Experimental High School of University of Macedonia Thessaloniki, Greece

NEWS 12th EPMeeting news There have beem four years since Experimental High School from Thessaloniki, Bunyan Anatolian High School and Liceo Boggio Lera from Catania first met as partners. During that period they cooperated in harmony, along with other schools which in the mean time left the program, issuing the EPMagazine three times per year. Unfortunately, the proposal (Comenius school partnership), which had been submitted to the European Union for the academic year 2008SOME EPM’s TEACHERS AT THE 12th EPMeeting 2009 was not approved. Nevertheless, the three above mentioned partners unanimously decided to go on with the EPMagazine, even without meetings around Europe, since there was no Comenius fund. In order to see how to organize our work and to submit a new proposal for the next academic year, 2009-2010, they decided to meet in Istanbul last January. Actually, this happened between 7 and 10 January 2009, with the valuable help of the Italian School of Istanbul (Ozel Italyan Lisesi), which hosted the EPMeeting . New potential partner schools were also invited to attend the EPMeeting and participate in the future project. Delegates from the following schools were present: a) Sebinkarahisar Ticaret Meslek Lisesi, from Sebinkarahisar/Gerasum, Turkey, b) 2nd Experimental Lyceum of Athens, from Athens, Greece, c) “V. Alecsandri” Teoretical School, from Iasi, Romania. A summary of the work carried out the last months was presented by the old partners and THE OFFICIAL PHOTO OF 12th EPMeeting new proposals were set for the future of the EPMagazine. All participants agreed that spreading of the magazine is one of the first targets. So they decided to dig it in. In addition the award for the best article of 2007 was given to Niğmet Çetiner, who is now student of English literature at Ankara University. Finally, the layouts of the EPMagazine for this year (2009) were selected to be those prepared by the student Recep Kongul from Bunyan Anatolian High School. A problem was realized when the discussion for a new application started, because it is

not allowed two schools from the same country to participate in the same Comenius project. So, it was decided to split into two groups which will submit two applications with common interest subject. In this way the two groups, if approved, they will be able to meet in the same country, the same time. The two groups were completed by other schools, absent from Istanbul meeting, which agreed to participate. The two groups are: 1) First EPMagazine Group Title: Various Cultures understanding Science Coordinator: Bunyan Anadolu Lisesi, Kayseri, Turkey 1st Partner: 2nd Experimental Lyceum of Athens, Greece. 2nd Partner: “V. Alecsandri” Teoretical School, Iasi, Romania 3th Partner: Liceo Statale Boggio Lera, Catania, Italy 4th Partner: Tallbackaskolan, Malmberget, Sweden. 5th Partner: 127SOU “Ivan Denkoglu”, Sofia, Bulgaria. 2) Second EPMagazine Group Title: Nature and Culture: Impact of Science and Technology Coordinator: Experimental School of Macedonia University, Thessaloniki, Greece 1st Partner: Sebinkarahisar Ticaret Meslek Lisesi, Sebinkarahisar/Gerasum, Turkey. nd 2 Partner: Vocational school of Economics “G. S. Rakovsky”, Bulgaria. 3rd Partner: Grup Şcolar de ConstrucŃii-Montaj “Mihai Bravu”, Bucharest, Romania. th 4 Partner: Liceo Statale Fermi, Paternò, Italy. Associate partner: National Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics, Center for Science Education and Training, Magurele, Romania In the parallel events, partners participated in a charity dinner organized by the Italian community of Istanbul, which included a reception, dinner and live Italian, Turkish and Greek music. Finally, last working day they had a welfare dinner in Sarai restaurant, where they had a pleasant discussion of their experiences. All partners feel obliged to thank the Italian School of Istanbul, the Headmistress Ms Laudomia Benedetti, Ms Lina Augello and the school personnel for their warm hospitality.
