Medium yellow colour with some pink tinge. Note this grape does have pink in it's skin. Bouquet has some oak and aromas of peach and other sweet fruits. Low acidity, has some sweetness, and flavours of peach, lime and 2001 some spice. Bouquet was oaky (although it is unoaked), with dillweed, grassy and candy 1995 on the nose. Oaky and lemony flavours. Light red appearance. Bouquet was light and of red fruits. Strong tannins, 1999 and a short length. Some sweet fruit flavours.

The grapes come from 6 different regions of Australia. This wine was inky dark, leaving long tears on the sides of the glass. The bouquet showed some oak from both French and American barrels along with blackcurrant 2000 aroma. Smooth tannins. Some chalkiness, oak and spice on the palate. Pale straw colour with light fragrances of peach and flowers and a sweet, 2004 peachy finish on the palate.

Brickish appearance. The bouquet was of black tea, as well as a dustiness. 1998 Very smooth with a medium body. Some cherry flavours. Still very youthful, but could afford 8 years of aging potential. This wine was purple in the glass. The bouquet had capsicum, cherries, raspberries and 2001 floral notes. Medium tannins and sour cherry flavours. NV

Brillant golden colour and had honey, apple, biscuity aromas and flavours. Light/medium red in colour. Herbaceous, smoky, sausage aromas. Tannins 2003 were a bit harsh. Flavours of red fruits and a hit of banana. Very deep red in appearance. Bouquet was very fragrant, with dark red fruits, oak, tar and cocolate. Very round mouthfeel, with some sweetness. 2001 There was also some chocolate, coffee and spicy flavours. Very long length.

This wine was purple in the glass, very extracted. The bouquet was very complex. Early on there was a barnyard aroma, but as the wine aired, this aroma faded and one then was treated to violet, coffee, sweet, and smoky aromas. One tasted red cherries, some spiciness, and chocolate. The 2003 tannins were supple and the oak well integrated.

Part of the first vineyard in South Africa. Wine depends on the grapes being affected by the botrytis cinerea fungus. This only occurs in years when it is cool and damp during the harvest. Brilliant orangey hue in the glass. Wonderful apricot, honey and botrytis (honeysuckle) aromas. Good acidity to keep the wine refreshing and not cloyingly sweet. Flavours of oak, honey, 1996 apricot and marmalade. Wonderful cherries and vanilla aroma and flavour. The vanilla coming from 2000 aging the wine in American oak. Silky smooth, with good acidity to balance the sugar. It had a honeyed nose 2001 and flavour. Pronounced peach and melon aroma and flavour. Good acidity and 2000 pronounced fruit. Huge flowery bouquet. No typical Gewurztraminer aromas or flavours here. 2003 Ginger, cloves and cinnamon flavours, without being overbearing. This wine was purposely oxidized giving it it's dark reddish brown colouration. Wonderful plum pudding aroma and flavour. Dusty aroma and a faint smell of nail polish, which is one of the aromas 1998 known for Pinotage. It was quite hot on the tongue. Light pinkish in the glass. Excellent balance with all the elements of fruit, brandy, sugar, oak and acidity. A bit of maderized aroma and oak and had some coffee/toffee flavour. Very grapey aroma with some leather. It had a deep, opaque purple colour 2000 which coated the glass when it was swirled. Good acidity and tannin.

Pinotage

Some brickish colour on the edges of the glass. Some spicy, leathery and 1995 chocolate notes. Very fruity bouquet with lots of fruit and cherries in the taste. It was a very 2000 easy to drink wine with no tannic aftertaste.

A vintage champagne-type wine. Classic blend of 50% chardonnay and 50% pinot noir. Pleasant biscuity aroma, leading to a leesy creaminess 1997 taste with fine bubbles. Pale straw in appearance, with a citrus and gooseberry bouquet and taste of 2002 passionfruit, ripe fruit in general and some citrus.

Affected by botrytis, a fungus that affects grapes by drawing out the water from the grapes, leaving the concentrated sugar and flavours intact. Deep amber colour. Bouquet showed honey, almonds and apricots. Apricots and marmalade flavours were tasted. Good acidity which balanced the 2001 sweetness of this wine.

The bouquet showed gooseberry, passionfruit, and stone 2000 fruit aromas. On the palate was tropical fruit flavours and good acidity Golden appear, with peaches, petrol, apple and pineapple aromas. There 2000 was some acid and a good finish. 2000 Aromas of peache, pineapple, lime and melon. Flavours of nectarine and lime. There was spiciness and acidity on the 2002 palate Light red with some brown on the edges. Brown edge normal for New Zealand pinot noirs. Bouquet had oak, herbaceousness and fruit. The taste 2000 was smooth, with cherries and some spice. Medicinal, cherry and raspberry aromas. Light acidity, smooth, and had 2002 some oak. Candy cherry and ripe berry fruit aromas. Ripe cherries, some spice and 2001 acidity flavours. Some tannins. Pale straw-green colour. The bouquet showed tropical fruits and grapefruit aromas. This bouquet persisted on the palate, and had good acidity

More intense bouquet and flavours than found in the regular Dona Paula, but was more integrated than it's sibling. The wine was deep ruby red. The wine had oak, followed by cherries and blackberries on the palate with a 1992 medium to long finish. Quite closed but had some notes of red berries and mint. The flavours was 2002 mainly of oak, with very little fruit. Deep, purple appearance in the glass. Spice, cherries, violets and pencil shavings aromas. Very smooth and full with nice tannins. Dark fruit and 2002 chocolate were also present. Petrol aroma, which older riesling wines exhibit, along with citrus and stone 2002 fruits. It was semi-sweet on the palate with ligh acidity.

It had a very intense aromas of sausage, smokiness, 2003 menthol and cherries. Good tannins with some sweetness. Black-purple coloured. Some sweet candy, oak, and dark fruit aromas. Very intense on the palate. Some sweetness, a round mouthfeel, and not 2003 overpowering tannins. Long finish. Deeply coloured, purple. Caramel, vanilla, chocolate and cherry aromas. 2003 Big mouthfeel to this wine. Tannins were not overpowering.

Merlot

Many aromas, such as cedar, coffee, dark fruit and violet (which I think is from the Petit Verdot). This wine was spicy and had flavours of blackberries and cherries, with some sweetness. Tannins were not too strong. A well 2003 integrated wine. Dusty, cedar, chocolate and dark fruit aromas. Very smooth with a good 2002 mouthfeel and long length. Flavours of cherries and blackberries. Fresh acidity and flavours of melon, apple, grass, and hints of mineral. It 2004 had a long finish with a lush mouthfeel. Notes of petrol, apple, hints of raisin and kiwi and finishing dry with a fresh 2004 acidity. Medium bodied with a wonderful, slightly oily texture and showed peach, 2004 lime and green apple notes. Flavours of wild strawberry, Bing cherry, backed by a lightly spicy finish with 2004 moderate acidity.

As this is an aged sauvignon blanc, the wine was golden in colour. Vegetal, honey, and apricot aromas. Some acidity and a nice round mouthfeel. Due 2000 to the aging, it also had a woody/nutty flavour.

Paretai is a Maori word for river bank. This was was pale straw in appearance but left big legs in the glass. It had a petrolly, citrus and pine 2005 needle aromas. There was nutty, citrusy and oily flavours.

Showed typical bright cirtrus flavour with some tarriness on the bouquet. 2001 The wine had a very smooth mouthfeel with just the right amount of acidity. Medium straw appearance. The bouquet was of oak and beeswax. Oak and 2003 spice followed on the palate Deep purple in colour and had wonderful black cherry flavour, with 2000 sweetness and some warmth from the alcohol.

Some 2007 roundness in the mouth. Vanilla, apple and pear flavours. Watery lemon colour. Stone fruit aromas. Good acidity, with stone fruit and 2008 citrus flavours. Pale lemon colour. Green apple aroma and crips apple flavour. Tart. 2008 Refreshing. Lychee and tropical fruit aromas. Round mouth feel. Lychee, apple and 2008 lime flavours. Medium reddish purple. Very aromatic with red cherry and raspberry. Nice 2007 legs. Red cherry and raspberry flavours. Very fruity. Dry tannic finish.

Pinot Noir

Light cherry colour. Strawberry and raspberry aroma, with some black cherry in the background. Medium tannins with good acidity. Smoky, 2006 cherry flavours. Light garnet. Smoky, strawberry and cherry nose. Sweet cherry and vanilla 2007 on the palate. Light tannins with vanilla on the finish.

Pinotage

Purple in the glass. Black currant, cedar, black fruit and spice on the nose. 2007 Round mouthfeel. Black sweet fruit. Dry tannins with a cherry finish.

A botrytis affected icewine. Bright lemon colour. Honey and marmalade on the nose. Unctus in the mouth with honey and pineapple flavours. Good 2007 acid to balance the sugar.

A very different white blend that works. Lemon colour. Pineapple and spice 2007 aromas. More pineapple on the palate. Round mouthfeel. Single vineyard. Slight oaky aroma and lime. Topical fruit flavour with a 2006 vanilla finish. Medium body, some roundness on the palate. Pale straw coloured. Oak, vanilla, and pineapple aromas. Oak, apple and 2006 citrus flavours. Light acidity, but very fruity.
