INTRODUCTION - HAMSA ^ Drugs were created to help the medical needs of individual ^ They help mainly , through acting as a stimulant and sedative ^ As a stimulant , they help individual to be active in the daily operations ^ As a sedative , they ease pain of injury ^ But the drugs have been misused throughout the century by many inhumane individuals to gain more profit

TYPES OF DRUGS - kHEMA ^ There are many types of drugs ^ Drugs can be classified into alcohol , club drugs , cocaine , heroin , mushroom , opium , and peyote ^ ALCOHOL -It acts as a sedative -Examples include wine , beer , whiskey , gin , vodka ^ CLUB DRUGS -Referedto as designer drugs , they are colourless , odourless and flavourless -Examples include Ecstacy , GHB , Ketamine and Clarity ^ COCAINE -Divided into the powder and rock –like forms -It is a powerful stimulant -Created off cocoa plant -It is smokeable

^ HEROIN - rANJINI -It is derived from morphine -It may be smoked , inhaled or injected ^ MUSHROOM -It is also known as Psilocybin -It may be ingested or dried and smoked ^ OPIUM -Harvested from the unripe seed pods of the Poppy plant -It may be injected or smoked ^ PEYOTE - It has Mescaline as an active psychotrophic ingredient - It may be ingested or dried and smoked

REASONS TO TAKE DRUGS - rEVATHI ^ People take drugs for many different reasons . ^ Young people give same reasons for using drugs . ^ the reasons include the following : - To have fun , celebrate , and socialise - To become more confident - To relieve boredom , relax , and reduce stress - To fit in with friends or associates - To forget problems - To relieve pain - To make themselves feel good

THE effects OF MISUSING DRUGS on an individual sHAYMALA ^ It may lose one’s self respect and image ^ The overdose of a drug can be fatal ^ It can cause one to vomit ^ It may be lead to stomach irritation inluding indigestion , pain and nausea ^ Some sensitive individuals may even develop asthma , hay fever and nasal congestion ^ Other than that , it may cause partial deafness ^ It can also cause kidney malfunction ^ Lastly , it may lead to death

THE EFFECTS OF DRUG MISUSE ON THE COUNTRY - jaSIMA ^ The drug misusers and dealers defect the image of the country ^ They decrease the productivity of the country ^ They cause law and order problems for the government ^ They cause the foreign investors to doubt the stablity of the country

TREATMENTS FOR DRUG ABUSE - pRAVINNA ^ The factors to be considered in treating the drug addicts include : -The type of drug used - The duration of drug addiction - The amout of drug intake - The social needs - Other medical complications - The affordability

^ There are a few type of treatment , which include the residential treatment , anti – addictive drug treatment and the alterantive treatment . sIVAGAMI ^ The residential treatment concerns the 12 steps programs or the Therapeutic Communities . ^ The anti – addictive drug treatment includes the replacement or substitution with drugs like methadone .
