News Update “kotchadoingood!” Stacking Up for God Approximately 400 children on Thursday afternoon took their best shot against the clock with their newly-acquired, cup-stacking skills, while they also leaned how to put discipleship in action. The team from Speed Stacks Inc., under the leadership of Roger Washburn and Mark Lingle, challenged the NazKidz delegates to take their faith in Jesus Christ to their world through various life lessons and discipleship games. The children were taught the skill of cup stacking with a special set of Gospel Cups. The Gospel Cups consist of various colors that help the children share the story of Jesus Christ with friends and families. The colors found in the set includes: blue, standing for God’s creation; dark, indicating disobedience and sin; red, representing the blood that Jesus gave for our sin; white, for our forgiveness through Christ; green, to show our growth as disciples; and yellow, signifying heaven and eternal life through Jesus.

News Update news from the Board... Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Unity. With it, we can accomplish much. Without it, there is little we will ever do. Webster offers several definitions for unity. One is: “a condition of harmony.” But here is the one I find most accurately states the direction your church leadership is praying will be manifest among us in the days to come: “continuity without deviation or change (as in purpose or action).” The Board, Pastor Shawn and the entire staff are working toward ways to unite our church family around a common Heartbeat. It is our desire to see everyone pulling together; every ministry striving in the same direction; every effort expended in advancement toward a common goal. Scripture is very clear that it is in our best interest to be of one accord. In the 11th chapter of Luke, Jesus responds to the thoughts and words of some in the crowd who had just witnessed His casting out of a demon and were now accusing Him of using the power of Satan to expel demons. Look at Jesus' words. (Luke 11:17-18) Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: "Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall. If Satan is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand?..." Later in the same chapter, He says, (Luke 11:23) "He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me, scatters." This was in the context of discussing the (in)ability of a "strong man" to defend his house or anyone to resist evil on their own. He was simply establishing the fact that He, alone, can provide the strength necessary to be victorious in spiritual battles. It is, therefore, our resolute conviction to follow His leading and be a part of His plan for DFC as it is revealed through Pastor Shawn. You can look forward to intentional focus on impacting our world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and penetrating the darkness to reach lost souls. We will work to equip the saints to maximize each of our gifts and abilities. We each have a purpose to fulfill and contributions to make in the advancement of the Kingdom. Eternity is at stake for each person who has not accepted the gift of salvation available only through Jesus Christ. Now is the time for the harvest! Let us be diligent in our efforts! And, as always, let us give ultimate attention to increasing our intimacy with Him through prayer and the study of His Word. Serving Him Alongside of You, Vini Giannatala

The Children’s Department is so blessed! During the period of transition DFC has been experiencing, we have received the enthusiastic leadership of Kellie Sanford in Gr. 1-4. Kellie will now begin to join forces with Laura Nelson in leading Children’s Church for this age-group. We are pleased to announce the addition of Rev. Jerry Storz as Director of Gr. 1-4 during the remainder of the transition period. Jerry served as organizational leader of our recent VBS, “Crocodile Dock.” He has also served a leader of the Wednesday night programming, Peak-to-Peek. The following is a brief bio of Jerry. Let’s welcome him onto the team! Jerry Storz has been involved in children's ministry as a church staff member in The Church of the Nazarene in Kansas, Missouri, and Texas. He has served as a volunteer, leader and children's ministry trainer for ProKids Inc, Group Publishing, One Way Street, Inc., International Network of Children's Ministry, KidZ At Heart International and KidZMatter Ministries. He is a graduate of MidAmerica Nazarene College. He has a MA from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and is currently working on his doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Argosy University. He has been married to his wife Delberta for 27 years and they are the proud parents of the most hyper basset hound, "Flash" and the longest living bird named, "Wazzup" (going on 13 years and no signs of giving up life yet)!

News Update timely news for the congregation... Summer Summary Have you seen the STAPLES back-to-school commercial? If not, simply imagine a dad sailing down the aisles of the store on a shopping cart collecting school supplies as the music, It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, plays in the background. While the dad joyfully gathers the needed goods, his children are standing firmly in their tracks and sporting pouty faces. Clearly the dad is ready for summer to end. The kids, on the other hand, aren’t quite ready to bring their action packed summer to a close. Summer activities for children at DFC have certainly been filled with an exciting array of options. Promotion Sunday celebrations, Family Movie Night on the Lawn with one more movie being shown tonight, August 7 at 6:30 PM, Preschool Outings on selected Tuesdays, Family Night at Pirate’s Cove, and Crocodile Dock Vacation Bible School are examples of all that has kept our children busy, involved, and spending time together. Additionally, the Quiz Team traveled to Florida for General Assembly and our third through sixth graders spent a week away at Golden Bell Camp. In the midst of this action, our Sunday School teachers have not missed a beat. Each Sunday throughout the summer the teachers who serve in the Children’s Department have been “on duty” ready to share God’s Word with our kids. As a church family, we say thank you to those who have listened to God’s call and contributed to the outstanding summer programming in the Children’s Department. We can hardly wait to see what God has in store for our children as the momentum continues and we leap into the fall. “For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29: 11 NIV Sincerely, Susan Foster

News Update timely news for the congregation... Some of the Singles plan to attend the Signature Sound concert, Saturday, August 29, at 6pm.

THANK YOU to so many who have donated items in the past weeks for Mission:Denver hygiene packs. More are needed! Our next Mission:Denver is August 29. Please donate the following by leaving them at either the Missions Booth or Randy Smith’s office: White socks (one size fits all), Toothbrush (soft), Tooth paste, Bar soap. When you live so close to the edge, the margins of life are slim. Simple things make a big difference. Make a big difference in someone’s life TODAY! Provide a hygiene pack!

A FINAL WORD This past Friday and Saturday, the Promise Keepers event occurred. Where does one begin in an effort to highlight the highlights? I really don’t know. I will say that Tommy Barnett spoke with great effectiveness about our need to be a people of courageous vision who sense God’s leading, and follow, trusting Him to provide the means for the vision’s fulfillment. It was a vibrant, stirring, clarion call away from “business as usual’ and into the flow of God’s dynamic purpose. As a church, we have lived on the cutting edge of His purpose before; may we break through to that dimension of His enthralling grace once again. May it be so, Lord Jesus! On behalf of the Ministerial Staff of DFC, God bless you. Randy Smith
