ELECTRIC MOTOR An Electric motor is a device which converts electrical energy to mechanical energy. It is used as an important component in electric fans, washing machines, refrigerators, mixer grinders and blenders. Do you all know how a D.C. motor works? A coil of wire wrapped around an axle is placed between the two poles of the magnetic field. When a current passes through the coil entering at a point and leaving at the two arms perpendicular to the direction of the magnetic field, they experience force according to the Fleming’s Left Hand Rule. Since the direction of the current in the two sections is opposite to each other, the forces acting on them will also be opposite to each other. This force pulls one section down and the other section up. Mounted free to turn about an axis, the coil rotates anti-clockwise. At half rotation, the current in the loop is reversed in direction by means of sliding contacts and a split ring commutator. Thank You, Adarsha Kharel © AddyDeep corp. ®™
