ZNY Watch Desk advised ZDC Watch Desk of possible HIJACK regarding AAL11 - will call back

ZNY Watch Desk called ZDC Watch Desk advising terrorist activity confirmed on onboard AAL11; aircraft was confirmed at FL290 by another aircraft; transponder had been turned off. Watch Desk advises Air Traffic Manager (ATM)

ZDC Watch Desk calls ZNY Watch Desk. Inquires if ZNY had notified Atlantic City to launch fighter. ZNY advised they thought about, however, had not done so; lost radar on the aircraft. ZNY advises there was another problem; fire was reported at the World Trade Center and to call them back in 10 minutes.

RO advised that a National Telcon would be held; on the telcon it was mentioned that ZID had lost radar contact with AAL77. ZDC Watch Desk called ZID Watch Desk and they advised that all communications and radar had been lost with AAL77.

ZDC Assistant Air Traffic Manager (AATM) pages ZDC ATM with "rumor" of aircraft accident/bombing at WTC. (ZDC AATM on TOY travel to JFK via UAL7283; aircraft taxied back to gate at Washington IAD). ZDC ATM responds (1328Z) confirming and directing AATM to return to ZDC. ZDC AATM responds on the way.

ZDC ATM pages AAT-1 (acting) and advises that all departures should be stopped. AAT-1 (1343Z) advises they are stuck in Manchester, NH.

ZDC ATM repeats "stop" page to AEA-501.

ZDC ATM directs ZDC TMU to stop all ZDC internal departures. ZDC TMU coordinates action with underlying approach controls and Areas.

ZDC AATM pages ZDC ATM of possible incident at the Pentagon.

Numerous reports of possible HIJACKs and lost aircraft were reported during the course of the Telcon. ZDC was advised during the Telcon that a runaway primary target was heading toward Washington DC simultaneously ZOB advised ZDC Area 4 of the same situation. Area 4 controllers and Telecon noted that the SE bound aircraft was UAL93. OPS Manager attempted to locate primary target.
1430Z
Report that UAL93 was down northwest of Camp David. Coordinates of accident site transmitted. Ops Manager located suspected crash location on main display monitor (MDM) located at watch desk. OPS Manager noticed a beacon circling overhead and identified as a military C130.
