In 1884 another parade and the knights of labor decided to do was done annually. Other organizations, mostly affiliated to the first international, preferred on may 1, the date that commemorates the start in 1886 a protest strike of the working day of eight hours and that had led to the Haymarket riot in Chicago, three days later on 4 may. President Grover Cleveland believed that the holiday on may 1 would be an opportunity for disorders.
