Wardenial team

The Warden and Vice-Warden are resident members of staff responsible for student welfare and pastoral care; discipline; re-admissions; Hall community and social life; and out-of-hours emergency cover. They are assisted by four Senior Members. The Warden and Vice-Warden are experienced University of London academics or teachers and undertake their wardenial duties as an additional (part-time) appointment to their academic rôles within the University. Senior Members are predominantly postgraduate students who are not employed by the University but undertake their duties on a voluntary basis in return for free accommodation in the Hall. The Wardenial team can offer support and guidance with many problems, including academic difficulties, medical or emotional problems, social concerns, financial worries, and disputes with other residents (e.g. noisy neighbours). They also work with the elected Residents’ Club Committee to help co-ordinate social activities in the Hall. To arrange a meeting with the Warden or Vice-Warden, you should leave a note at reception stating when you will be available.

There is a 24-hour coin-operated laundrette in the basement.

www.connaught-hall.org.uk Connaught Hall was established by the Duke of Connaught in 1919, at Torrington Square; he gave the Hall to the University of London in 1928, and it moved to its present location – a splendid Georgian terrace with a Grade II listed façade overlooking Tavistock Square gardens – in 1961. The Hall accommodates 214 full-time students of the various colleges and institutes of the University; the majority are first-year undergraduates. There is an even mix of men and women, and a great diversity of cultural and social backgrounds. Most accommodation is in single study-bedrooms, but there are also five twin rooms; all rooms have an individual washbasin, but toilet and shower facilities are shared. Amenities include: restaurant, fitness room, laundrette, common rooms with tv, computer room, library, private courtyard garden, and a bar managed and staffed by Hall residents. Every room has telephone and high-speed internet connections. Many of the residents in Hall are experiencing life away from home for the first time; for some, home is on the other side of the world. And whilst London is undoubtedly a vibrant and exciting place, it can sometimes be a lonely and impersonal city. So Connaught Hall aims to provide a safe, comfortable home and a supportive, friendly, and tolerant environment in which its residents can study, relax, and socialise as they wish.
