Game Report: Argggh. Had a mixed 31st birthday. Team had a pretty convincing win against the Pirates but I strained my hammy bowling and couldn’t finish my spell (not such a bad thing as I wasn’t bowling to well anyway). The new team BBQ is incompatible with the old gas bottle, and the forecast norwesters and mid-twenty temperatures never eventuated. On the up side the All Whites qualified for the world cup. Murray Seaton. Another flat bowling performance let the Pirates get through to 158/9 off their 40 overs. Again Gore and Sharky were the backbone of our bowling, while the Predator picked up two wickets in his economical bowling spell. Muz backed up his 50 from last week with a classical, unbeaten 89, punctuated with classical cover drives and solid defence. Muz was ably backed up by Batesy who scored an unbeaten 45. Good to be back in the winners circle and to see the top order getting into the runs. Playing top of the table Merivalle-Papanui next week – should be a good one. Murray Seaton.

Game Report: Following our good win against Saints with a frustrating no show from Riccarton left us a bit flat coming into our game against Marist-Harewood. Half the team on the piss until 5 in the morning probably didn’t help either. We lost the toss and were put into bat. Muz (the only person who batted like he actually wanted to be there) ensured we at least had a few runs to defend with a stylish 50, though 119 was never going to be enough against a team that we have traditionally struggled against. Murray Seaton. Our bowling and fielding followed on from our lethargic batting display. Gore and Fez bowled well picking up 3 wickets each. Fez also picked up his 200th wicket for the team. We picked up a few late wickets but it was too little too late and the result probably looks closer than it really was. Plenty of room for improvement.

Game Report: Annoying. Game moved to artificial at Bower Park – who even knew there was a pitch (of sorts) there. Then Riccarton don’t turn up. Turns out they defaulted but didn’t have the courtesy to let us know. Went round to Daz’s, drank beer, ate sausages and talked shit so not a complete waste of a day.

Game Report: Saints B. The old enemy. The reigning champs and probably the most dominant team in the comp over the last half dozen years or so. We’ve had some good tussles with them over the years, unfortunately this wasn’t one of them, though for the right reasons. Saints won the toss and asked us to bat first. Saints started bowling well on a difficult pitch at Claire Park and we were in early trouble at 62 for 5. Worth mentioning that Potty Smith from Saints picked up his 700th wicket when he had Dipper caught in his fourth over – congratulations. Chicken and I batted solidly for the next 15 overs, putting on another 60 odd runs and ensuring we set Saints an uncomfortable if not overly difficult target. We ended up 154/8 with Chicken unbeaten on 56 and Batesy chipping in with an attractive 25 earlier on. We were quietly confident as we went out to field, knowing that the pitch still had a bit of life in it and it wasn’t easy to bat on. Sharky (3/7) and Gore (2/13) bowled brilliantly to knock the top off the Saints batting order and Chicken finished off a good all round effort with 4/12. A great team effort to bowl Saints out for 61, a win by 93 runs.

Game Report: The horrible weather at Denton Oval was matched by the horrible, low, slow pitch we played on. Winning the toss and bowling we let the opposition get through to 104 all out by dropping no less than six catches. Apart from the drops we actually fielded well with only two misfields and two run outs. Scott and Matt picked up three wickets each. Scoring 105 to win was never going to be easy and we looked in a bit of trouble when we lost Murray early, but Rob and Mike guided us to victory with patient forties.

Total Runs 246/4 Win to: Sydenham by 4 wickets

Player of the Day: G Sanders

Game Report: Our opening game of the season was always going to be a bit of a lottery given that we were playing on an artificial pitch with very short square boundaries against a team of those guys who hang out at indoor cricket venues all week and seem to play for every second team. We started well enough, winning the toss and batting first. Murray drove the first ball of the innings for four on his way to a well compiled 43. The highlight of the batting effort was the maiden hundred from Gareth and Mike avoiding having to shout by getting himself stumped of the second to last ball of the innings. A score of 246/4 was never going to be enough despite three wickets from Rohith and the opposition reached their target with an over to spare, six wickets down. Player of the day: Gareth.
