“Pause” and be Thankful? My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. It is a very important day, but some of the phrases we use this time of year confuse me. We often hear people say that they like Thanksgiving because it gives people a chance to “pause and be thankful.” Have you ever thought about what they are really saying? We are too busy to be thankful in our “normal” lives! If that’s the case, then we are too busy, and that’s really sad.

Worship With Us Sunday: Worship 9 AM & 6 PM * Bible Classes 10:20 AM Wednesday: Bible Classes 7 PM

Thanksgiving T is for the Tender care He gives to us each day. H is for the Helping hands that guide us on our way.

G is for His saving Grace. I is for the Insurance of a home in Heaven. V is for His Victory over death.

A is for Adoring eyes that watch over us at night.

I is for Innocent because I have been forgiven.

N is for His Never-ending light.

N is for His gentle Nature.

K is for Kindness He shows to you and me.

G is for the Greatest Gift of all— Jesus Christ.

S is for Suffering on the cruel tree.

The office staff of the Lebanon Road church of Christ wishes you and your family a happy Thanksgiving. May we all remember the One who blesses us with all good and perfect gifts. JD Buckner Adam Faughn Nancy Markwood Harry Middleton

In fact, how many of us “pause” even on Thanksgiving for more than just a couple of minutes? We have to prepare the huge meal, maybe do some traveling, visit with our family, watch football, get dressed up for a party, and so many other things that even our “pausing” can sometimes be nothing more than a 30-second prayer just before our feast.

Adam Faughn minute break somewhere in the day to pray or just think on those things for which you are thankful? Could you and your family not take a moment to make a prayer “list” of some of the things for which you are thankful before praying together? How about taking just a moment to read some of the passages of the Bible that remind us of what God has given us from His love? You see, none of these takes more than just a few moments, but they will help us really focus on what we should be doing on this day. We show our family that we are thankful by traveling or hosting and being present. Why not do the same with God? Show Him your gratitude by taking a few minutes to communicate with Him in prayers of thanksgiving…...and try to do so everyday.

I’m not suggesting that we shouldn’t enjoy the activities of the day, but I am suggesting that we take a few more moments than that to be thankful. Can you take even a 10-

As I was going through my box, I came across this excellent article on CHURCH GROWTH and I would like to share it with you. Brother Cleon Lyles worked with the Sixth and Izzard congregation in Little Rock, Arkansas, for 25 years. During his time there, that congregation was responsible for planting most of the other congregations in the Little Rock area. Through many years of trial and error and a great deal of reflection, Brother Lyles truly learned what is required for church growth. DESIRE – We must want to grow and be willing to pay the price. VISION – We must dream and be goal oriented. ATMOSPHERE – There must be a mood of friendliness and enthusiasm. A STRONG PULPIT – The average tenure for the preacher of the ten largest churches is 24 years. (Consider Madison where Ira North stayed for 31 years.) INVOLVEMENT – People must find their gift and use it. UNITY IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL – A church can drift into discord. PLANNING – We must be idealistic but also realistic. PRAISE – Honor to whom honor is due. PERSISTENCE – Stay with it without giving up.

JD’S Jargon Hello everyone! We have some exciting times in the past week! Our Youth Retreat went splendidly. Almost 40 of us went to Camp Meribah in Centerville, TN last weekend to participate in worship and Christian fellowship. It was a blast! I would like to thank Laura and Tony, Mike and Nancy, Scotty and Allison, Pam, Kim, Mark, Maria, and all those who made our retreat great. Our Harvest Banquet was this Friday, we had a Rake-n-Run this Saturday, and a Sycamore Service today. We would like to have many students participate in our Sycamore Service, so please encourage your kids to be here at 1:45 this afternoon! Our Young Men's Service is next Sunday. We also have a devo next Sunday hosted by the LeSuer family. Please make your plans to join us for these events! Thank you very much!

VISITATION TEAM #2 AND LETTER WRITERS WILL MEET AFTER WORSHIP SUNDAY EVENING.
