1. Honors in Art Panel
The Honors in Art Panel will take place on November 12th, replacing our meeting for that Thursday. The Admiral Stanley room is our preferred choice and is open for that day. The room fits 40 people. The panel will be open to everyone and we’re planning on three faculty members and one student speaking. The panel will answer issue #2 of the honors study topic: How do the fine arts shape and reflect the paradox of affluence? Questions for the speakers are provided in the study guide and there will be follow up questions. Prof. Cuttita will be the first faculty member to be approached and later on we’ll try to approach Prof. Nicoli. Some members have brought up the idea of inviting alumni artists or approaching the resident curator. Also, we should look into videotaping or audio recording the panel.
2. Mentoring Program
Those who attended the mentoring seminar had fun. Michael Murphy was a great speaker. Some great ideas came out of the seminar, such as a timer during presentations and info cards for mentors. So far we have 8 mentors but you can still be a mentor even if you didn’t attend the seminar.
3. New Members Update
We have 73 new Phi Theta Kappa members, which is the highest number we’ve ever had. Just a side note, the number of mentees for each mentor will be 73/number of mentors.
4. Induction
Remember to wear your Sunday best. The induction is 5pm but make sure to be there, in line, with info in-hand by 6:45pm. The ceremony lasts 1 hour and officers must stay to clean up.
5. Luncheon
Officers going to the leadership conference can’t go to the luncheon, but everyone please contribute. Those going to the leadership conference can drop something off as long as it’s non-perishable. The speaker for the luncheon will be Prof. Gouveia and her topic will be affluent women and their influences in the fashion industry. For those officers attending the luncheon, arrive by 11am and new members should arrive at 12:15pm. There will be mentoring at the end. Let Prof. Stokes know if there are any dietary needs.
6. Updates
92 units of blood were donated at the blood drive, compared to only 77 units last semester. The ALYX machines were maxed out.
We need people for the book sale breakdown at 5pm on Friday. We share that storeroom and need to keep it organized. There’ll be a free table on Friday if anyone wants a free book.
Next Meeting: Thursday, October 15th at 12:30 PM in the alumni conference room in the Nomahegan building.
