Iota Xi Chapter Minutes March 05, 2009

1. Membership and Orientations •

Spring Induction: This will be the biggest induction so far with a total of 70 members. Everything is going as planned, which includes scripts and sign-ups for helping with the event. Officers and Current Members will arrive at 4.30pm in order to set-up for orientation. New Members will arrive at 6.45pm dressed

professionally. The former PTK president as well as the N.J. State president will be able to make it. •

Springs Honors Luncheon: The Spring Honors Luncheon will take place on March 7 from 12.30pm-2.30pm. PTK officers will arrive at 11.00am to set-up; a list was passed to confirm what food the officers were bringing. The speaker for the Luncheon will be Professor Shalan. Former PTK members will be coming such as Mickey Singer, Nazareth Moto, and Kristy. Hudson County will also attend.

Fundraising &Service Projects •

Spring Book Sale: The PTK book sale has made a profit of $1600. Thanks to all PTK members that helped out during the book sale.



Spring Blood Drive: There will be a blood drive on March 10th from 9am to 2.30pm. There have been a total of 100 sign-ups for blood donation.



Earth Day: Earth Day will take place on March 20th. There will be a fundraiser using reusable shopping bags with the PTK colors, blue and gold with yellow or gold printing. Quotes from affordable bags were shown with logos that are Earth friendly. The price for one side of a bag will be $2.75 and $3.15 for both sides. It will take 2-3 weeks to order; therefore the decision will be made soon. These bags will be sold at International Convention.



E-Cycling: PTK Officer Chris discussed the upcoming e-cycling event and will get confirmation soon on the application process. This event will take place a week after spring break. PTK members will speak in classes. The top 3 wireless devices to be recycled are cell phones, PDA, and handheld organizers. People interested in donating these wireless devices should put the items in the Cranford or Elizabeth Library. All proceeds go towards Relay for Life.



Relay for Life: PTK has made a total of $300 for Relay for Life. Relay for Life is an organization that raises money for cancer awareness. Spots are still available in order to PTK members to sign-up for the event on May 29, 2009.

3. Club Mixers •

Psi Beta: The Psi Beta vice president Anson stopped by to pitch his idea for a Talent Show. He passed out flyers which explain the event and requested PTK’s help in order to pull their resources and work together. The equal costs from the Talent Show will be 50-50. The chair of committee is the President Kevan Pidgeon Hammock; questions will be directed to him or to an email at [email protected]. The price for entrance will be announced in the near future.



Alumni Association: Jeff, a member of the Alumni Association stopped by to pitch ideas in mixing with PTK for events. An idea

pitched by Jeff was to have a Woman’s History Month event. Another proposal was mixing with PTK and Student Government Association in order to host a dance together. He also said he will help with the event by finding out the price of a DJ to play at the dance. A rough estimate for the DJ and dance lessons is $500. Jeff went on to explain benefits of joining the Alumni Association such as discounts to the school library and gym. •

History Club: The president of the History Club came in order to discuss joining together for a Game Night. The profits will be split in half; more information will be announced in future meetings. She also discussed a Trip to Broadway, in which history club is hosting. It will be free for students; however there is limited space and a $10 refundable fee.

4. Other Announcements •

T-shirts: New quotes for PTK shirts will be 100 shirts for the price of $275 which includes one side and for two sides will be $375. The sizes range from small to x-large.



Video-game Tournament: A possible event proposed by the PTK president Maria and Joe Eulo is a video-game tournament in which competitors will complete for a prize. The date will be sometime before graduation, possibly the Friday, May 15 before exams. The place for the tournament will possibly be in the North or South Lecture Hall. There might be two rooms to host

different tournaments and the rooms might possibly be linked. There will be a double elimination tournament in which players compete for a prize. The games that might be included will be Guitar Hero, Wii Bowling, Street Fighter, and Super Smash Brawl. The entry for joining this tournament is $10 and refreshments served include pizza. If outside people are to come, trained police officers must come. •

Masquerade Ball: PTK plans to raise money through a Masquerade Ball in order to support the Down Syndrome Research and Treatment Foundation. The theme of the dance will be Italian and people attending will wear eye masks. Also, PTK officers will be auctioned off for dances. PTK has an objective of raising a minimum of $300. The entrance fee will be around $1012 for students, which includes food and drinks; the cost for couples will be $15. The possible dates for the Masquerade Ball will be Friday, April 3rd or Saturday, April 4th or Friday, April 24th or Saturday, April 25th. The location of the dance is still in progress but it might be the Elizabeth or Cranford Cafeteria. Committees for the Masquerade Ball are Food, Entertainment, Masquerade Masks, Advertising, Decoration, and Auction Committee. Possible prices for masquerade masks are $50 for 50 masks, which can be ordered online. More information will be presented next week. The committee leader of this event, Robert W. Fernandez will

meet with SGA and Alumni Association Jeff in order to sponsor the event together. •

Candy Bars distribution: A PTK member brought up the idea in which we should but chocolate online for 50 cents and sell them for a higher price. The sticker for the candy bars represents NJ family. The organization NJ family purpose includes raising funds for children who cannot afford to eat breakfast. All money earned will go towards charities.

Next Meeting: Thursday, March 12, 2009 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm in the alumni conference room in the Nomahegan building.
