The Power of an Invitation It doesn’t matter how sophisticated society becomes, nor how advanced technology gets, there is something special about receiving an invitation. We live in a society where invitations to events like weddings, graduations, and birthday parties are used constantly. In fact, the design and production of these invitations is a big business.

Worship With Us Sunday: Worship 9 AM & 6 PM * Bible Classes 10:20 AM Wednesday: Bible Classes 7 PM

Hope For The Hurting The elders recently purchased a video series of lessons with the above title by Dr. H. Norman Wright along with eleven other professional counselors. The primary purpose of these lessons is to train individual Christians on how to minister to others experiencing a crisis or a loss. If you are interested in these lessons, a sign up sheet is being made available and the class time and procedure will be determined by the amount of interest.

Trunk or Treat

Trunk or Treat #2

Sunday, October 25th Immediately following evening worship.

Saturday, October 31st In Beech Island, SC We will be hosting a Trunk or Treat and Ice cream fellowship.

Decorate your vehicle and bring candy for the children. Bring finger foods for after the trick or treating. Prizes will be awarded for best decorated vehicle and best costumes!

Beginning October 18th we will be collecting individually wrapped Halloween candy. We also need to borrow a few ice cream makers.

Even in the digital age, “e-vites” can be sent for different events. Many use this technology to build guest lists for parties, retreats, and other events. Why? Because they work! No matter the method, invitations work. Jesus understood that, so He offered the greatest invitation ever extended. He said, Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28) Early followers understood the power of an invitation. Perhaps none is more famous than Philip. When he tried to tell Nathan-

Adam Faughn ael that he had found the One spoken of the Old Testament, Nathanael asked, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip responded with a simple but profound invitation: “Come and see” (John 1:45-46). If we are so serious about invitng people to weddings, parties, and other good events, why not take seriously the possibility of inviting others to worship their Creator? It doesn’t have to be a fancy card or a professional email; in fact, a face-to-face conversation will probably work better. There is something powerful about being told, “You are invited.” Let someone you love know that he or she is invited to meet the Savior this Sunday.

∞ Make a list of five people you will invite and then follow through. I’m already working on my list. Will you join me? We each know many who need to hear about the Savior!

“WHAT GOD CAN DO WITH YOU” Returning to Antioch upon the completion of Paul’s first missionary journey, Paul and Barnabas gathered the church together and “rehearsed all that God had done with them.” (Acts 14:27) Through time God has used human instrumentality to accomplish his plans. Consider how he used Moses to deliver Israel from Egypt. Remember how he used Joshua to conquer Canaan. Contemplate how he used Nehemiah to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Think how he used Esther to save the nation of Israel. Study how he used Jonah to turn the city of Nineveh. Read how he used Paul to evangelize continents. In the twenty-first century, God is still using men, women, boys and girls to do His will and work. God can use your hands to do His work (Eccles. 9:10); your tongue to tell His story (Matt. 28:19); your feet to go into the world (Mark 16:16); and your back to bear the burdens of others (Gal. 6:2). May we as members of the Lord’s church ever conceive of ourselves as instruments in the hands of God, as “labourers together with God.” (1 Cor. 3:9) Let us ever resolve to let God work through us. Then, our challenges, which are great, will be met, and our possibilities, which are unlimited, will be attained. Harry D. Middleton

The best thing about working with the Lebanon Road congregation is: the people. I had so much fun last Sunday evening when some of the youth came to the house to hang out. Our young people are so wonderful and so talented. Every time I think about our youth, a smile comes to my face because of how special they are. I would encourage the young folks to fight the good fight and keep trying to do what is right. It is tough to be young, but you are doing a very excellent job. Keep up the good work! I hope everyone is getting ready for our costume party and lock-in October 23-24. We need video cameras for a special project during our lock-in, so if you know of one we can use, please let me know. For this year, we will be making homemade scary movies during our lock-in. Start thinking up ideas for your movie and come prepared for a scare on October 23! There are sign-up sheets for Fall Retreat, EU, and CYC. Please sign-up by the youth room! Thank you very much! --JD :)
