Name : Pedja Rifki Azizi Class : 6A Achievement Testing as an aid to Learning The application of achievement testing is too much, so it makes that method not really effective. The reason behind it, because teachers using achievement testing just for the end of course or end of learning. However achievement testing be supposed to help students with their learning process. For example like it give them motivation to have good scores or it help them to challenge their knowledge, and other things. The other way to make testing to be effective, the first step that teachers should do is the instructional process. -

Testing Inn The Instructional Process

To start the instruction from beginning to the end, the teachers should make the decisions. There are three types of decisions that can make the testing should effective. The first is decision at the beginning of instruction, thes second is decision during instruction, the third is decision at the end of instruction. 1. Beginning of Instruction (Placement testing) Placement testing diveded into two part. The first part is readiness pretest and the second part is placement pretest. The readiness pretest use when teachers want to know the students basic knowledge of the course. If the students pass the test, their can go to the step, but if the students failed, the teachers will make a special treatment or section for them. For the placement pretest use when teachers want to know how much the students understand the material. If the students pass the test, their can go to the step. Also if the students are already know about the next material, their can pass that material. 2. During Instruction (Formative and Diagnostic testing) Formative test are similar with quizzes test and the purpose of formative test is to improve students learning and identify the students’ learning succes and failures so that adjustments in instruction and learning can be made. It means the students can learning by their mistake in result test and solve the problem by their own. In another case when students cannot solve the problem diagnostic pretest is the one that can help them. Because the diagnostic prestest is use for help the students find the idea to solve their problem and diagnostic test use before the students do a remedied. 3. End of Instruction (Summartive testing) Summartive test is the last instruction. From all the learning task put together in one test. So we can tell, this is the last test that students should do. -

Other Ways Test Influnce Learning



Test aid students motivation

Test give motivation. It will help the students to do more in learning, because the motivation will give the students a goal that they want reach, it can be grade, requirement, or satisfication. 

Test aid retention and transfer learning

With test, it can be tool for students to help them make a big storage or memory, so with the big storage it will help them easy to tranfer the learning material.



Test aid student self understanding

With test, it will make students can individual understanding because the fuction of all instruction is To help the students understand themselves better so that they can make better decision and they can evaluate their performance more effectively. 

Test provide feedback concerning instructional effectiveness

The result of the test can be used for evaluate the instructional process and it will see the effectiveness the method of instructional. -

Minimum Competency Testing and Student Learning

The minimum competency test is a test that serve for graduation requirement and the test focus on basic and life skill. The students should demonstrate a satisfactory level of performance before receiving a high school diploma. -

Basic Principles of Achievment Testing

1. Achievement test should measure clearly defined learning outcomes that are in harmony with the instructional objectives. 2. Achievement test should measure a representative sample of the learning tasks included in the instruction. 3. Achievement test should include the types of the test item that are most appropiate for measuring the desired learning outcomes. 4. Achievement test should fit the particular uses that will be made of the result. 5. Achievement test should be as rellable as possible and should then be interpreted with caution. 6. Achievement test should improve students learning.
