Standard SS6E6.a • Compare and contrast different types of trade barriers such as tariffs, quotas and embargoes.

Essential questions • 1) How does trade barriers ( tariffs, quotas and embargoes) hinder voluntary trade from occurring between countries. • 2) How does the EU encourage voluntary trade among the members •

Tariffs , Quotas ,and Embargoes • Tariffs: This is a duty imposed on goods when they are moved across political boundaries • Quotas: An important type of protectionist trade restrictions that sets a physical limit on the quantity of goods that can be important. • Embargoes: An prohibition of commerce and trade with a certain country, The US law prohibits in secondary embargoes.

How are they alike? • They are alike because they are trade barriers and they use imports to trade goods and to get goods.

How are they different? • They are different because tariffs taxes on imports, quotas limit the amount that can be imported while embargoes bar nation’s imports or ban exports.
