INDIGENAS TUCANS 1. Where have the indigenous community been living? - The Tucano has been living on the Vaupés River, on the border with the departments of Guainía and Vichada and on the Papurí and Paca rivers, on the border with the neighboring Republic of Brazil. They are also found in the headwaters of the rivers Unilla, Utía and Pacoa, department of Vaupés. - Although, they currently have been living in single-family houses grouped in sidewalks, in some communities there are malokas that function as meeting places of a political and cultural nature.

What kind of language does the indigenous community speak? - Tucano´s community belongs to the Eastern Tucano linguistic family. The sociolinguistic survey applied by the Ministry of Culture to these two indigenous groups of Vaupés resulted in 81% (1,618) of the Tucanos and 97% (1,238) of the Cubans speaking their native language.

3. What types of food has the indigenous community grown? - They have grown in the garden together “yuca Brava”, corn, sweet potato, yam, “chonque”, “chontaduro”, banana, sugar cane, papaya, pineapple, coca and chili.

What type of clothing has worked in the community? - The Tucans´ costumes are characterized because the woman wears a flowery midriff skirt and a white blouse with indigenous belts and their respective collars; The man wears fisherman suits, white pants and colorful shirt with indigenous necklaces.

7. what have been the Colombian community dons to survive nowadays? The indigenous Tucanos are important for Colombia because they are one of the few communities that have maintained their cultures and traditions, such as their traditional dress, their dances and music. They are also important because they have maintained their translation language that is not Spanish, it is Tucano and that is not to leave their identity aside.
