Tutorial Notes: Week 1 Unit: HLTH2203 Physical Performance Lab Sport: Cricket Week: 1 Activity 1 - Warm Up – Ball Handling Routine Learners: - Notre Dame students will be developing skills and abilities of cricket Equipment: - 1 x ball per student and 4 x cones per square Space: - 5x5m squares Time: - 1-2 minutes per drill Instructions - The activity is a variation of warm up drills: passing ball for Activity around body, figure 8 - Everyone uses a ball suited to their ability - Students spread out within a designated square Variations - Use a bean bag instead of a ball and - Make drill harder or easier for different skill levels of Progressions students KTP’s 1. Activity 2 – Warm up – Snowball Tag Learners: - Notre Dame students will be developing skills and abilities of cricket Equipment: - 5 x balls per grid and 4 x cones per grid Space: - 10x10m squares Time: - 10 minutes Instructions - The activity is a variation of tag, nominate 1 student to be for Activity a tagger - Rest of students spread out in the grid - All the bean bags start in the corner of the grid - The aim of the tagger is to tag their peers by hitting them with a bean bag below the shoulders, with an underarm throw - Students who are caught become taggers - Last student not tagged is the winner Variations - Change bean bags to balls and - Make multiple grids for bigger groups Progressions - Implement a time limit - KTP’s 1. Activity 3 – Fielding – Catching Fundamentals Learners: - Notre Dame students will be developing skills and abilities of cricket Equipment: - 1 x ball per pair, 4 x cones Space: - 10x10m Time: - 10 minutes Instructions - Students are put into pairs, with a ball between two for Activity - Students stand 3 meters apart from their partner - Pairs complete a number of drills; rolling, underarm throw, overarm throw Variations - Increase or decrease distance between pairs depending and on skill level Progressions KTP’s 1. Step, stretch and swing 2. Step, point and follow through 3. Step forward on opposite foot to throwing arm Diagram Images created from Sportplan (2019) Activity 4 – Fielding – Target Throwing Learners: - Notre Dame students will be developing skills and abilities of cricket Equipment: - 1 x ball per pair, 4 x cones and 1 tee per pair Space: - 10x10m Time: - 10 minutes Instructions - Students are kept in the same pairs as the previous drill for Activity - Pairs stand 3 meters apart from one another, with 1

partner holding a ball Students aim to hit the tee in between them Variations - Increase or decrease distance between pairs depending and on skill level Progressions - Add a scoring system KTP’s 1. Follow through Diagram Images created from Sportplan (2019) Activity 5 – Bowling – Target Bowling Learners: - Notre Dame students will be developing skills and abilities of cricket, specifically bowling Equipment: - 1 x ball per pair, 4 x cones and 1 x wicket per pair Space: - 10x10m Time: - 10 minutes Instructions - Students remain in pairs, with 1 ball and wicket keeper for Activity per partner - One partner at a time, students aim to hit the wickets using a bowling technique, ensuring to bounce the ball once - The other partner collects the ball and uses an overarm throw to return it back to their partner - Swap roles Variations - Change distance between pairs depending of skill level, and more for advanced and less distance for weaker students -
