ABSTRACT Collecting this file has its own purpose, it is to identify whether a plant grows better in shaded areas or in exposed areas such as being directly hit by the sun. Since there are four plants it also helped determine which plant this method is more applicable to. The plants we measured according to their length and width determines their difference. We measured the ones that are according to category by seeing which sides we can still fit in. In general, plants need sunlight a s a basic need to grow and produce its own food our conclusion is that the plants or specifically their leaves are bigger when they are exposed to light.

INTRODUCTION 1.1. Background of the Study Sunlight is essential to plants, as it plays an important factor in the photosynthesis of any plant. Sunlight, as we all know it, gives energy and vitamin D to the plants. Because of this, plants make their own food, live longer, and reproduce. As for soil, it also gives an important factor to the plants which are nutrients. These nutrients make the plant to live longer than usual. In this study, we will learn how the plants such as the Bougainvillea, Santan, Carabao grass and the Snake plant will change if placed in two different areas – exposed to the sun or shaded from the sun. This study is conducted to know how plants grow if they are planted in a shaded area or an exposed area. Variables under this study includes the following: The Bougainvillea plant (Bougainvillea glabra), Santan (Ixora coccinea), Carabao grass (Bouteloua dactyloides) and the Snake plant (Sansevieria trifasciata). Sunlight and soil are also part of this study as they are factors of any plant. The group measured ten (10) of each plant in two different areas – shaded or exposed.

1.2.Statement of the Problem We, the class of Grade Eight Fleming, were tasked to measure and provide information about the length and the width difference of both shaded and exposed plants of Las Piñas City National Science High School located in Carnival Park Street, BFRV Talon II, Las Piñas City. What are the findings that we learned throughout the gathering of information? What are the possible effects of their differences? We learned that any plant can differ in growth depending on whether they are placed in a shaded or in an exposed area. Clearly, these plants differ in growth and not every plant in the garden has or is given the same treatment. Some are watered daily, and some are just watered on every other day. 1.3.Significance of the Study 

Determine the reaction of the plants with or without sunlight.

Determine the height or growth of both plants when you communicate with them.

Identify the growth of the plants with the right amount of sunlight.

Identify if the plants are wider, bigger, or longer based on the area they are planted.

Know the differences between the shaded plant to the exposed plant.

1.4.Scope and Limitations The measuring of plants of grade 8 Fleming took place last January 30, 2019 in Las Piñas City National Science High School, Carnival Park Street, BFRV, Talon 2, Las Piñas City, Philippines. This study was conducted by each group composed of 4-5 students. The facilitator/teacher who was assigned to assist students was Miss Leslie Villegas, a grade eight Research 2 teacher. She was the one who chose the type of plants to be measured. The given plants were Bougainvillea, Santan, Snake Plant and Carabao Grass. They were assigned to measure the lengths and widths of the 60 leaves given. They were only given one hour to accomplish their given task. Each group has the same materials to be used: a ruler, a grade six pad or a paper, ball pen and leaves. The steps to be followed are: First, choose the leaves to be measured. Second, measure it one by one using a ruler. Third, using a paper and a ball pen to take down the measurements. Last, take a picture of some leaves that was used. These pictures will be used as documentation or proof that all of our measurements were legitimate and exact.

METHODOLOGY First, we gathered some leaves that we've decided to measure. Next, using a 12-inch ruler, we measured the length and width of the leaves one by one. Then, we made a list of each 80 leaves so that we can make sure that each measurement is accurate. Lastly, we took some pictures for the documentation that shows how our study was conducted and what are the examples of leaves used.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS As we finished measuring the exposed and shaded plants, we noticed that all the three plants were much bigger, longer and wider when exposed to sunlight. While the plants that were shaded was smaller than the exposed ones. The table above shows the data that we collected as we measured the plants. Below is the table of the measured leaves of the exposed and shaded plants.

CONCLUSION Sunlight, as we all know, are very important to plants as they play a major role in the plant’s photosynthesis. And after finding out that the plants such as the Bougainvillea, the Carabao Grass, the Santan and the Snake plant were bigger when exposed to sunlight rather than being shaded, we concluded that plants grow healthier, bigger and longer if they have the right amount of sunlight. The data, the measurements of the length and width of different kinds of exposed and unexposed plants, that were collected are observational data. We observed how much the sunlight can create big changes to the growth of the plants. To gather and record observational data, you will need an instrument. In our study, we used a 12-inch ruler, paper and pen to record our data.
