Medium yellow colour with some pink tinge. Note this grape does have pink in it's skin. Bouquet has some oak and aromas of peach and other sweet fruits. Low acidity, has some sweetness, and flavours of peach, lime and 2001 some spice. Bouquet was oaky (although it is unoaked), with dillweed, grassy and candy 1995 on the nose. Oaky and lemony flavours. Light red appearance. Bouquet was light and of red fruits. Strong tannins, 1999 and a short length. Some sweet fruit flavours.

This wine is big and bold. The colour is inky dark. It has a eucalyptus, savory, chocolate and vanilla bouquet (The vanilla coming from aging in all American oak barrels). The flavours are of oak, vanilla and black cherry with 1999 a long finsih and smooth tannins.

The grapes come from 6 different regions of Australia. This wine was inky dark, leaving long tears on the sides of the glass. The bouquet showed some oak from both French and American barrels along with blackcurrant 2000 aroma. Smooth tannins. Some chalkiness, oak and spice on the palate. Pale straw colour with light fragrances of peach and flowers and a sweet, 2004 peachy finish on the palate.

Produced with the biodynamic method. Ruby purple in the glass. Bouquet had cherries, sweet oak, nutmeg and cinnamon. Flavours of dark fruit and 2001 vanilla. Medium tannins. Ready to drink. Brickish appearance. The bouquet was of black tea, as well as a dustiness. 1998 Very smooth with a medium body. Some cherry flavours. Still very youthful, but could afford 8 years of aging potential. This wine was purple in the glass. The bouquet had capsicum, cherries, raspberries and 2001 floral notes. Medium tannins and sour cherry flavours.

Brillant golden colour and had honey, apple, biscuity aromas and flavours. Light/medium red in colour. Herbaceous, smoky, sausage aromas. Tannins 2003 were a bit harsh. Flavours of red fruits and a hit of banana.

Pinotage

Very deep red in appearance. Bouquet was very fragrant, with dark red fruits, oak, tar and cocolate. Very round mouthfeel, with some sweetness. 2001 There was also some chocolate, coffee and spicy flavours. Very long length.

Merlot

The wine had a brown appearance with a brickish edge. The wine had a very pronounced pruney / porty aroma. The portiness continued on the 1998 palate, along with red fruits. it did have a nice mouthfeel and long finish.

Deep red in appearance. It had a complex bouquet, with herbacious, green peppers and smokiness. This wine had very little fruit flavour. The wine was 1999 tannic with some bitterness.

This wine was purple in the glass, very extracted. The bouquet was very complex. Early on there was a barnyard aroma, but as the wine aired, this aroma faded and one then was treated to violet, coffee, sweet, and smoky aromas. One tasted red cherries, some spiciness, and chocolate. The 2003 tannins were supple and the oak well integrated.

Light pinkish in the glass. Excellent balance with all the elements of fruit, brandy, sugar, oak and acidity. A bit of maderized aroma and oak and had some coffee/toffee flavour.

Pinotage

Very grapey aroma with some leather. It had a deep, opaque purple colour 2000 which coated the glass when it was swirled. Good acidity and tannin. Some brickish colour on the edges of the glass. Some spicy, leathery and 1995 chocolate notes. Very fruity bouquet with lots of fruit and cherries in the taste. It was a very 2000 easy to drink wine with no tannic aftertaste. A vintage champagne-type wine. Classic blend of 50% chardonnay and 50% pinot noir. Pleasant biscuity aroma, leading to a leesy creaminess 1997 taste with fine bubbles. Pale straw in appearance, with a citrus and gooseberry bouquet and taste of 2002 passionfruit, ripe fruit in general and some citrus.

Shiraz Vintage Port

Part of the first vineyard in South Africa. Wine depends on the grapes being affected by the botrytis cinerea fungus. This only occurs in years when it is cool and damp during the harvest. Brilliant orangey hue in the glass. Wonderful apricot, honey and botrytis (honeysuckle) aromas. Good acidity to keep the wine refreshing and not cloyingly sweet. Flavours of oak, honey, 1996 apricot and marmalade. Wonderful cherries and vanilla aroma and flavour. The vanilla coming from 2000 aging the wine in American oak. Silky smooth, with good acidity to balance the sugar. It had a honeyed nose 2001 and flavour. Pronounced peach and melon aroma and flavour. Good acidity and 2000 pronounced fruit. Huge flowery bouquet. No typical Gewurztraminer aromas or flavours here. 2003 Ginger, cloves and cinnamon flavours, without being overbearing. This wine was purposely oxidized giving it it's dark reddish brown colouration. Wonderful plum pudding aroma and flavour. Dusty aroma and a faint smell of nail polish, which is one of the aromas 1998 known for Pinotage. It was quite hot on the tongue.

Affected by botrytis, a fungus that affects grapes by drawing out the water from the grapes, leaving the concentrated sugar and flavours intact. Deep amber colour. Bouquet showed honey, almonds and apricots. Apricots and marmalade flavours were tasted. The flavours was 2002 mainly of oak, with very little fruit.

As this is an aged sauvignon blanc, the wine was golden in colour. Vegetal, honey, and apricot aromas. Some acidity and a nice round mouthfeel. Due 2000 to the aging, it also had a woody/nutty flavour.

Paretai is a Maori word for river bank. This was was pale straw in appearance but left big legs in the glass. It had a petrolly, citrus and pine 2005 needle aromas. There was nutty, citrusy and oily flavours.

Showed typical bright cirtrus flavour with some tarriness on the bouquet. 2001 The wine had a very smooth mouthfeel with just the right amount of acidity. Medium straw appearance. The bouquet was of oak and beeswax. Oak and 2003 spice followed on the palate Deep purple in colour and had wonderful black cherry flavour, with 2000 sweetness and some warmth from the alcohol.
