Present Simple Read the sentences:      

I love adventures. Harry lives at 4, Privet Drive. I don’t do magic tricks. He goes to Hogwarts School. Lara Croft usually wears sports clothes. Does Harry go to a normal school?

1. The verbs are in the: Past Simple Present Simple Future 2. Which sentences are in the affirmative, negative and interrogative forms?

Present Simple Affirmative  I love adventures.  Harry lives at 4, Privet Drive.  He goes to Hogwarts School.  Lara Croft usually wears sports clothes. Negative  I don’t do magic tricks. Interrogative  Does Harry go to a normal school?

Present Simple Affirmative You like Harry Potter films. Subject + main verb Negative You don’t like Harry Potter films Subject + do + not + main verb Interrogative Do you like Harry Potter films? Do + subject + main verb

Does – 3rd person singular!

Present Simple - 3rd person singular We add an -s to the verb in the 3rd person singular. e.g. She likes Harry Potter films. But we add –es when the verb ends in:

-o -ch -sh -ss -x

Go > goes Watch > watches Here are some examples ⇒

Wash > washes Kiss > kisses Fix > fixes

Present Simple - 3rd person singular Verbs ending in y Consonant + y Study > studies (we drop the y and add ie+s) Vowel + y (we add s) Play > plays

Present Simple – Short answers Do you play Quidditch?  

Yes, I do. No, I don’t.

Does she do magic tricks?  

Yes, she does. No, she doesn’t.

3rd Person Singular - Does Affirmative:  She likes Harry Potter films. Negative:  She doesn’t like Harry Potter films. Interrogative:  Does she like Harry Potter films? Go back

Timetables The train arrives at half past nine.



A permanent state I am a teacher.



Absolute truths The sun rises every morning.
