CALLING ALL KNITTERS AND CROCHETERS
Wellspring is forming a prayer shawl ministry as part of our newly formed Prayer Ministry. Over the centuries, shawls have come to symbolize shelter and spiritual comfort, and they provide tangible evidence of our love and prayers. We would like to provide them for those in our church family who are critically ill, facing surgery, grieving, in nursing homes or extended care facilities, to name just a few. If you think you would like to be a part of this ministry, come and meet at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 13th, in the Munch and Mingle area. We’ll share ideas, patterns and ways to get started on this unique ministry. For those who are interested in supporting the shawl ministry but haven’t learned to knit or crochet, come and we’ll teach you, or perhaps a donation to help cover the cost of yarn would be more appealing and most appreciated. For questions or more information, call Nancy Yerks at (512) 869-5105.
“Thank You” to our greeters for doing a fantastic job on welcoming members and visitors during Sunday morning worship.
YOUTH WEEK is coming! Youth week is held towards the end of each summer. It's a time for having a little fun before school starts, fellowship with other youth and their friends, and most importantly, it's an opportunity to assimilate incoming youth (6th graders to be) into the youth group. This year we have many special activities planned but we are looking for some Wellspring members (outside of the youth family) who may want to host the youth for a short time period on the evening of Friday, August 14. We are planning a progressive dinner evening where the youth will go, as a group, to a member’s home for a "drink", then travel together to the next host home for "appetizers", then dinner, dessert, etc. This is an opportunity for members of Wellspring to get to know some of the youth and for the youth to get to know you. And, as always, the youth love to eat! If you are interested in taking part in the evening activity and providing some part of a meal for and getting to know the youth, please contact Nancy Schutz at home 863-6973, cell 512-217-2137.
Wellspring Prayer Ministry In Matthew 21:23, Jesus says, “My House shall be called a House of Prayer.” What does that mean to us today? Prayer is communication with God through worship, meditation, requests, intercession, listening and thanksgiving. Prayer supports and empowers all ministries of the church. It is the conduit that connects us to God and opens up the possibilities of direction and understanding. As a House of Prayer, we invite the presence of God through the Holy Spirit to be in and among us as we seek God’s direction and will for Wellspring. For a number of years, Marge Troublefield has faithfully provided a weekly listing of the intercessory prayer requests of members and friends of Wellspring. A large number of people pray over that list on a daily basis. Requests can be submitted on the prayer request cards, on the registration pads as they are circulated each Sunday morning, or by calling Marge at 869-4298. Recently a prayer ministry team began meeting on Thursday morning from 10-11 a.m. in the Chapel. We pray for our church, our pastors, our committees and programs and their leaders, our children and youth, our members and visitors. We also pray for the needs of our community and the world. If you feel led by the Holy Spirit to be a part of the prayer ministry, we would love to have you. Now we are adding two new components to the prayer ministry. Prayer shawls under the direction of Nancy Yerks. (See Nancy’s article for an upcoming meeting for volunteers). Under the direction of Mollie Crane, we are praying in the Chapel before each worship service on Sunday morning. Mollie would welcome anyone who is interested in praying before a service or services to give her a call as she is setting up a schedule. Did you know that the Chapel is open Monday – Thursday 8:30-5:00 pm, and Friday 8:30-2:00 pm? Our hope is that at some point, someone would be praying in the Chapel continuously during these hours. Prayer is an expectation of Christ for the Church. Jesus said, “and when you pray” in Matthew 6:5, not if you pray. When we pray, we offer ourselves to God and we are drawn closer to God. Through prayer we receive God’s will for us (Matthew 7:7) and prayer is a means to bring the Holy Spirit into the Church (Jude 20). If you are interested in hearing more about the Prayer Ministry or want to become part of it, please contact Nancy Yerks 869-5105, Mollie Crane 864-0898, or Rev. Carol Hoke 869-1948.

Wellspring Meals On Wheels Summer is a terrible time to ask for help, but Meals On Wheels needs YOUR help. As you know, Wellspring participates with 11 other churches in providing 175 meals per day to folks in Georgetown. Wellspring provides drivers every 10 weeks for 9 routes throughout the city. Sun City, in particular, has had a huge growth in need so we now have 2 routes just in Sun City. We like to have 2 people per route which means we need 18 people for August 10th - August 14. Wellspring has had faithful drivers and participants for many years and we hope they continue, but due to travel and health issues we have lost some of our drivers. Here is my prayerful request. Please volunteer to help. You will be trained in what is expected. It takes approximately 1-1/2 hours from 10:30 - 12:00 to complete a route, and you definitely get more than you give. These people need our help to supply them with one warm, healthy meal a day. Please give this a priority to do. Please call me at 869-2826 for more information and to help. Blessings, Sally Winslow

Pour into pie crust and decorate w/pecan halves lined close to crust around the perimeter. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Turn off oven after an hour leaving pie in the oven to finish baking and cool down. Serves 8-12. Sallia’s Key Lime Pie with Chocolate Cookie Crust
1-9oz. packages chocolate wafer cookies (You can also use a purchased pie crust.) ½ cup butter, melted ¼ cup chopped pecans or walnuts, optional 3-8oz. packages cream cheese, softened 1 ½ cup sugar 2 t. key lime zest, finely chopped ½ cup fresh key lime juice (1 key lime yields about 2 t. juice) 3 large eggs
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Crush chocolate cookies in food processor using pulse button until it has a fine texture. Combine crumbs w/butter, firmly pressing mixture onto the bottom and up the sides of a 9-10” pie plate forming a solid crust. Beat cream cheese & sugar at medium speed w/a mixer until blended. Add juice & zest, beating at low speed until well blended. Add eggs, one at a time, beating just until the yellow disappears after each addition. Spoon mixture into pie shell. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until filling is set. (A spot the size of a half dollar will still be shiny in the center.) Cool on wire rack until cool to touch. Cover and chill at least 4 hrs. Garnish w/whipped cream & chocolate shavings if desired. Serves 8-10.
Fern’s Apple Pie Crust: 4 cups flour 1/34 cups shortening 1 T. sugar 1 ½ t. salt 1 T. vinegar 1 egg ½ cup water Mix first four ingredients w/fork or pastry blender. In a separate bowl, beat vinegar, egg & water. Add to flour mixture w/fork until all ingredients are moistened. Mold dough into a ball and chill for 15 minutes before rolling into shape. This can be refrigerated for four to five days or frozen until ready to use. Line one 9” pie pan w/ pastry, then roll out the top crust to have it ready. Cut four-five small slits in the top crust for vents before baking pie. Filling: 4 large tart apples 2 large sweet apples 1 cup sugar 3 T. flour ¾ t. cinnamon ¼ t. nutmeg ¼ t. coriander 1/8 t. salt 2 T. butter 2 T. lemon juice ¼ cup water Pare apples & slice thin, put into large cooking pan. In a bowl, combine sugar, flour & spices. Mix w/apples in pan. Add butter, lemon juice & water. Cover and cook over medium to low heat, stirring often, so apples don’t stick to bottom of pan. Cook until almost tender. Cool 10-15 minutes before adding filling to crust. Cover w/ top crust, seal edges and sprinkle w/sugar. Bake at 400 degrees for 30-40 minutes until crust is brown enough. Serves 8-10.
