CLASS NEWS WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO? In math, we continued Unit 2 which focuses on perimeter and area. Students explored the relationships between triangles and parallelograms and used this to help them determine the formula for finding the area. We also practiced finding the area and perimeter of more complex geometric shapes. Look for updated math links on the class website that are directly related to our math curriculum. We will wrap up this unit next week before we head off to camp. In our current IB planner, students are focusing their inquiry on Environments. The central idea of this planner is that all living things depend on the conditions in their environment. This week we jumped into our brand new Social Studies curriculum and learned how American Indians adapted to different environments when they settled here. The summative assessment for this unit will be explained next week and completed before Thanksgiving break. In literacy, we continued our first book club. Our class is reading Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. Students worked on making connections to the story this week. In spelling, our words focused on the /oo/ sound. Remind students to study their word lists at home or on www.spellingcity.com. In Spanish this week, Senorita Leon explained the ‘Day of the Dead’. Students were very interested and had many questions. Students do have homework for Spanish that will be due on Tuesday.
CAMP We head off to camp next Thursday, November 12th . A packing list was sent home with your child last week. We are getting very excited for our camp experience this year!
