This weeks comment: Each one must do what we were called to do. We were created for ‘good works’, to reflect the heart and love of God, to carry hope and light to the hopeless dark places and people. God loves people. We are created in His image and it is that image that Satan has tried to destroy, rob, kill whenever he could. So what we ‘do’ must be setting the captives of darkness and lies free or the ‘doing’ is without eternal purpose, and we will be ‘doing’ without achieving anything really worthwhile. There is a longing in each one to know our eternal purpose. The lie of the enemy is that we can find the answer here and now, doing what comes naturally, pleasing yourself and being blinded to the truth that our spiritual hunger cannot be satisfied with these earthly ‘pleasures’. Don’t be blinded with the temptation to eat from the tree of ‘what-about-me’. The truth is we gain nothing if we please our ‘selves’, and we will lose our souls if we persist in getting what the world offers. ‘For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain’ Phil. 1:21…I actually gain my life when I lose it in Christ. When He can live through me each and every day then the message of freedom will set the captive free, and when there is more of Him and less of me there is more glory for Him and less for me. When I think about the analogy of the human body to the Body of Christ I am amazed and delighted at the picture..especially when I see a beautiful athelete or dancer who has traiined and disciplined themselves to move in a very strong, co-ordinated way. It is a delightful and insightful picture of how we together can move under the guidance of the Holy Spirit to bring joy and freedom to those in the world who need it. Each of us was made especially to do a particular work, but we were never to see ourselves as being alone in this, doing what we have to do and then reporting back to our Creator to get a pat on the head. Our bodies are made up of hundreds of different cells that have a particular function in organs, muscles, skin, bones etc, each with a life span and boundaries. The analogy is that we, as individual cells, must live the life we have together, bringing the gifts and love we have been given as a living sacrifice, showing the beauty of the Body of Christ to those who don’t know their Creator yet. The Body must also look after itself and respect the other cells that belong to a different ‘organ’ or ‘muscle’, loving and caring for itself, being disciplined and trained to listen to the Lord of the Body. So the truth that will set the captive free will come at a price…as we lay down our life we are following the example of The Truth, who set us free. What an opportunity to make a difference in this world, especially in our church and our suburb, community, family that each of us relate to and are part of. Having fun loving my ‘Body’ Ps. Marie Albrecht
