Past Perfect Form and Use
Form Read the sentences: Affirmative He had left. subject +had + main verb in the Past Participle Negative He hadn’t left. subject + had + not + main verb in the Past Participle Interrogative Had he left? had + subject + main verb in the Past Participle
Use
Actions which happened before another action at a particular time in the past. ⇒ He had left when you arrived. (When you got there he wasn’t there. He had gone.)
