CURRICULUM NIGHT We would like thank those of you who attended Curriculum Night on Wednesday. We were happy to see and meet many 5th grade parents and guardians! Parents who did not attend should have received materials we went over from their child on Thursday.

CLASS NEWS September 28 – October 2 WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO? This week we continued working on fluency and computation in math. We learned different strategies to help us with our multiplication and division facts. One strategy we practiced was breaking apart a problem into two simpler problems. Continue to look for math homework on a daily basis. Next week we will start Unit 1, which focuses on multiplication and division word problems. We continued working with our IB Planner, titled The Human Machine. This week we focused our inquiry on the digestive system. We measured the approximate length of our digestive system and were quite surprised with the result! We also built models demonstrating peristalsis, which is how our food moves down into our stomach. Next week, we will focus our inquiry on our heart and lungs. In spelling we focused on words with the long a sound. Please remember that all of our spelling work is done at school, but we encourage students to study and practice at home. A great website for practice and games with our spelling words is www.spellingcity.com. We also started Spanish this week with Senorita Leon. We are excited to continue seeing her and working on Spanish every three days. Next week we will wrap up our MAP testing for the fall and also have picture day. Also be on the lookout for important forms coming home regarding our overnight Camp trip in November.

PATROL UPDATE The black team will start duty next week and will continue their duties until our MEA break in October. Please check the schedule carefully! Remember to get your homework in on time or else you will receive a demerit!
