The bowling was steady the best being Tim Muir with 3/21. The two “P’s” put on 58 in 9.2 overs. We then had a mini collapse and finished up with the same score. Scotty (34) and Tim (45 no) dominated the batting. This was a very enjoyable game played in a good spirit. Reporter: “Podge” alias “Meat Pies”.

Game Report: LPW were inserted when “Bozz” won the toss. Wickets fell regularly and they were 68/6 before Jim Winstanley (19 No) and Marty Kain (21 No) pulled them through. One of their players was less than fair as a square leg umpire. “JP” bowled well again with 3/15. Reporter: “Meat Pies”.

Game Report: “Bozz’ won the toss and decided to bat. We got away to a flyer putting on 30 in 4.2 overs. At the finish we achieved 131/5 with “Turtle” (53) and “DJ” (43NO). Marist Harewood never looked like getting the required runs finishing with 118 all out. Bowling honours were shared between “JP” with 4/11 and “Macca” 3/12. This was an excellent start. Report: “Podge” alias “Meat Pies”.

Game Report: “Bozz” called incorrectly (surprise) and Old Boys Collegians had first use of a “belter” at Burwood. After a scratchy start of 21/3 the “JP’s” the settled in, with the next wicket falling at 91. The next wicket put on 89 and they were finally all out for 240 in the fiftieth over. Best batting came from Corey Anderson (44), Logan Van Beek (64) and Jonas Abraham (74). All the bowlers were tight with “Macca” the best, getting 5/44. The fielding was very good with “Toad” Papps getting a side on run out to dismiss Leighton Burtt. When the boys batted, “Toad” (139 no) and “Turtle” (88 no) were devastating in an unbeaten partnership of 244 in 44.3 overs. There were five 6’s and twenty eight 4’s. There is nothing more to be said, an incredible day of cricket. Another report from: The Podge alias Meat Pies.

Player of the Day: Hiini.

Game Report: “Boz” won the toss. After an opening partnership of 28, “Heeno” and “Macca” were almost unplayable early with the former having figures of 3/30 off ten and the latter 0/11 off ten. From 9/81 Saints recovered to be all out for 123 in the 50th over. “Peaks” 3/14 and “JP” 2/21, also bowled very well. We had a very good opening partnership - the two “P’s” putting on 29 – we again had a poor middle and were 7/78 before “Heeno” (40 no) and “Peaks” saw us through. Another bad pitch and slow outfield. Again Written By: “Meat Pies”.

Game Report: As usual the toss was lost. “Horse” broke down while bowling the first over and “Macca” had to finish it. “Heeno” and “Macca” were almost unplayable early with the former having figures of 4/1 after four overs. From 16/5 LP W recovered to be all out for 129 in the 44th over. James Winstanley batted stubbornly for 40. “Macca” was miserly with 1/11 in ten overs and JD Pawson bowled tightly with 2/25 in 7.1 overs. We had a very good opening partnership - the two “P’s” putting on 52 –with the majority of the runs coming from Scott with 42. After a bad patch in the middle when 3 wickets fell for 11 runs “Macca” saw us through with an unbeaten 49. Craig narrowly won the “Player of the Day” with tight bowling and solid batting. Written By: “Meat Pies”.

Player of the Day: T Muir

Game Report: Marist batting first with East’s new young bowler J Roberts opening the bowling with the experienced R Burson, Roberts bowled very well with control and shape taking his first 2 senior wkts for 9 runs off 5 overs, R Burson finished the day with 2 wkts for 31 runs over 2 spells another good effort. When new player T Muir replaced Burson at the pavilion end he spun the ball viciously with his leg spinners which were too much for the Marist batters taking 3 for 21 off 10 overs. At the other end T Johnston bowled very effectively with his off spinners taking 2 for 20. Other bowlers who took the eye were B Hiini and M Peacock both bowling with good control. The Wkt keeper N Johnson produced his best game for East’s with a polished performance taking 2 catches and 3 stumpings. The general fielding performance by the East’s team was a credit to the hard work they had put in preseason. After 50 overs Marist were 147 for 9 wkts Batting got under way well with Canterbury opener M Papps scoring at will with Capt S Pawson playing the ball well with a opening partnership of 57 runs after losing the openers and S McConnell with the total of 65 for 3, B Hiini and T Muir who took to the bowling with the help of N Johnston later and reaching the Marist total in 23.4 overs. This was a very satisfactory performance by the East Shirley players who all contributed to a very successful outcome. Well done Boys The team would like to congratulate “That Very Fast Bowler from East Shirley known as The Moo” on his marriage to Angela in Brisbane on the day of this game. Cheers Mate
