greater area reykjavík sightseeing This tour includes the most significant places in the capital and the surrounding towns. Only a few places are listed below.

In one afternoon, this popular excursion enables travellers to visit many of Iceland’s most famous sites.

We visit the presidential residence at Bessastaðir as well as Hafnarfjörður, the town where the “hidden people” and humans live together in harmony. There we also visit the old fishing harbor.

We visit the Þingvellir National Park, where the Icelandic parliament Alþingi was established in the year 930 AD.

In Reykjavik we go to the restaurant Perlan, which is built on water tanks that hold the city’s hot water supply. After enjoying the spectacular view over Reykjavík and its surroundings we go to Höfði house where the all-important summit between former U.S. President Ronald Reagan and former U.S.S.R. Secretary General Mikhail Gorbachev took place in 1986. We visit the Hallgrímskirkja church and the old town centre where the Icelandic parliament Alþingi and the town hall are situated. We also show you the sports and recreation area in Laugardalur, a geothermally heated outdoor swimming pool and sculptures crafted by Ásmundur Sveinsson. AH The Golden circle classic

Iceland from below

This popular excursion introduces you to some of the best known natural phenomena in Iceland.

Available throughout the year, this tour takes you to unique sights of Iceland’s most spectacular lava tube caves and craters.

We start by visiting Nesjavellir a high temperature geothermal area in the scenic landscape of Lake Þingvallavatn. From there we go to the Þingvellir National Park, where the Icelandic parliament Alþingi was founded in the year 930 AD, which makes it the oldest known still-functioning parliament in the world. Þingvellir is geologically remarkable and you can see tectonic plate boundaries there that form a breathtaking scenery.

We will enter through narrow cave entrances and find they reveal extraordinary scenery of colours and lava formations. These beautiful, natural phenomena were created when the surface lava hardened and the fluid lava continued to flow in tubes underneath.

We continue to the beautiful waterfall Gullfoss where we can walk so close to the edge that we might feel the mist of the glacial water on our faces. From there we journey towards the geothermal area around the incredible spouting hot springs of Geysir and Strokkur. We proceed to Skálholt church, the ancient seat of the Icelandic bishops. From there we travel towards Hveragerði, a small and charming horticultural village. Due to weather and road conditions we cannot guarantee visits to Nesjavellir in the winter season. Note: Our Saturday departures will also be guided in German as of November 1st 2008.

15

You will also see natural stalactites and many different rock formations making this nearly an indescribable experience. The caves become wide and high and in many places the floor is quite even. However, the trip can become rather difficult so we recommend you bring good walking shoes or hiking boots which are suitable for uneven lava surfaces. Respect for nature and safety are our main concerns. There are no handrails, lights or any pre-installed tools in or around the caves. We rely completely on the equipment we carry and that people respect our guidelines. This tour is suitable for all who can walk on uneven surfaces and at times, on all four.

south coast & þórsmörk We begin this tour by driving over the mountain heath Hellisheiði towards Selfoss town and then along the south shore to Seljalandsfoss waterfall. From there our journey continues towards the interior to our main attraction, Þórsmörk (i.e. Thor’s Woodland), a nature reserve shielded on three sides by glaciers and mountains. The glacial melt-off forms rivers that have to be crossed on the way, but those can change in a matter of hours from an innocent stream into a thunderous torrent. Some days the crossing is quite challenging or even impossible but our skilled drivers are very experienced in these driving conditions and will take you safely across the rivers. Once there we make a stop to enjoy the breathtaking scenery with its multitude of small gullies and valleys, clad with low birch-trees that create seemingly endless possibilities for the nature lover. Various hiking routes are available there and everybody can find a suitable one. On our way back we will stop at the rugged gorge of Stakkholtsgjá for a short hike. This tour is truly unforgettable for the nature lover at heart and ideal as a hiking trip.

landmannalaugar by bus We depart from Reykjavik and head to the geothermal area Landmannalaugar, often referred to as “The Pearl of the Central Highlands”. We journey through the beautiful countryside of southern Iceland and proceed into the highlands through Þjórsárdalur valley and visit Hjálparfoss waterfall. Landmannalaugar’s colourful mountains are formed by centuries of volcanic activity in the area and the picturesque natural landscape in this raw climate is simply breathtaking. While there, we’ll enjoy a relaxing bath in a natural warm pool which was created when many hot and cold springs in the area combined. The tour continues back to the west and past Iceland’s most infamous and active volcano, Hekla, which was believed to be the gateway to hell during the Middle Ages. The volcano has had frequent eruptions in the past years and has left thick layers of ash and pumice over the landscape.

Northern lights mystery Join us for a mysterious trip, on a dark winter night. Any time from the onset of autumn darkness until the light nights of spring we can witness one of nature’s most spectacular displays; the phenomenon which we call the Northern Lights. Far from the glow of the city, we hunt for the elusive Aurora Borealis – known as the Northern Lights. Together we will search for these magnificent auroras. On a clear night, we may be lucky enough to see the Northern Lights swirling in a wild and carefree dance across the heaven in dramatic shapes, colours, patterns and sizes. The Northern Lights are visible from September through April but can only be seen on a clear night. Therefore, we reserve the right to cancel this tour if the evening sky is heavily clouded or weather conditions are not favourable. Before we start this tour we always check the weather forecast around the south western part of Iceland. From experience, we decide where each journey will lead us, for the best possibilities to see the Northern Lights.

snæfellsnes National Park

This tour takes us along the beautiful south shore of Iceland to the extraordinary glacial lagoon, Jökulsárlón.

Snæfellsnes peninsula is a beautiful area located on the west side of Iceland and offers many recreational activities.

We will pass some charming villages, Skaftafell National Park, Seljalandsfoss waterfall and Skógarfoss waterfall. Just before we reach the lagoon we pass Iceland’s biggest volcano, Öræfajökull glacier which has the highest peak of the island, Hvannadalshnjúkur (2110 m).

Our first stops at the peninsula are at Gerduberg, a columnar basalt cliff in Hnappadal, and Ölkelda, a natural spring of clean drinking water. We then continue our bus tour around the peninsula and through the national park. On our way we will stop at Arnarstapi and enjoy its extraordinary shores and scenery. Nature lovers enjoy the spectacular landscapes and peculiarities of the surroundings and spend time hiking and bird watching along the precipitous shoreline where it is quite common to see seals.

After we arrive at the lagoon we have some time to view this stunning area before we take a boat tour on the lagoon. The boats that carry us are no ordinary boats as they are capable of driving short distances on land as well as sailing on the water. Jökulsárlón started to form in the early nineteen twenties and is getting bigger every year. You will see many amazing blocks of ice that have broken off Europe’s biggest glacier, Vatnajökull, and sail slowly towards the ocean which is only a kilometer away. After a refreshing boat tour (inlcuded in tour price) on the lagoon we head back to Reykjavík. * Additional departures from June throughout August on Tuesdays and Saturdays

We continue our journey to the National Park where you find many beaches and amazing bird life. In this area there are many signs of ancient eruptions from the volcano with various lava formations and craters. Some visitors assemble here regularly each summer to enjoy the energy radiation, as they believe it to be one of earths seven energy spots.

Breidafjördur is renowned for its stunning beauty, with the perfect frame of mountains, high and low, highlighting the scenery. The most famous of these mountains is the majestic and mystical Snæfellsjökull glacier, towering at the west end of the peninsula. A rich variety of bird life, including puffins, nests in the cliffs and this is also the only area where the white tailed eagle nests in Iceland. During the cruise the net is hauled and you can taste fresh shellfish and sea urchin directly from the sea! Please remember to bring warm clothing. A great combination of our tours AH15 and AH29 for those who want to make the most of their afternoon in Iceland.

Are you a certified diver in search of new experiences? Always wanted to try the Torpedo 3500 DPV scooter? Join our newest tour and step into the footsteps of James Bond!

If you are a certified diver, with or without a dry suit experience, this tour is for you. It will give you the opportunity to dive in one of the world’s top ten diving sites Silfra, situated in the Þingvellir National Park.

Combine your visit to Iceland with an exciting diving experience in Thingvellir national park. The diving site Silfra is actually a crack/fissure in the face of the earth between the Euroasian and the American tectonic plates. The weather does not play any part in diving in Silfra. The temperature is a constant 1-3°C all year round.

Silfra is actually a crack/fissure in the face of the earth and has a constant temperature of 1-3°C all year round.

Duration:

You can swim out the crack without effort due to a mild current thrusting your upwards. Silfra offers open water diving, caving and deep diving, but the depth is about 40 meters open water and 60 meters inside of a cave.

Pick-up time:

We offer two dives on this tour. On the first dive we dive to David’s ravine, which is located at the bottom of lake Thingvellir, and use the Torpedo 3500 DPV scooters to get there. Our 10 scooters allow us to offer this tour even to bigger groups. The second dive is a “normal” Silfra wet suit dive. Even without the DPV scooter you will be able to swim out the Silfra crack effortlessly because of a mild current pushing you on. This tour is perfect fun for all divers and is recommended by the local diving club. Our tour includes two guided dives with certified PADI instructors and all the equipment needed. Enjoy warm drinks and snacks between the dives as well as high resolution pictures on a CD at the end of the day.

Weather does not play any part in diving in Silfra, except it’s more beautiful in sunny weather. You will be accompanied by a PADI Dive master or a PADI Instructor. It is really easy to dive in this area, because we can choose from different routes depending on your experience as a diver. We recommend that you wear warm undergarments beneath the diving suit and bring extra clothing. You will have to have experience as a diver and be familiar with all the equipment involved.

Next we kick the action into higher gear to get even closer to Iceland’s nature and go for a snowmobiling tour on Langjökull, Iceland’s second largest glacier. After an action-packed day we drive through the countryside, make a pass by the greenhouse village in Hveragerði, from which many of Iceland’s vegetables are supplied. We reserve the right to alter the itinerary according to weather and road conditions. Please note that the operation period/location is dependent on snow layers. AH 4x4 Iceland adventure You will start by climbing on board one of the different types of Super Jeeps, a 4x4 vehicle, which has been specially modified by Icelanders to be able to travel on the rugged tracks of their country. Many of these rugged conditions are to be found within a short distance from Reykjavík, the Capital city of Iceland, provided you know where to go! Within minutes of leaving the Capital, these magnificent vehicles are put to the test by effortlessly climbing the 335 m/1,100 feet to the top of “’Ulfarsfell” – and once at the summit, the visitor is greeted by the sight of, quite literally, the city at their feet. We continue, following the hot water pipe line to its source, that is to say, the apparently dormant volcano Hengill and nearby Lake Thingvallavatn (Iceland’s largest natural lake). We pause at the viewpoint situated on the flanks of the volcano itself, taking the opportunity to gaze over the geothermal plant and to view the surreal landscape dotted with steam vents and bore holes. The 4X4s will then bring you along the river Sog with its hydropower plants onwards to the hot spring village of Hveragerdi. Following a short stop at the greenhouse/ restaurant “Garden of Eden” we head back to Reykjavík but not the “normal” way!
