How
We
Began
 Citizens
for
Decency
was
created
as
a
result
of
an
individual's
personal
experience
with
the
 harmful
effects
of
pornography.
A
single
mother
from
Idaho,
approached
our
CEO
with
a
 plea
to
start
an
anti‐pornography
organization.
Her
husband
was
introduced
to
 pornography
at
a
young
age,
and
could
never
fully
overcome
his
addiction.
He
tried
to
lead
 a
normal
life,
eventually
getting
married
and
having
kids.
However,
the
addiction
was
so
 strong
it
led
him
to
have
violent
thoughts
and
ended
up
taking
his
life.

 This
started
Citizens
for
Decency
as
a
result
of
her
plea.
But
before
starting
the
 organization,
our
CEO
took
several
trips
to
Washington
D.C.,
networking
with
other
 decency
supporters
to
evaluate
the
needs
in
Idaho.
It
became
clear
that
there
were
few,
if
 any,
decency
groups
equipped
to
take
immediate
action
in
advocating
policy
change
and
 increasing
awareness
in
Southeast
Idaho.

 He
then
began
to
garner
community
and
national
support
to
create
a
group
that
could
 effectively
create
and
accomplish
goals
that
would
help
in
fighting
against
the
ravages
of
 pornography.

Since
that
time,
much
has
been
accomplished,
and
many
lives
have
already
 been
changed
and
protected
for
the
better.

 What
we
have
done

 One
of
the
most
important
purposes
of
Citizens
for
Decency
is
to
advocate
for
public
policy
 change
against
pornography.
Citizens
for
Decency
CEO
has
propelled
the
change
by
taking
 internet
filtering
legislation
Utah
has
passed,
and
working
with
Idaho
legislators
to
pass
the
 same
bill.
Citizens
for
Decency
plans
on
making
a
permanent
difference
by
gathering
five
 pro‐decency
grass‐roots
supporters
in
each
voting
district
to
unite
and
stand
against
 pornography
legislation.

 Citizens
for
Decency
has
already
started
educating
&
increasing
awareness
of
individuals
of
 all
ages
by
hosting
the
2009
Rexburg
anti‐pornography
conference,
where
550
attendees
 learned
from
experienced
counselors,
CEO's,
and
attorneys
about
pornography's
harmful
 effects.

 As
a
result
of
the
conference
our
CEO
has
received
reports
that
two
individuals
admitted
 themselves
to
counseling
services
for
help
with
pornography
addictions.
These
two
people
 who
will
now
receive
help
as
a
result
of
the
conference,
indicating
Citizens
for
Decency
is
 fulfilling
its
purpose.

 Citizens
for
Decency
has
also
received
feedback
that
as
a
result
of
the
conference,
college
 students
and
others
have
since
stood
up
against
inappropriate
pornographic
material
in
 stores.
The
conference
has
even
affected
teenage
boys
to
the
extent
of
counseling
their
 teenage
girl
friends
dress
more
modestly.

 Another
activity
to
increase
awareness
and
educate
teenagers,
Citizens
for
Decency
 initiated
"anti‐pornography
month"
at
local
high
schools.
Students
were
given
white
 wristbands
to
wear,
signifying
their
stance
against
pornography.
One
story
relayed
back
to
 the
organization
indicated
that
teenagers
were
telling
others
asking
about
the
wristbands
 that
they
were
wearing
them
to
take
a
stand
against
pornography.
