Ms. Wagoner’s Weekly Newsletter May 11 – May 15, 2009 What have we been up to? This week in math, we continued our unit on algebra. Students reviewed input/output tables and learned the difference between an expression and an equation. Students were able to identify expressions that went along with certain situations. We continued our Animal Encounters theme in Reading this week. We read a story this week about a golden lion tamarin and worked on identifying the main idea and important details. Grammar for this week focused on syllables and prepositions. In Science this week, students continued to work on their Animal Research Project. Many students have been working hard and have started putting together their projects. It is expected that students spend some time at home completing this project as well. The project is due Monday, May 11, and students will be presenting them to the class. We also took a final Spring MAP test in Reading on Thursday. Many students have made excellent progress since the fall and should be very proud of themselves. Our final MAP test for the year will be on Monday, May 18. We also had a character counts assembly to celebrate ‘appreciation’ on Friday. Students learned different ways to show appreciation and were also introduced to the teaching teams for next year.
