dawson closer together, and when Dawson began to take her hand in public, Amanda held tight, daring anyone to tell her to let go.” (pp.30) ““I’m just trying to be realistic. This is your life we’re talking about. Conflict 2

Dawson crash Dr. David Bonner to death.

“…she learned, that her husband had been killed when the driver of a truck lost control and skidded into him.” (pp.57) “The driver, who would soon be charged with felony death by motor vehicle and involuntary manslaughter,

was eighteen years old and already in handcuffs. His name was Dawson Cole.” (pp.57)

Temporary Solution

Dawson has found guilty and received the maximum punishment in prison.

“Against the advice of the public defender, Dawson pleaded guilty, and against the advice of the prosecutor, he was given the maximum sentence.” (pp.58)

Conflict 3

Dawson hates his father while in prison. After being placed in Oriental Dawson get fights with his father and Ted.

““You thought you was better than me, but you ain’t. You’re just like me.”” (pp.58) “Dawson said nothing, feeling something close to hatred as he glared at his father from the corner of his cell. He vowed then and there that whatever happened, he would never speak to his father again.” (pp.58) “When Dawson told them to get off the property, Ted moved quickly but not quick enough…” (pp.59) “He broke Ted’s nose and jaw with a crowbar and disarmed his father before cracking the old man’s ribs.” (pp.59)

Temporary Solution

Dawson lefts Oriental when his parole ended.

“…he counted the days until he would finally be able to leave Oriental, and when his parole ended…” (pp.60)

Conflict 4

Dawson returned to a relationship with Amanda and Amanda’s position was the wife of Frank, so they had an affair. They kiss and sleep together.

“She could feel his desire as well, and with a movement that seemed almost preordained, she kissed him once more before leading him to the bedroom.” (pp.239) ““Not at all. Why would I be upset?” He leaned over then, kissing her tenderly before slowly drawing back.” (pp.245)

““I love you, Dawson Cole.”” (pp.248) ““I know,” he said, gently sliding his arm around her waist. “I love you, too.”” (pp.248) Temporary Solution

Amanda hides the proof of love with Dawson and lies to Frank, Amanda thinks everything will be fine.

Dawson saw Amanda’s mother and he had grown tense. Amanda’s mother tried to advise Amanda because she was a married woman.

“She vaguely noticed that Dawson had grown tense.” (pp.251) ““What would you call it? You’re a married woman.”” (pp.257) “She paused. “There are always consequences, Amanda. You’re old enough to know that. Do you really need me to remind you?”” (pp.258)

Temporary Solution

Dawson and Amanda decided to separate, even though Amanda was not sincere with the decision

“…You were my best friend, my best self, and I can’t imagine giving that up again.”” (pp.264) “Breaking up her family would change everything; it would change her, and though it scared him…” (pp.265) ““All right,” he finally whispered. Identify Dawson is a man who came from the Cole family who is known to often commit criminality. Dawson work on oil rig. He had an accident while caused him to diagnosed a moderate concussion. While sick, he felt watched by someone and made him feel haunted. After that he experienced a flat life after an accident.

Proof “The Coles were moonshiners and drug dealers, alcoholics, wife beaters, abusive fathers and mothers, thieves and pimps, and above all, pathologically violent.” (pp.20) “In the fourteen years he’d worked on oil rigs…” (pp.10) “He had a vague memory of falling toward the water, a fall that for all intents and purposes should have killed him.” (pp.11) “…he was later diagnosed with a moderate concussion…” (pp.12) “He’d had trouble sleeping since the explosion, not because of any nightmares but because he couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched. He felt… haunted, as ridiculous as that sounded” (pp.13) “It had a single bedroom and bath, a cramped living area, and a kitchen with barely enough room to house a mini refrigerator.” (pp.14)

Dawson saw Amanda’s mother and he had grown tense. Amanda’s mother tried to advise Amanda because she was a married woman.

Resolution/ Denouement

Amanda remind that who helped Alan was Dawson as well as being a donor for her son, Jared. Although not together, Amanda can feel his heartbeat through her son.
