Special Servants

Adam Faughn

The words to a song often sung by our young people include these powerful and beautiful words: Make me a servant, Lord, make me like You. For You are a servant,

A Note of Admiration As we continue to work alongside the members of the Lebanon Road church of Christ, we are continually amazed at how many good things are done. Many kind acts go mostly unnoticed. Though unnoticed by “the masses,” those acts are still much appreciated. Many teach classes, deliver food, watch children, make phone calls and visits, send emails and cards, and do scores of other good works that are only known by a few. This was brought to my mind again Monday evening in another town. Our family pulled up to the Main Street church of

Make me one, too. Make me a servant;

Adam Faughn Christ building in Mt. Pleasant for the visitation with Mrs. Tina Kersey’s family. The line was quite long, but, as we got closer, we noticed more and more folks from Lebanon Road who had made the 75 minute drive and stood in cool weather to share love and comfort with the family. I have no idea how many from Lebanon Road were there, but I would guess it was at least 50. Many others made the drive the next day for the funeral service. As we drove home, Leah and I said several times that we are so glad that we are at a place where so many would give up their time to make the trip and then meet with the family. I know it was ap-

preciated by Maria and her family, and God must be pleased by those who give of their time for similar things often. We are continually amazed at both the talent and the willingness to use talent that is found here. May we never lose that attitude at Lebanon Road. May each of us constantly seek ways to teach someone, encourage someone, and glorify God by the talents with which He has blessed us. May God be glorified through the good deeds done by our congregation. Thank you...for being you!

Do what You must do To make me a servant, Lord, make me like You. Truly, our God serves our greatest needs. He provides us even with the air we breathe and the food we consume. These “simple” blessings are often overlooked, but they come from a heart of love and mercy. They come from the loving heart of a loving God. They come from the ultimate servant’s heart. Christians are told to be like their Father. We are to live Godly lives, and we should seek to have

the qualities and characteristics of God. We should do our best to grow those qualities daily. If God is a serving God, then we should also be serving. Jesus was an amazing servant, and we should strive to be like Him daily. While every Christian should strive to be more like God and His Son, there are some who are appointed to be special servants. The Bible calls them “deacons.” These men are servants in a very special way, and they strive to aid the church in maintaining and growing in various areas as set by the elders, under whom they serve. This morning, we will look at some Bible facts about deacons. We want the Lebanon Road church of Christ to be organized Scripturally, so we must understand exactly what “roles” individuals are to play. Join us for this special lesson, and a very special day. It is the Lord’s day. That makes it special!
