Biblical Finances Howard Dayton of Crown Financial Ministries writes in Your Money Counts: The Bible offers 500 verses on prayer, fewer than 500 verses on faith, but more than 2350 verses on money and possessions. 16 of Jesus’ 38 parables were concerned with how to handle money and possessions. Indeed, Jesus Christ said more about money than about almost any other subject. Why would this be? Well think about it...what do we spend most of our lives doing?... working to earn money to live on. In fact our attitude toward money is a good indicator of our spiritual condition. Jesus said: For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (NIV Luke 12:34) For the next several weeks we will be doing a study on Biblical Finances. During this time we will look at contentedness’ struggle with materialism, the bondage of debt and how to eliminate it, budgeting, giving, our work ethic, teaching the next generation, etc. We will have a couple of guest speakers and a motivational “tool” (Crown’s Money Map) will be passed out during one of the Sunday services.

Harvest Offering This year’s Harvest Offering (November 22nd) will be designated for FCC’s building fund. As you think about what you might give above-and-beyond your regular tithe, you could focus on (1) reducing the existing mortgage debt of around $24,000 so that we won’t need to roll that into a new mortgage or (2) making a dent in the land purchase price of around $200,000. Let’s make this year’s offering a heartfelt expression of Thanksgiving for all God has done. Let me share a congregational challenge for the next couple of years. For the past weeks I have been talking to Tammy and praying about what the Lord might have us personally give toward the building fund over the next 24 months. Would you join us for yourselves in this prayer and act of commitment to FCC’s future? What you give will be between you and God, but would you seek Him for a “faith” amount that will stretch you? Remember, we are asking God to help us give these additional donations beyond the tithe (of course if you don’t yet tithe that act of obedience is where you will want to begin). This would be in the realm of “generous giving.” If you will accept the challenge, then let’s begin this Harvest Offering and see what the Lord does for us over the next 24 months. Designate “building fund” on your check or the pew envelopes so the financial secretary can track that separately for you.
