Mike: We would be interested in what he has to say about terrorist financing, but I don't think it makes sense for us to add another body to the interview. In his book, Benjamin talks about Clarke's emphasis on bin Laden finances and his frustration with the lack of intelligence regarding "how much it cost to be bin Laden." It seems in reading the book that the issue was more Clarke's than it was Benjamin's, and we will obviously want to talk to Clarke. I think the best way to proceed, if it is OK with you, would be for you to "test the waters" for us to see whether it would be worth a second interview on the topic of terrorist financing. Let me know your thoughts. John

Team Leaders

From:

Mike Hurley, Team 3

Team 3 has scheduled an interview of Dan Benjamin.

Mr. Benjamin is a former

Clinton Administration NSC Director for transnational threat and is co-author of "The Age of Sacred Terror". We will interview Mr. Benjamin on Tuesday, July 29 from 2:30 - 5:30 pm.

The

interview will be held in the K Street conference room. Please advise if a member of your team would like to attend. We would like to keep the number of staff in the interview to a manageable number. I regret the short notice for this interview. We originally intended to interview Mr. Benjamin in mid-August and only just learned that he will be away for the month of August. As it is important for us to talk to him early in the interview period, we believed it necessary to schedule him before his August departure. We anticipate that we will have several interviews of Mr. Benjamin, so there will be additional opportunities to question him beyond the July 29
