PHONICS
AGE : 3 – 5 YEARS OLD
Are learning to read in their own language.
Are learning to understand and speak English with songs, stories and games.
Starting to recognize the sounds that letters make in English and beginning to read simple individual words.
STARTING TO READ
They will use their knowledge of phonics to help them sound words out.
It also helps the children to work out new words as they read them.
For an example, the word cat has three letters ( c, a , t ).
If the child knows the sound for each letters c, a, and t, they can put them together to read the word cat.
SIGHT WORD
Age 6 and above
start teaching him the sounds that each letter makes.
Jumping right in to sight words can be confusing if your child doesn’t understand the sounds that go along with each letter.
start with some easy sight words.
keep reading to him his favorite stories, so he can see those words in action
