MALAYSIA BIBLE SEMINARY MODULAR COURSES June 22-October 30, 2009 ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Ecclesiastes Dr. Leong Tien Fock Course Description: This course of study is based on Our Reason for Being, a book-length exposition of Ecclesiastes available at http://ourreasonforbeing.blogspot.com, which substitutes for core lectures. Ecclesiastes presents a comprehensive theology on the meaning of life and how to experience it. So it speaks powerfully to Christians as well as nonChristians. But it is also one of the most difficult Biblical books to interpret. The purpose of this course is to help Christians overcome this obstacle and apply the theology, whether in a personal, pastoral or a missional context. Course Format: Students will mostly be studying on their own. There will be four 2-hours class sessions during the course of the study, with one at the beginning and one towards the end. There are prescribed readings to be completed before each session, except for the first. In between sessions students can interact with the instructor through email. Schedule of Class Sessions: Venue: MBS Recreation & Training Centre, Rawang Date: June 30, July 28, Aug. 25, Sept. 29, 2009 Time: 10.00am – 12.00pm

Mentoring Rev. Dr. Tony Lim

Course Description The role of a mentor is a time honoured position. Mentors help shape, mould and influence lives that in turn will make a difference in families, churches and societies. The need for a mentor is never more pressing than today. For we are living in turbulent, difficult and perplexing times. The old ways of doing things do not seem to work anymore. Relationships more often than not inexplicably become treacherous leaving people confused and hurt. Thus the role of a mentor will have to include helping Christians discover their real self in Christ as well as to find meaning in life. However mentoring as understood biblically and theologically also has a deeper emphasis that is intrinsically different. As Dr. Houston exhorts us in his book the The Mentored Life, fundamentally we go to a Christian mentor: “...who will help us be all we can be by Christ. The mentored life is one in which we constantly look to Christ for guidance, answers and fulfilment.” This course on mentoring will major on the brick and mortar of being such a mentor. We will discover that the focus of attention in Christian mentoring is Christ and not ourselves. We will explore together how to invite the Holy Spirit to come alongside us in the journey to know Christ, to love Christ and ultimately to live out Christlike lives in the midst of the uncertainties, doubts and vicissitudes of life.
