CHAPTER I PRELIMINARY
A. BACKGROUND
Tenses are a form of verb in grammar that shows the time of occurrence of an action or event and the stage of completion. In learning English, we know there are 16 tenses that must be learned to perfect our English. Tenses are also a rule for how to speak in English so that people who hear our conversation can understand the intent and purpose of our conversation. Understanding tenses is very useful for determining what changes we can make to the form of the verb according to the time it occurs. Therefore, tenses are important because when you use tenses, the meaning obtained from the sentence you make will be a different meaning. Among the forms of tenses, here we will discuss the present continuous tense ... It is important for you to learn this tense because this tense is one of the tenses that are often used in a conversation. The Present Continuous Tense is a tense that refers to the action that is taking place now or when the conversation is taking place. So the action had already begun, and it had not ended when the conversation took place. This tense can also be used to describe an event that occurs briefly and / or that has occurred in a long time span. This tense is also known as Present Progressive Tense. Because this tense can be used to explain an action that might or could be done in the future. C. PURPOSE The objectives of writing this paper are: 1. To fulfill the assignment of grammar papers 2. To find out the present progressive understanding 3. So that readers can understand and apply tenses in daily conversations or formal activities that use English as their main language. 4. To find out the formula in the use of Present Continuous Tense in a sentence.
CHAPTER II DISCUSSION 1. PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE DEFINITION
Present continuous tense or present progressive tense is a form of verb that is used to express an action that is currently present or an event that will occur in the future. So the action had already begun, and it had not ended when the conversation took place. This tense can also be used to describe an event that occurs briefly and / or that has occurred in a long time span.This tense is also known as Present Progressive Tense. Because this tense can be used to explain an action that might or could be done in the future. In essence, Present Countinous Tense shows an event or condition that is happening now, often occurs, and can be carried out or continues into the future.
2. FORMULA PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE Form "to be" 1. Single: I am (first person), You are (second person), and then He / she / it is (third person) 2. Plural: We are (first person), You are (second person), and then They are (third person) The form of the verb "-ing" (V + ing) Example: Go + ing = going. Read + ing = reading. Cook + ing = cooking. Adverb of time is often used in Present Continuous Tense to show a plan: just, still, now, right now, at the moment, and tomorrow. Example: Abigail just left for London. Diandra still waiting for her scholarship announcement. Tomorrow, I’ll arrive in Jakarta at 8 AM. In addition, this tense can also be used to describe an activity that becomes a temporary routine, using information such as this week, theese days, this month, etc.

3. CONTINUOUS PRESENT USE State the activities that are taking place now (My father is talking to his friend in the living room). STORIES THAT CONTAIN PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE Today, Chiya is visiting her grandparents. She loves cooking with her grandmother. Her grandma usually teaches her how to cook delicious dishes. At this moment, Chiya is learning how to make tasty chicken soup. Chiya is helping to cut some issues, chilies, carrots, potatoes and vegetables. She is also writing her grandmother's recipe. An hour later, Chiya and grandparents have finished eating chicken soup. Now, Chiya is listening to her grandfather’s story. Chiya also loves listening to her grandpa’s story. They’re enjoying their time together.

1. Conclusion Present continuous is this tense to express a work, an act, or an event that occurs at a time (time) now or it can also be called an event that is happening or an event that occurs in the future. These tenses are often used in daily life . These tenses indicate activities that must be in progress and / or will occur in the future. These tenses can be used to express ongoing activities and can be used to make plans in the future. present is divided into 2 forms, namely: 1. verbal sentences (verb) which are sentences that use verbs, which indicate an activity that is being done or to be done. 2. nominal sentence (non verb) which is a sentence that does not use a verb, which usually uses nouns (noun), uses adjectives (adjective), and adverbs (adverb). 2. Suggestions Present continuous is a tense that is not so easy and not so difficult to learn, it's just that it requires a fairly deep understanding of the sentence at the time that is being done or in the future. Continuous present also requires many verbs, adjectives, nouns or explanations. Therefore, extensive knowledge is needed and can distinguish between words and sentences.
