To have a guest stay for two or three nights, you must complete an overnight guest form including your guest’s usual address.

Connaught Hall reception Available 24 hours a day, the reception service is ultimately the responsibility of the Bursar’s Office, although the Desk Porters are provided on contract by iss. You can call reception on 8200. Many of the Desk Porters have worked at Connaught Hall for a number of years; they are often very knowledgeable about the Hall and the local area. The Porters are responsible for security at the Hall’s main entrance, greeting guests and visitors, answering incoming telephone calls at the main switchboard, sorting mail, and acting as an initial point of contact from where enquiries can be directed to other members of staff. Services available from reception include:          

photocopying, sending and receiving faxes, guest bed hire, guest meal ticket purchases, packed / late supper requests, keys for the gym and store rooms, replacement light bulbs, magazines, audiovisual equipment, and sports equipment and board games.

Overnight guests One night’s stay

More than three nights’ stay The Warden or Vice-Warden’s permission is required if you want to have a guest stay for more than three nights. You must complete an overnight guest form at least seven days in advance and leave it at reception for authorisation. There is no charge for overnight guests who are properly signed in. Unauthorised overnight guests, however, will be charged the full commercial guest rate (around £25/night) for the entire length of their stay. Please note that you may not lend your key or swipe card to anyone else, including overnight guests.

Guest bed hire We have a small number of camp beds available for hire by prior arrangement, complete with pillows and bed linen, for a small charge plus deposit. You can request a camp bed at reception when you book in your overnight guest; book early to avoid disappointment, and in any case no later than 10am on the day the bed is required. Requests after 10am may be accepted at the discretion of the Desk Porter, depending on availability of domestic staff to make up the bed. Camp beds may be collected from reception after 4 pm (and before 11 pm) on the first day of the hire, and must be returned no later than 10 am after the last night, otherwise you will be charged for an extra night.

If you are unable to return to the Hall in time for dinner because of academic commitments (Monday – Friday only), you may request a packed supper instead of a meal in the dining hall. Packed suppers consist of a sandwich (or potted salad), a packet of crisps, a piece of fruit, some biscuits, and a carton of juice. You must leave your Hall id card at reception before 10 am on the day the packed supper is required. Your packed supper will be ready to collect from reception at 7 pm.

Gym & store room keys Keys for the fitness room and trunk rooms are available from reception; please remember to sign them out, and return them as soon as you have finished.

Residents’ Club Committee games, magazines & equipment The Residents’ Club Committee provides a range of magazines, board games, sports equipment, and audiovisual equipment (currently a dvd player and vhs recorder), which residents may borrow from reception. In all cases, you are required to leave your Hall id card at Reception until you return the item. When borrowing audiovisual equipment, you may also be asked to leave a deposit, depending on the rules set by the Committee.

Replacement light bulbs Replacement desk lamp bulbs can be collected free of charge from reception at any time.
