Now, Bill and Kathy will be sharing information about our program at the annual MHHA Institute with senior care facilities across the state so that other organizations can receive more detail about the program. Thank you Bill and Kathy for this contribution and for improving care in this challenging area.

Memories of God Program Recognized at Institute

Winona Health Chaplains, Bill F. and Kathy R. will be doing a presentation at the Minnesota Health and Housing Alliance (MHHA) this month about our ‘Memories of God’ program. This program is the one that was rooted in the “Godly Play” program used in Churches for educating children about Bible stories. Bill and Kathy adapted it to suit our memory challenged residents and it is in use in LWM, Adith Miller Manor and Roger Metz Manor. Our start up was funded by a Winona Health foundation grant. The program was published in Future Age, July/Aug 07, in the “Ideas and Innovations” section. This publication is distributed across the nation to senior providers and vendors.

Meeting of the Minds: The Dementia Conference 2008 is the most comprehensive and prestigious dementia conference in the upper Midwest sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association Chapter and Mayo Clinic. Uniquely, persons with early dementia, families, physicians and allied professionals come together for this day of education, sharing and support. On March 29th at the RiverCentre in St. Paul hear cutting edge research, engage in keynote addresses and visit exhibits and displays. The Food and Nutrition department prepare meals to go along with the themes, decorate the dining room and dress up to add to the event. Last month, residents were taken back to the ol’ west for Western Day. Julie Decker, F&N supervisor, take a moment to pose for a photo (below).

Congratulations to Mae who is the exercise punch winner for January! If you are interested in participating in an outing, but you have limited mobility, please see Jake. He will be more than happy to transport you in a wheelchair. This is a great option if you have recently returned from a hospital stay and are not quite up to your normal physical activity. Diana, WSU volunteer, is back from vacation and will continue with her weekly craft and manicure group. Jake is on the move! Jake will be moving his office to another office in the lower level of Watkins Manor that will be much closer to the recreation room. This move will allow Jake to be closer to the recreation room and be easier accessible to all the residents. Staff will begin the process of working on the Great Dining Room Arrival! We will be evaluating the process and flow of when residents arrive in the dining room - especially the second seating residents. It is our goal to be as efficient as possible and making your dining experience enjoyable. Stay tuned for more details!
