Social Studies Topic: Areas of Regional Cooperation Objective: Discuss the areas of regional integration cooperation The following organizations are recognized as institutions of the community under the revised Treaty Chaguaramas because they were established either by or with the help and support of the Caribbean community with the aim of developing cooperations among the member states in the respective areas. The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency
Collects and circulates information and disasters affecting the region to governmental and non-governmental organizations. Alleviates the consequences of disasters affecting it’s member states. Mobilizes and coordinates disaster relief from governmental and non-governmental organizations for affected member states. Establishes and maintains adequate disaster response capabilities among member states
The Caribbean Meteorological Organization (CMO)
Promotes and coordinate regional activities in the field of meteorology and align sciences among its members. Provide support and advice to governments in dealing with issues of an international major affecting weather and climate. Represents the interest of its members at the international level.
The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA): It is an umbrella body which will be taken over the functions of five Caribbean regional health institutions, namely:
The Caribbean Environmental Health Institute The Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institution (CFNI) The Caribbean Epidemiology Centre (CAREC) The Caribbean Health Research Council (CHRC) The Caribbean Regional Drug Testing Laboratory (CRDTL)
The objectives of CARPH include:
Promoting the physical and mental health and wellness of people within the Caribbean. Providing strategic direction in an analyzing, defining and responding to public health priorities of the Caribbean community. Promoting and developing measures for the prevention of disease in the Caribbean. Supporting the Caribbean community in preparing for and responding to public health emergencies. Supporting solidarity in health, as one of the principal pillars of functional cooperations in the Caribbean community.
Supporting the relevant objectives of the CCH as approved by the council.
