Activities The following set of activities can be implemented in the order suggested or in other order, at your convenience. What matters is to complete all of them before the week ends.

Part 1. Weekly meta-reflection (25 points) A meta-reflection is an illation of ideas that threads prior reflections. In ICTE this exercise implies to review lessons learned by all participants from last week activities and to generate new ideas as educators who want to develop experiencebased knowledge.

. You can review prior postings in several ways, these are two very useful: 1. If you want to see what was posted per day, use Calendar hyperlinks to have access to interventions posted on specific dates. Third week/topic of the ICTE course went from October 5 to 23, 2009. 2. Use FILTERS to select authors (all, one by one). Read each of the postings from week/topic 3, copy and paste to your text processor those ideas that call your attention. At the end of the review process you’ll have a collection of gems that will help in your meta-reflection.

If you are not the first contributor, read what others have said, edit what can be necessary with the idea of adding value to this collective creation. Include new thoughts, thread old postings, bring new opportunities or challenges in regard to ICTEs studied.

Include icons, pictures, links, use colors or indentations, to promote good form. Use the TIPCS rubric to self-assess quality of this collaborative creation.

Part 2. Exploring an ICTE of your interest (20 points) 2.1 Choose an ICTE to explore on week/topic 4, individually or in group This week you have two alternative ICTEs to explore. See which one is of your interest.

Option 1: Explore an ICTE of your interest Review your exploration plan posted in  Exhibition blog, first week posting. If you have not decided what ICTEs to explore through the course, please do it right away; press to investigate ICTEs in each of the five categories and post or edit your plan in the Exhibition blog.

Part 3. Explore and master VOICETHREAD 3.1 Motivation and basic references Voice-based online interaction is a trend, and there is a growing effort to properly support this initiative. You can use Wimba Voice if you want students to participate in voice-based online forums within Blackboard; both the discussion seeds and interventions are oral; WSSU has campus license for this tool. In addition, you can use VoiceThread if you want your students to orally discuss digital learning objects such as pictures, documents, presentations, movies. You will have open access to create you first three voicethreads, and can subscribe for expanded services at a reasonable price. Use the following links to get acquainted with VOICETHREAD software. Explore the tool, create your account, and solve technical questions you may have. Main page http://voicethread.com/#home Help http://voicethread.com/help/faq/

3.2 Let’s know about each other (5 points) The purpose of this short activity is to warm up in the use of VoiceThread. Alvaro created a mosaic with all our pictures; it will serve as an excuse to expand our common ground, using voice or text to share about ourselves. To facilitate the process we will use only one Voicethread account and multiple identities (one for each of you). Use this link http://www.screencast.com/users/algalvis50/folders/Jing/media /7a8152db-cc46-4799-92b4-4cf0ecf5470c to understand the mechanics of changing the identity before posting. When ready to change the identity, use the "Let's know about each other" link to share about yourself in the roundtable around ICTE participant's mosaic. If the machine asks you to sign in use "[email protected]" with password "ICTE2009".

3.3 Technology integration and adult learning - slides and discussion (10 points)

ICTE – Week 4

Page 6

In this activity you are invited to comment on a Powerpoint presentation prepared by Alvaro Galvis. Each of the slides has a short oral reflection. The last two slides include discussion seeds. Once the PPT presentation was uploaded to Voicethread, Alvaro included explanations for each of the slides, in some cases via video and voice, in others just voice, or text. By pressing the icon with Alvaro's picture, at the bottom of the screen, you will be able to change the identify of the recorder. Please do so before entering your comments. The goal of this activity is to let you explore another way of using VoiceThread. Feel free to comment on any of the slides, and to contribute to the final discussion (there are four discussion seeds). Enjoy!

3.4 Comment on a video segment (5 points) This short activity makes use of a 10 seconds open access video segment that shows a flying butterfly next to a red flower. In order to participate you should select your identify and record your comment. I already included an opening commentary. Please add yours by stopping the video where you want to insert your message and by using the tool that you prefer (video, voice, text). Enjoy!

3.5 Gallery of voicethreads (15 points) Now it is your turn to explore and use Voicethread. You can create up to three free voice threads, use them at your own benefit. When done, use this discussion board to share one of your works. When ready, press the “Week 4: Gallery of Voicethreads” forum link and create a new discussion thread to share what you have created.

Part 4. Lessons learned from Week/Topic 4 activities (20 points) Use your word processor to prepare a reflection on Week/Topic 4 session activities. What did you learn from the experience? What was worth doing and what not? Why? What could you use in your our teaching? What needs to be expanded, reviewed, or reconsidered in the future?
