RADIOACTIVITY The spontaneous emission of radioactive particles or elements from the surface of metals is known as radioactivity. The elements which disintegrate themselves when kept outside a lead box are known as radioactive elements. They are very unstable and disintegrate spontaneously forming new elements. The energy worked in a radioactive reaction is higher than that of an ordinary chemical reaction. External features like temperature, pressure, density do not affect radioactive reactions. Radioactive elements consist of thee rays namely the alpha ( ) rays, the beta ( ) rays, and the gamma ( ) rays. ++ +++ +++
