Integrates Technology in teaching different learning areas in SPED THE USE OF ICT IN SPECIAL EDUCATION TO BRING BETTER LIFE TO

What is Special Education? Special Education is a term used to describe a wide range of supports and programs for students who need different teaching methods or special equipment to allow them to be successful in school. Sometimes Special Education support involves a different way of teaching; sometimes it means a student will get extra time for writing tests or special equipment to help them with their school work. In a Special Education program, students may be placed in separate classes for all or part of the day, or stay in their regular class with support from an educational assistant. The most important thing to remember is that Special Education is intended to help the child succeed in school. 

 Special

Education  every pupil/child should have the right for equal Education  Pupils who for various reasons will not be able to acquire knowledge through regular forms of education are entitled to Special Education  Adults are also entitled to Special Education

ICT and Possibilities  ICT

is meant to create new possibilities for disabled persons!  Our imagination are the only limit  ICT can lead to enormous improvements of quality of life  It is very important that the equipment is modified to the individual’s specific needs

Pupils use ICT as a support for their learning because of:  Learning problems  Reading-and writing-problems  Physical disability  Communication difficulties  Concentration difficulties  Activating co-operating with others

Special equipment

Different type of software:  Word

processor, with different functions  Learning software  Compensating software  Software for communications  Software for activity

Software for different use: Word : *Making shopping lists with “Word Pictures”  *Making stories with symbols  Communication software (Talking Screen): Using symbols combined with synthetic speech, to express single words or sentences  Learning Software: to teach counting, basic concepts and so on  Activation software: memory games, puzzles, interactive games an so on 

Inspiring lives-Teacher’s      

   



Eric: pupil in second class Fully integrated in a normal class Has no speech Cerebral palsy, big motor problems, spastic Very motivate for school Got his first computer when he was three years old, both in Kindergarten and in his home. Started with a single switch –two switches –Intellikey. Soon we will start with headmouse He has also a Tufftalker 12 hours with Teacher of Special Education, the rest of the school day: Support Staff for Special Needs. Most of the time together with his class

Serina: pupil in the secondary school, loves to work with ICT  Difficulties to express herself verbally and fine motor problems  Fully activated in school  Got her own computer one year ago, both in school and in her home  The purpose of using ICT for Serina  To improve her communicational skills, both verbally and written  Allow her to become more independent  Increase her control of her own daily life

Conditions for successful  The

students has to be highly motivated  The teacher has to be enthusiastic  The teacher has to be committed to the task  A social network must be able to educate the student about the software and equipment

Conditions for successful  The

equipment has to be adjusted to the individual needs  The software has to be adjusted and motivating  It is necessary that the student receives as many hours of education as needed  The student should be able to borrow whatever she/he needs through the Facility Central
