Carol Ash Office of the Commissioner NYS office of Parks, Recreation and Historic preservation Empire State Plaza, Agency Building #l Albany, New York 12235 Dear Commissioner Ash:

I read and listened with great interest to Governor Spitzer's State of the State Address in which he mentioned a proposal for $ 100 million in capital spending to revitalize New york,s park sy.stem. I could not agree more that one of the building blocks for livable cornmunities is "open space - clean, safe, attractive parks."

I would like to think that the Governor's proposal was an outgrowth of my efforts in pursuing a statewide bond act for park improvements. That being.uie t also read an article in the January I I th, 2008 Saratogian in which the Saratoga-capital Region's assistant director has publicly outlined a "wish list" of priority park projects that would be pursued upon the Legislature's adoption of the Governor's budget. Based upon the article, it appears that your office has directed staff statewide to review and identifu needs within the park system and that that review has been ongoing fbr the past several months' Given the fact that the saratoga-capital Region has gone iublic with its list of priority projects, I would greatly appreciate an itemiied list of all ttre prolects identified for the Long Island Region along with the estimated costs for each project.

Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter. I look forward to your reply.

Enclosure cc: Ron Foley, LI Regional Dir
