FUNDRAISERS Innisbrook orders are due on Monday, October 5. This is a fundraiser that raises money for our school. Be on the lookout for information coming home soon regarding our 5th grade fundraiser. This fundraiser is set up to help students raise money for their overnight camp trip in November.
CLASS NEWS October 2 – October 9 WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO? This week we started Unit 1 in math. This unit focuses on multiplication and division word problems. We worked on problems with combinations and used tree diagrams to figure out and display the solutions. We also discussed comparison problems and wrote our own word problems using multiplication and division. We continued working with our IB Planner, titled The Human Machine. This week we focused our inquiry on the circulatory system, the cardiovascular system, and the respiratory system. We made a model of what happens when we breathe using a plastic bottle and balloons. We also talked about clogged arteries and the job our heart has in our body. We also located our pulse and measured our heart rate after doing some physical activity. We were even lucky enough to hear our own heart beating using a stethoscope! Next week, our inquiry will focus on bones and muscles. In spelling we focused on words with the long e and long u sound. Please remember that all of our spelling work is done at school, but we encourage students to study and practice at home. A great website for practice and games with our spelling words is www.spellingcity.com. Dr. Moore, our school psychologist, also visited our classroom and talked about bullying. She will be back once a week until Thanksgiving break to discuss bullying and friendships.
CAMP FORMS Camp forms went home this week. It is very important that those forms are returned as soon as possible. Our 5th grade fundraiser for camp will be starting soon. ART LEADERS NEEDED!
IB Planner – The Human Machine
Our classroom still needs an art leader for art enrichment. Please contact me if you are interested. Art orientation will be on Thursday, October 8 from 4-5pm in the Media Center. All leaders, assistants, and helpers are welcome to attend! Childcare will be available.
SUPPLIES NEEDED! We have a class set of whiteboards to use, but very few dry erase markers. If you would be willing to donate any dry erase markers to our classroom that would be great! Thanks!!
